The one-party state thing and the President for life thing Okoampa-Ahoofe is referring to was something Ghanaians agreed to in a bid to curb all the excesses of the multi-party democracy we started with but which was seriously misunderstood and abused by certain traitors who teamed up with the West to cause mayhem under the guise of doing opposition party politics. In response to these gross abuses which stemmed from massive ignorance and foreign machinations using unpatriotic Ghanaians as their agents, our Parliament and the masses at the time opted for the one-party idea which was very popular at the time as the easiest way of getting consensus for rapid national development.

Okoampa-Ahoofe and his ilk should go and read the Hansard of the early and mid-1960s as well as the Daily Graphic publications of that period in order to be educated instead of relying on Western sponsored propaganda against Kwame Nkrumah. There is no denying the fact that Nkrumah did not singlehandedly turn Ghana into a one-party state. It was Ghanaians who opted for that political arrangement to build quick and ready consensus to catapult us into first-world status as fast as lightening. The West knew that this was going to work and their worst fear was that it may be replicated in other African countries since Nkrumah's Ghana was the country to watch and copy from throughout Africa. Africa has over 60 percent of the world's natural resources so if Africa freed itself from western exploitation, then the days of glory in the West were surely going to come to an end. Note that China does not have a fraction of Africa's natural resources yet the industrial rise of China has greatly wreaked havoc on many western economies. Africa's industrial rise is tantamount to economic death for the West. I entreat Okoampa-Ahoofe to read the CIA declassified files on the true reasons why the CIA of America and MI 6 of Britain teamed up with local traitors to overthrow Kwame Nkrumah and I bet my bottom cedis that Okoampa-Ahoofe will laugh at his own folly after he has read and educated himself on such matters. It is a shame that Okoampa-Ahoofe prides himself with a PhD and is eager to boast about the fact that he has successfully defended his PhD thesis yet he displays such crash ignorance on the geopolitics of Africa.

Okoampa-Ahoofe, can you deny that the head of state in Britain stays on the throne for life and is not elected up to date but the British would never agree to team up with any foreign agency to overthrow their crown? The British crown has been a benevolent dictatorship and that dictatorial crown unified the British to conquer one-third of the world under their feet at a certain point in time. Today, that crown has lost much of the dictatorial powers it once had but the story of that crown tells a tale of the benefits of benevolent dictatorship in galvanizing a people to achieve great heights. Secondly, the Chinese are currently taking the world by storm and guess the political arrangement that has galvanized and focused their energies to make this possible? It is a benevolent dictatorship under a one-party state. In fact, the first Chinese leader, Mao Zedong, was not someone who had successfully defendant a PhD thesis the way Okoampa-Ahoofe would have liked to see yet he was President for life and hence he stayed on for 27 good years and even died on the post but by the time of his death, he had laid the solid foundation that has given the Chinese the competitive edge today to compete and win hands down on the global stage. The list of countries that have used such strategies to advance socially and economically before they opened up their political space is endless. Kwame Nkrumah was one African leader who had a clear understanding of all these issues and he was sure where he wanted Ghana to be by 1970, by 1980, by 1990, by 2000 and beyond. The British and Americans hated him for dreaming such ambitious dreams and acting boldly to realize these dreams and hence they worked day and night to make sure that his dreams were thwarted.

Well, Nkrumah is dead and gone but we are the ultimate losers and instead of weeping over our great loss, we have people like Okoampa-Ahoofe who have been fed on so much anti-Nkrumah propaganda to continue to blame Nkrumah ignorantly. Consider this, Okoampa-Ahoofe: After Nkrumah's overthrow, has the West ever influenced any of the rest of the coups in Ghana? The answer is an absolute no because none of these governments has posed a threat to the western agenda (i.e. the colonial and current neo-colonial agenda) of keeping us as a natural resource base for their factories and a market for their manufactured goods. Therefore, the 1966 coup was not about restoring political freedom for Ghanaians else the West would have equally been interested in uprooting JJ Rawlings when he took away our political rights for over a decade. Note that the West was ok with JJ Rawlings because he did not threaten the neocolonial structure of our economy for all those years. In fact, he deepened this neocolonial structure by the time of his exit and Kufour, Mills and lately Mahama have deepened it and continue to deepen it by the day.

