  "The painful aspect to consider, though, is that these 275 MPs aren’t even performing their duties to warrant their being "bribed" to consider laws in favour of those bribing them. This crop of MPs is made up of much deadwood, and one wonders why anybody or institution will give any of them money to influence deliberations in the House".
  That says it all. Useless bunch. "Deadwood" is perfect.
  
  Anymore need to be said of this crop of MPs?

  Ghana is not socially and economically mature enough for the kind of multi-party democracy we currently practice. I believe a one-party state along the Chinese model would have helped to create a stronger Ghana until our society and economy matures very well before multi-party democracy is then introduced in place of the one-party state. My reasons are stated below as far as Parliament is concerned.
  
  When parliamentary elections are conducted every four years, almost all the MPs spend a fortune in order to get elected into office. Their expenditure on the average runs into millions of Ghana Cedis every four years. This expenditure takes the form of bribes in cash or in kind to the electorate, campaign materials and the cost of buying or hiring vehicles as well as fuelling these vehicles for the campaign and conveying the electorate to the voting centres to vote for these MPs.
  
  Political entrepreneurs engage in all these expenditures with the believe that as soon as they win, they will be able to recoup these sums of money at a profit and also to build a war chest for the next parliamentary elections in the next four years. Their calculations are as follows: (1) per the 1992 Constitution, majority of Ministers must be appointed from Parliament and hence winning a Parliamentary election makes one's chances of becoming a Minister very very bright to the extent of a certainty in some cases; (2) when one gets to be appointed as a minister, then one can get the opportunity to sign contracts on behalf of government and to take kick backs from the overly inflated sums awarded for the execution of the contracts, and (3) even if one doesn't get to become a minister to be able to recoup one's investment from the award of government contracts, then one will be in a position to recoup these investments from the MPs' common fund or any other source like bribes paid to MPs for the furtherance of certain people's agendas like the approval of bills, approval of the sale of government companies like the sale of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone, approval of appointments to certain offices etc.
  
  Now, no honest MP can say that he does not know that this is how things are run at Ghana's Parliament. Nobody can tell this better than Alban Bagbin who has been in Ghana's Parliament since 1993.
  
  This state of affairs makes Ghana very very susceptible to nefarious foreign interests in our nation especially since very few of our MPs have any sense of nationalism. The sale of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone by means of paying bribes to MPs to approve the deal is a case in point.

  Doctor, thanks for referring them as deadwood and apart from that they are axis of corruption as well .They're indeed waste pipes on the national coffers. What annoys me most is the noise by the so called minority leader as if nothing of that ever happened let alone the 5000 dollars each received during previous administration as kick back.They all left their career fields and entered into parliament and only God knows .Time will tell. Doctor, thanks
