Most of the budgetary information is coming from the sports ministry and not the GFA, at least from what the government is suggesting. The funds released by the government go through the sports ministry first, and then the sports ministry releases the funds to the GFA. The question most people have is why the government feels the need to give the funds to the sports ministry, and not the GFA? Furthermore, why does the US$9.6 million not have any strings attached?
The black stars, through the GFA, will be "rewarded" with at least US$10 million for just showing up in Brazil, so why is the government not extending the US$9.6 million as a loan? Nii, this is the problem most of us have with what is going on with the budget.
Even if the US$9.6 million can be well utilized to provide sustained clean drinking water for a small town, it would be worth more than a month-long ecstasy, even to the finals. This is coming from someone who loves and lives football.
By the way, isn't the GFA supposed to be an independent body with independent administration completely separate and unaccountable to the government? If this debate can end the shadiness in football and other administrations in Ghana, trust me Nii, it will be worth every nuisance and headache it will cause the GFA and the sports ministry. Bear in mind that Asamoah Gyan refuted asking for any appearance fees as reported by the sports ministry.