It is therefore disheartening to read Okoampa-Ahoofe's display of gross ignorance or hypocrisy on this subject when he seems to be saying by implication that the 1966 coup was justified since Nkrumah was our problem simply because he took a hardline position to free us from economic domination by the West. Okoampa-Ahoofe came close to this realization when he stated in the last-but-two paragraph of his write-up as follows: “Of course, Mr. Padmore's time was remarkably different in terms of race relations and scholastic opportunities …” If charity begins at home, then why would the West seek to keep Africans down as second class citizens in the West yet they will suddenly love Africans on the continent so much that they will plan and sponsor the 1966 coup and spare no effort to uproot Kwame Nkrumah in order to secure freedom and so-called democracy for Ghanaians? Okoampa-Ahoofe should ponder over these questions and come again!!!

This paranoid teacher has no friends and his own family has rejected him in New York City. Ahoofe is practically unknown in his field(he received his doctorate in African Studies from Temple University)as he has not produced anything worth publishing - except some information from newspaper clippings that has allowed him to stay at that Community College. No university will accept him since his scholarship is far below standards. For this,he blames his professors at Temple.

Because of his deranged mind, Ahoofe was kicked out of NPP-USA and Danquah Institute.He then formed his own Sintim Public Policy Center in his kitchen(Nobody hears about it anymore).

Ahoofe,who has not done anything good for Ghana since he left our shores 30years ago(he is stuck at the bottom of America's tertiary institutions)is without a doubt,suffering from an inferiority complex - due to his inability to achieve anything worthy of recognition. The paranoia that he and a few other characters of his ilk, have inflicted on themselves, is derived from the foolhardiness of swimming against the tide of common-sense - that is, the common recognition that in the affairs of world history, Kwame Nkrumah stands out as the tallest of Black African heroes. No other Blackman can equal his achievements.

It is needless to waste much time on this 'queer' writer but I am nevertheless appalled that as a presumed member of the Dept of English, albeit in a largely unknown small-time community College somewhere in the backwaters of New York, his flighty, woozy and infantile effort to impress with needless and superfluous verbose has not helped him carry his reactionary viewpoints across to the public for whom he purportedly writes.

In other words, you are also a fanatic of J B Danquah. What I am not certain when it comes to Nkrumah, is whether you are a cynic, indifferent or you simply hate him?

There is no doubt that Nkrumah had his faults as all humans, especially how he treated his political opponents, the declaration of one party state and life President. However, you cannot say that Kwame Nkrumah was not visionary. In fact, it is folly to say so. The free education, Akosombo Dam, the industrialisation programme, the plan to built the Bui Dam harness iron ore in Ghana, the gold smelter factory, food and cocoa silos, plans to build aluminium smelter, etc were all some of his development agenda to make Ghana self-sufficient and add value to her natural resources, instead of exporter of raw materials. If these were not visionary, what were they? Do you also know that the oil find in Ghana relied on exploratory work done by Soviet Geologists under the Nkrumah's time? What about the building of an oil refinery when Ghana was not an oil producer?

Do you call NLC and Busia visionary when on the advice of the west they abandoned all the projects Nkrumah was undertaking or had planned after his overthrow?

It's ok to criticise what Nkrumah did wrong but let's give credit where credit is due. Had governments in Ghana delivered a tenth of Nkrumah's visionary idea after his overthrow, Ghana would be in a better place than today.

I can understand your cynicism or indifference towards Nkrumah for how he treated your family members, including J B Danquah. However, there is no justification for your hatred towards Nkrumah.

