Even the smallest and newest nations on earth are proud to exibit their national colours in any international sporting event anywhere in the world except Ghana whose flag is not seen as worthy of a display on the Black Stars jersey. From now on, nefarious and diabolical players in the service of our WC2014 opponents will try to injure our players. They will try again to hurt Essien , Muntari, Warris and the others. Appiah should caution the troops to take it easy in club matches and look out for saboteurs.

One thing that I have noticed when statistics are reported in team sports like, soccer and basketball is that the analysts always place so much importance on who scores most. - who has scored the most goals or points.
Even though that aspect of statistics is important, it is the most disingenious and unfair statistics about the performance of the players.
Placing so much importance and emphasis and judging by who scores most, breeds selfishness among players and portrays a wrong impression about the performance of the rest of the players.
HOW ABOUT NUMBER OF ASSISTS PER PLAYER?
I personally believe the number of assists must be equally weighted just as the number of goals. I guess everyone appreciate why assist per game (APG) is a key metric.
If I were a soccer player and notice I contribute to most of the goals scored in my team but I don't get mentioned and given the same recognition as those I 'supply' the balls to score the goals, then I better be selfish and attempt to score goals instead of passing the balls to other players to score and take all the credit and potentially win big contracts.

Secondly, when we consider goals score per game, we never mentioned minutes played by those scorers.
If someone plays under 20 minutes per game and scores 2 goals in a season, that individual might be more efficient than a player that plays 80-90 minutes per game and scores only 4 goals per season.
So in my opinion, players performance should always assessed along the lines of
" percentage of GOALS SCORED PER MINUTES PLAYED"
(GOALS SCORE/MINUTES X 100 )
I mean whatever formula the mathematicians think make sense, but definitely, the time played must be factored in.
In the same vein ASSISTS PER MINUTES PLAYED should always be a top priority of sports analysts, anytime goals scored is mentioned.
Apart from goals scored and assists, we should also emphasize on statistics for all other aspects of the game each reported as a PERCENTAGE in terms of playing time.
Time played must always be factored in for any statistics for the players.
Bottom line, glamorizing goals scored per player is just a biased piece of information and tells just a little bit of the story on the ground.
Unfortunately, we have been biasedly wired to just use that piece of information as the most importance yardstick for player performance and in most contracts

I hope most of the readers will appreciate that.
If Akwasi plays 90 minutes for his team all the time but scored only 4 goals the whole year, I am not sure how we compare another player from his team or another team for that matter who always comes off the bench, play like 5 minutes most of the time and has a total of 3 goals.
So, yes good to know the number of goals scored by the players as shown but not a lot can be deduced from it. its just an FYI
I hope I am making sense.
Why am I saying this? I am saying this because it will be wrong for any reader to think that, the players who have scored more goals, just by the statistics presented, should be on the Brazil squad.
There are a lot more factors to be considered:
Assists received,minutes played, role played etc.
GOALS SCORED IS JUST AN FYI
DON'T MAKE ANY DEDUCTION FROM IT.

There's another award, "goal king" or whatever you may call it. That's for the number of goals scored You could be goal king and not be the Most Valuable Player of the league.
Unless the number of goals is relatively high, i think 18-year old is right to make the claim she did that players cannot be picked for BS squad based on just the number of goals each player scored without factoring in other statistical data.

As certain players are just role players and may only play in certain games and for certain match-ups as the coach deam fit (tactical and strategic reasons) or might be injured for most part of the season and therefore have the chance to play just a few games.
Additionally, the position played by a player may decide his chances for scoring goals.
For example, Ghana expects Asamoah Gyan to score more goals than say another player who is designated defender.

So if a player, a striker for that matter, scores 6 goals in 10 games, I presume a lot of people will consider him a better player in terms of scorability than another striker who scores 10 goals in 50 games in the same league.
So again, providing readers who do not have any visibility or knowledge of the matches played or the european league for that matter and without any other statistics in addition to the number of goals scored is just an FYI and nothing else. "Good to know"

Its insufficient for selecting a player to a squad unless the the number of goals is quite a lot.

Its a fallacy to say "kofi scored 6 goals this season and haruna scored 3 goals, so kofi is a better scorer, and therefore must be picked for the Brazil squad instead of haruna without knowing any other facts I just mentioned. Thats all 18-years is trying to say. And that's just her opinion. You may agree or disagree, but you cannot insult her.
If this still does not make sense to you then i don't know what else to tell you.
