What a stupid comparison, how could you compare such a hopeless situation to that of the Soviet Union?I wonder whether this writer knows anything about the Russian Federation. How could he engage in such stereotyping that we blacks have have been fighting against all this while?Has he been brain-washed by the Western press? Can he pinpoint a single nation in Africa that is in a better economic position than Russia? At least in Russia there is nothing like kayayei, lotto kiosk bedroom, house boys or Kufour gallons etc to show how low our dear nation has sunk.

Kofi Ata is completely getting out of order. You can question the time allocated but all parliaments allocate time and it happens even in the House of Commons where I think he has in mind as a role model.Generally a mover of a motion and its seconder have more time. All others are allocated time to meet with parliamentary scheduled time.
So to equate this debate as to how to manage parliamentary time with the Soviet style where he alleges that parliamentarians sang the praises of the General Secretary of the Communist Party, is hitting below the belt.Lets us come to our own arrangements and not equate our parliamentary procedures to foreign ones.
By the way the word tweaa can not be a good parliamentary word since it has taken a profane connotation if it originally wasn't.We need role models and good parliamentary practices and not free for all expressions passing as free speech. That will be unparliamentary.

Every parliamentarian must be given a personal secretary and a bodyguard. Parliamentarians must be effective. Parliamentarians must represent the views of their constituents and not their own will. They must provide feedback to their contituents, especially the chiefs and opinion leaders. They must not forget that they are there foremost as representatives of their constituents. They have the power to create a bill, amend a bill or alter the national budget. A bill or a budget can only be passed only if parliament and the President come to a consensus but parliamentarians have not exercised that power.

In legislative/parliament houses across Europe particularly in the UK House of Lords, your members of parliament do not use f**k you, bastard, etc because there is an expectation of decorum, gentleman-like or ladylike behavior expected from each member when in the chamber. It is interesting that you, a Ghanaian in U.K., with perhaps pea brain, should think barring "bush men" attitudes and behavior in Ghana's parliament is the moral equivalency to communism. Go tell your parliament in UK they are stifling freedoms of expression.

This is the problem with so called educated Ghanaians who are actually ignorant attempting to be erudite. Ata Kofi, the USSR did not have a Duma; don't confuse it with Russia. Russia is not USSR. Second, you could draw comparison of arbitrary decisions with legislatures all over the world, even your beloved British Parliament and U.S Congress without spewing the propaganda surrounding the Great USSR. Ever since the USSR left the scene, does the world look like is any more democratic? Illegal wars upon wars by so called democratic countries that some of you hold in such high esteem. It is sad some of you accept this charade without being honest about those who preach it. Ghana is not a democracy; neither U.K nor U.S.A. The Soviet Union was neither a democracy but they never pontificated they were one. Come back next time with a better piece.
