This will never happend during Kwame Nkrumah Regime. Yes only the so-called Cocain Dealers can afford that.
You have said the Trueth, now what can the people do?
It is a Shame

The one thing government can immediately do is to cut the 17.5% sales tax on (VAT) on house purchases to say 10%. By how much will that reduce mortgage rates in your example? But the more important question is can government truly single out VAT on house purchases and reduce that while leaving those on other items high?
The other two items will be interference in free market forces. Government cannot now impose price limits on building materials. Government cannot also re-value the cedi. These two items will readjust thmeselves in step with changes in economic performance. An improvement in that will ease pressures elsewhere too. But doing that is the big business of government we are all concerned with, not just those interested in the housing market.
But Atsu, can government interfere in the rates charged by the banks on mortgages?
In the end, what are your own specific suggestions to government under these circumstances to ameliorate the situation? As it is now, I think it is only the housing companies, the brokerage and management companies, and the banks who are the greatest beneficiacies of the system. Even you, Peter Atsu, must be laughing all the way to the bank, alo?
I am surprised home ownership is Norway is a whopping 77%! I thought that country was like the rest of Scandinavia where most people live in rented flats until the day the die and the building company rents it out to the next family in the queue.
But, thanks, Atsu, for keeping us to date with the developments in the housing market in Ghana. Your other articles on the subject have been very informative too. A far better read than the useless political commentaries that deluge this site.