Peoples of Western democracies do not raise their children alike, nations do not govern the same way even when they mostly adhere to accepted Western democratic principles. The intellectuals from the Eastern and Ashanti regions at the time knew no better because they could only believe in tested and proven European practices never leaving room for personal growth and intellectual curiosity. That was the basis for a Danquah-Busia ideology that formed the difficulty with which the UP/UGCC of the Nkrumah era not to understand that knowing how tribal loyalties work in Ghana a multiparty system could not be the best start for a newly freed nation.
Nkrumah would have been a fool to have accepted a multiparty system in good faith that allows Danquah-Busia faction to use political party activities to continue their subversion activities in Ghana. Governance is by any measure above learning of the English language and or creative writing it is better left for people with vision, ideas and ideals something the Busia and Danquah ideologues would never have or anticipate unless it came from European practices.

"And here, it is significantly instructive to observe that none of the myriad putsches and coup detats have been staged by any other than bona fide members of the Ghanaian military. Granted, some rascal civilians are known to have staunchly backed regressivley Darwinian means of political access, including a world-renowned University-educated former prime minister. Interestingly, in July 1956, when President Nkrumah's Convention People's Party (CPP) won a landslide victory, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia rode herd on a delegation to the British office in London, to petition the British Crown, and Ghana's extant colonial overlord, to desist from granting the already-scheduled return of Ghana to self-governance. Fortunately, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia and his right-wing bourgeois reactionaries did not succeed. He would, however, succeed ten years later in backing the military junta that unseated the Nkrumah administration and facilitated the precipitous devolution of Ghanaian national destiny.

Indeed, it is interesting to observe that Ghana's major and, to-date, only international airport is named for General E.K. Kotoka, the very Darwinian outlaw who spearheaded the grossly unimaginative overthrow of the constitutionally elected government of the CPP. For many detractors and outright enemies of Nkrumah, Kotoka's greatest—if also sole—achievement was simply getting rid of an elected dictator. It has often been said, largely by Western academics, that Nkrumah was a heartless and fatuous dictator; these days, one hears Mr. Jerry John Rawlings, the career soldier who ran Ghana for twenty harrowing incontrovertibly bloody years, described as a "benign dictator." It is significant to observe that Mr. Rawlings, whose agnatic parentage is purported to be Scottish, presided over the dastardly kidnapping and summary execution of three Ghanaian supreme court judges, all of whom belonged to a single ethnic nationality.

When one agrees with the Western ideological mythology that Nkrumah was a raw-boned dictator bereft of vision, then it begins to make sense that Kotoka's statue should continue to command the august facade of Accra International Airport, thus perpetually humiliating those of us who incurably believe in democratic governance. Needless to say, the 1966 Kotoka-led coup initiated the barbaric, neo-colonial military dynasty that Ghanaian continue to suffer….

That Ghana's post-colonial political dilemma transcends military dictatorship cannot be honestly gainsaid. In fact, many of the most vociferous civilian opposition party leaders, some of whom are currently sitting in parliament, representing misguided and hoodwinked constituents, are known to have collaborated with Kotoka's so-called National Liberation Council to unseat President Nkrumah. It is also significant to observe that these largely superannuated rascals and executive national, fiduciary muggers continue to dominate whatever passes by the name of "the legitimate opposition." This state of affairs, coupled with a largely under-educated and under-informed electorate, has made it almost impossible to rectify the prevailing socioeconomic chaos ravaging the country.”

You claim to be a Dr. yourself and think Dr. Nkrumah is less of an intellectual than you are? Your name tells us why you are bitter. In a young independent nation trying to develop, tribalism and segregation could least be tolerated the Nkrumah being the genius that he is stood his grounds and banned the Ashanti Flag and others alike. We had no time to tolerate distractions if we were to develop. Your ancestors think Ghana is theirs well its not so tell them to feed you with a better story.
