You have said it all. Now it is the responsibility of the Police Administration to take the necessary action to restore its image. It is actually a big subject and issue at hand. But with determination the administration can reduce the rate at which criminals find their way into the service.
This is a big challenge to the IGP who must check his senior staff who control the lower ranks. The difficult issue is the involvement of some senior personnel in these criminal schemes. They must equally be located and weeded out.

Take no prisoners, that is my attitude towards these police officers. You have a sorry thing called President who is not fit to rule people.

No where else but in Ghana. Thank you Mr Writer. Somebody needs to forward this writeup to the IGP.

The problem ? if you recruit low educated kids with a poor streetwise back ground you will get police officers who react as they were "trained" by the street. we have over 30% unemployed people in Ghana, start recruiting better educated soft spoken well trained people to give the police job its old fashioned dignity back.

GHANA POLICE SHOULD REDEEM THEIR IMAGE NOW OR NEVER.THE CANKER HAS GONE SO DEEP INTO THE INSTITUTIONS THAT URGENT MEASURES HAS TO BE TAKEN.
ONCE,I WAS STOPPED BY A POLICE INSPECTOR AT A BARRIER.AFTER INSPECTING ALL THE DOCUMENTS,HE WAS SATISFIED SO HE GAVE THEM BACK TO ME.HE THEN SAID"MASA,PE BIRIBI MAME FOR THE WEEK-END" MEANING,"MASTER,FIND SOMETHING FOR ME FOR THE WEEK END" IMMEDIATELY,ONE POLICE SEARGENT(A LADY) WHO WAS SITTING ON A BENCH NEARBY JOINED HIM BESIDE MY CAR.SHE SAID,"MENSO MERE BEGYE MEDE3"MEANING,"I AM ALSO COMING FOR MINE"
I POLITELY CRACKED SOME JOKES WITH THEM AND THEY ASKED ME TO GO.THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON ALL OVER GHANA ON DAILY BASIS.THE IGP CANNOT CONFESS THAT HE DOESN'T KNOW THIS IS GOING ON.
WHAT I LEARNT FROM ONE POLICE OFFICER IS THAT THEY ARE GIVEN TARGETS(CASH) TO BE SENT TO THE STATION WHENEVER THEY GO OUT.THAT SPECIFIC TARGETS ARE SENT WEEKLY FROM THE STATION OFFICER TO THE DISTRICT COMMAND,THEN TO THE REGIONAL COMMAND,THEN TO THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS.THIS GOES ON ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
THE REVENUE LOST THROUGH THESE BRIBES,COULD HAVE BEEN CHANNELED INTO DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IF THEY WERE REGULARIZED.THIS IS ONE OF THE WAYS THE GOVT GETS REVENUE FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE ADVANCED COUNTRIES.
ALL OUR INSTITUTIONS ARE EQUALLY GUILTY OF THIS OFFENCE.AND CONSIDERING THE GARGANTUAN REVENUE LOST THROUGH CORPORATE FRAUD,PERCENTAGE FROM CONTRACTS,JUDGEMENT DEBTS,CELEBRATIONS OF EVENTS LIKE KWAME NKRUMAS' BIRTHDAY,INDEPENDENCE & REPUBLIC DAYS ETC.
GHANA IS NEVER A POOR COUNTRY.OUR PROBLEM IS THE MANAGEMENT OF OUR OF OUR BOUNTIFUL NATURAL & HUMAN RESOURCES.IT TAKES ONE VISIONARY LEADER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS FEAT.I DISAGREE WITH THE PRESIDENT MANY TIMES HE CALLS ON GHANAIANS TO HELP HIM IN REDEEMING THE MESS HE HAS CAUSED.
MUCH AS THE PRESIDENT CANNOT DO IT ALONE,IF SOUND POLICIES,ETHICS & THE LAWS ARE STRICTLY ADHERED TO,GHANA WOULD FARE WELL.
VISIONARY LEADERS HAVE AFFECTED THEIR PEOPLE POSITIVELY & OR NEGATIVELY IN THE PAST & PRESENT;IT ALWAYS TAKE ONE PERSON.JESUS CHRIST,MOHAMMED,GHANDI,WISTON CHURCHILL,MARGARET THATCHER,HITLER,STALIN,PUTIN,KWAME NKRUMAH,YAA ASANTEWAA,KENEDDY,CLINTON,OBAMA,RAWLLINGS,KUFFOUR,ATTA MILLS,MANDELA,MUGABE,ASSAD,MUBARAK,HOUGHFET BOIHEY ETC
PRES.MAHAMA,WHEN THE HISTORY OF GHANA IS WRITTEN,HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE WRITTEN? "THE REPUBLIC OF CORRUPTION?" OR THE PRESIDENT,WHO TRANSFORMED A BANKRUPT ECONOMY TO A MIDDLE INCOME ECONOMY?
