I WILL DIE FOR YOU, PRECIOUS GHANA!?!?
These days nobody is willing to die for Ghana - at least not for free. Anybody who wants to die for Ghana will ask to be paid for it first! All the politicians going around campaigning for posts as if their very lives depended on it are doing it because of the personal benefits that will accrue to them from political office. Don't believe anything else. Many Ghanaians, including highly qualified professionals, have left the country for greener pastures abroad because they are not willing to stay on and die for Ghana. Even our footballers who should die a little for the glory of the country on the football pitch are demanding more money for their "services" to mother Ghana.
How can our country be great when no one is willing to die for her?

"...LAND OF RICH RESOURCES: During the Acheampong's regime, when this song was written, Ghana had not discovered oil. But we were still endowed with other rich resources which were enough to help her achieve a middle income status. It is largely believed that Ghana has all it takes for her to be as developed as every other country.? Ghana has rich deposits of gold, diamond, manganese and many more including her latest discovery of oil.? We have other resources like timber and other agricultural products and fisheries..."
We have been reciting this illusive "natural resources" mantra for ages, and may continue to do so for many more years unless we focus on what really matters: knowledge, technology, and industrialization.
After all, Japan has no natural resources, yet it is one of the richest countries on the planet.
They are world leaders in the building of good cars, bullet trains, complex robots, and advanced supercomputers. Yes, they do have knowledge, technology, and a very educated workforce for industrialization.
Natural resources are only beneficial if you know these three things: how to locate the resources, how to extract them, and how to process them into useful products.
Currently, Ghana imports even toothpicks.
SOLUTION:
Ghana needs to push science and technology education with all its wealth and might in order to wage an industrialization revolution.

You're right that it is not necessarily the natural resources that we have under our soil that will make us develop. We need "knowledge, technology, and industrialization" with which to develop whatever we have. The Japanese example is very pertinent. They used their knowledge, rather than abundant natural resources, to develop.
But the problem is Africa wide. Where will Nigeria be today if they had not had oil? Even then they are still importing finished oil products. Angola's rapid development is due to abundant oil. Without that, they are nothing. They would not be able to use their raw brain power to develop. Even then, the oil technology in Angola is controlled from outside, not by Angolans.
We really need to push science and technology and give less attention to literature and sociology...

The author has touched on a very crucial deficit in our current national image. The days of "Ghana my happy home" may be gone, but the ideal must not be lost on us. However, it is exactly during such times that heroic activity, capable of ensuring the transformation to a better state of affairs, is most highly rewarded. Long live the author! Long live Ghana!

Tell me which shool was built at his time which is better than Achimota and Adisadel which were built by the whiteman. What did he do with the money he was handed by the whiteman.

FYI, the Korean War enden in July 1953 and Ghana got its independence in 1957. The comparison that is often made is that in 1954 or so, Ghana's per capita income was higher than that of South Korea. But then Korea had fought a way and we didn't fight one. South Korea had a lot of economic help from USA which stationed troops there. Ghana didn't have the same amount of help from the US or any other country. South Korea was physically near developed countries (Japan in particular with which it shared many cultural elements). Yes, Ghana could have done far better than we did but the South Korean conditions were a bit more favourable than ours. But I agree with you that we need to invest in more education and infrastructure.

Stephen, your article showed you have valuable insight, and have looked deeply into the ills that presently thwart success for all nations, but more so for the younger ones that have been brutally molested by their "parent nation's" Empire.
Ravished, plundered and robbed of their wealth for so long in their young lives that this all seems normal and simply the way of the world.
Yes it has and is increasingly the case, however it need not be so, for men and women using their own natural talents can reverse this trend with insight and understanding help others around them wake up to reality and once more add and give back the meaning to your once proud anthem rather than accepting these deplorable conditions and defeat.
Inspire this energy in others and help your nation to be proud once more.
Stephan it is only my opinion, but seems the better of two options to follow this advice so that even if progress remains painfully slow you can know you are going in the right direction,

The legal system in Ghana is there to protect the rich and famous. The judge who sentenced a mobile phone thief to 45 years in prison should be ashamed of himself. Woyome of course will see "real" justice one day.
