  No African Leader...listen to these people.They are trying to put a roof on a house before they even build a foundation.Cross border challenges are even going to get worse when population in ECOWAS countries is projected to grow to over 700 hundred million people in 25 years.ECOWAS nations have before them a one sided EPA offer from the EU that we cant even decide what to do with, and we are talking about a new currency for West Africa? It is funny our lack of visionary leaders in all of Africa.
  
  Members of the ECOWAS Parliament ended its two-day dialogue on cross border challenges and opportunities for trade and finance, with a resolution that ECOWAS should pursue more vigorously the implementation of the single currency.
  
  A communiqué issued by Mr. Ike Ekweremadu, Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament at the weekend said members also resolved that ECOWAS should take firm measures to address the numerous barriers to cross-border investment, particularly corruption.
  
  The dialogue which was organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies, National Assembly in collaboration with the African Capacity Building Foundation and ECOWAS Parliament brought together stakeholders to discuss ways of deepening intra-regional trade relations among ECOWAS countries.
  
  Participants decided that ECOWAS should involve more stakeholders in its regional integration process, particularly civil society organisations, evolve strategies to tackle the non-implementation of integration and particularly on intra-community trade and finance.
  
  They called for the establishment of protocol of export products standard in order to improve access to global markets, engage more with innovative development finance initiatives to access low cost funds for development.
  
  After careful observation of various issues discussed, members came to a conclusion that the enhancement of exports ECOWAS could significantly earn more revenue to promote infrastructure.
  
  Members identified the need for the deepening of industrialisation efforts in the Region, promoting regional trade competitiveness through diversified product regimes rather than dominance of common primary products, strengthen the regulatory institutions to monitor product quality and enforce laid down standards.
  
  Mr. Ekweremadu expressed the appreciation of participants to President John Dramani Mahama for hosting the event and his commitment to the development of the regional trade and investment.

  there is no leader in Africa, as a matter of fact there has never been one and only God knows if there will ever be a leader in Africa. we have had murders yes, we have had looters (state robbers) and we still have them alright, but a real leader? hmmm. it time to throw in the towel and beg the white man to come back quickly and save mother Africa.

  When the Islamist rebels from Northern Mali divided the country into two, it was the French who came down with troops to drive them out while the Malian soldiers, who are well versed into coups, watch with scary eyes. Also, the Ecowas/African Union, stood by as if those organizations do not exist.
  
  This is a clear testament that the black man is not capable of managing his own affairs. Talk of a leader in Africa and who is that leader? If we (Ghana) joins that useless ecowas and open our borders, trust me, we will bite our tongue and chew it as beef because the problems that will descend on us will be insurmountable. We should resist any attempt to that "open borders under ecowas treaty".
  
  Right now, just imagine the spate of armed robbery going on in Ghana with the government unable to arrest the situation. Open borders is an invitation to crooks outside Ghana to enter and hold us at ransom. Mark my words.
