  Daniel, any time I listen to and watch Ghanaian radio and television news on my laptop, the lawlessness in Ghana is unbelievable. The real problem is that in Ghana the judiciary and the justice systems work for only the rich and powerful. The masses have lost faith in the leadership and institutions so they have resorted to their own understanding of justice.
  
  Until the leadership (people in positions of trust) and institutions of law enforcement begin to enforce laws, regulations and rules to the letter in Ghana and the citizens learn to comply with the same, lawlessness and mob justice will get worse and become the norm rather than the exception. Last night, I saw on the the 8.00pm Joy News how water bodies have been destroyed and polluted. It made me wonder if Ghanaians actually hate the nation state, Ghana.
  
  Daniel, I am not sure whether you are a Law student or Lecturer. If it's the latter, then I believe you may also be a Lawyer and a member of Ghana Bar Association. If my assumptions are correct, then you can play a role in bringing some sanity into the justice system. The Ghana Bar Association can get its act together and ensure that its members do not unnecessarily delay cases at courts because justice delayed is justice denied. I am aware sometimes the delays are from the prosecuting authorities but again GBA can put pressure on the Attorney General's Department to ensure speedy proceedings in courts by not delaying prosecution.

  Mr. Korang, you did an excellent writing from an academic perspective. However, reality differs from the black letter law. Mob justice is an indication or vote of no confidence by the people towards our judicial system. Judicial systems advocate for due process under the law. Is is due process under the law when policemen demand bribes from complainants before approaching a crime scene to make arrests? Then comes the trial period where cases are adjourned many times, which results to unnecessary inconvenience to the complainants. I was in Ghana trying to follow the outcome of a case before the Akropong- Akuapem Magistrate court, the case was adjourned six consecutive times. My vacation days were over, and departed in frustration. How do we blame the masses for taking care of their problems in their old fashion way? It brings back in memory the old fashion way of towns mobilizing their men as community watch to deal with arm robbers. Until the people in authority perform their duties as expected by the masses, people shall result to doing things the old fashion way.

  Instant justice is the last resort when the general public feel neglected by the "powers that be." Does it make sense to arrest an armed robber, hand him over to the police and then see the robber walking the street the next day? Also, when people do not trust the judiciary, mob or instant justice becomes the order of the day because they do not want to see criminals having a field day or sympathy from the judiciary.
  
  Stop making fruitless argument and support mob or instant justice because no one will love to see an armed robber coming back to terrorize him/her.
