Akuffo Addo's hold on the NPP can be partly explained by the ingrained Ghanaian habit of respecting our elders and showing them unqualified deference. Unfortunately this attitude can sometimes hinder progress and change for the better. It means that younger more effective and more competent potential leaders may be left out in the cold while ineffective ones cling to leadership simply because of seniority
