Why do these trokosi Asante haters always lie about everything? Afrifa was a leader less than a year. Acheampong ruled for about five years and Kuffour ruled for eight years. Compare the fourteen years rule of the Asantes to trokosi Rawlings twenty years rule and the fourteen years Asante rule was thousand times better than murderer Rawlings rule.
This dumbass Tamakloe should just tell us 20 of the so called 400 industries Busiah destroyed. What is wrong with these foolish Nkrumah zealots they think they should always lie to prop up that dictator?
How many industries did we have in 1970 for Busiah to destroy 400 of them? Why is this dumbass Trokosi moron Tamakloe not talking about murderer Rawlings who gave Ghanaian factories and industries free of charge to his trokosi people and more than 90 percent of all government scholarships to Canada and USA between 1982 -2001 went to Ewes?
Can these Trokosis who hated Nkrumah and actually led the 1966 coup stop their foolishness trying to rewrite history?

" These Akans", as if your useless nursing home bound ass you are struggling heaven and earth to avoid will come to a screeching halt if you nail the nail right on the head and say it as it is. The damn word is Asantes, the porcupines and animal dung eaters as FrancisYaw Kwarteng would put it. Feel free to bring your asininity to the fore, for the porcupine warriors care the least about your empty threats, campaigns and rallies to have them ostracized if not totally annihilated, from the land of their birth. The Asante empire will collapse with Ghana if that is your wish. And Togoland, where your umbilical cord is tied up to, will not survive either. Asante is Ghana and Ghana is Asante. No evil forces of darkness, not even the combine forces of the Atinga-Trokosi alliance( courtesy Professor Sir Ahoofe) can undo what, by His grace and devine providence, the omnipotent God, has vested in the people of Kookoase to lead Ghana to the promise land. Kuffour and Acheampong dispensations in political history is a clear attestation to what the indomitable porcupines of the SubSaharan Afrika are capable of doing. Any equation that factors out the porcupines in our quest to build a formidable Ghana is surely(100%) bound to fail. If the center cannot hold the centripetal forces that bind us together as one people of former Gold Coast( you know what I mean) anarchy would be the likely by-product. Get this straight to your atheistic skull. You smelly Trokosi Swine!

I am not Ashanti and I have not heard the saying "Asante or NPP person at the top and all would well" statement before because I think that could not even be a true statement since the Ashantis were the chief opposition group when Acheampong was in power. In any case, being from a CPP background myself, though can be objective, I can tell you that many of the industries/enterprises set up by Nkrumah were failing prior to Nkrumah's overthrow. Unfortunately, government enterprises are never run efficiently so are bound to fail or operate at a loss. Compare the electric and water companies operated by government to the privatized telecom sector and understand what I am talking about. China lost the battle of government run enterprises and only saw the daylight when it adopted capitalism. In any case Ghana has been in the hands of socialists/Nkrumaist (Nkrumah, Acheampong, Limann, Rawlings, Mills, & Mahama) for over 42 years and counting, so what system do you think has done damage to Ghana? Why didn't any of the folks mentioned above who came after Nkrumah not revamp the industries if they thought they were viable? At least Busia was bold to downsize government and also throw out the undocumented aliens -- I wish Mahama had half the balls to do some of that considering the sky rocketing salary expense it has and the country being over run by immigrants. I wont comment on the tribal bullcrap because that is all it is BULLCRAP!

You would do me a world of good by publishing the names of those 90% (who were Ewes) and the remaining 10% non-Ewes. It borders on madness for one to rush to press with wild claims purposely to vilify an ethnic group.
And for your information, Ewes never hated Nkrumah as did your fathers. I don't know how old you were or whether you were even in this world when Nkrumah was overthrown. Let it be known to you today that it was your fathers and uncles who hated Nkrumah and master-minded his overthrow through your uncle Afrifa who used a credulous Kotoka as a tool to achieve their dastardly aims. That is the blunt truth and nothing but the truth.
Let it sink into your skull today that nobody is trying to rewrite history here. It is you the infamous Cardinal who is guilty of trying to rewrite history.

My grandmother used to say that "When you lie, your lies should at least bear some semblance to facts." Hello Kojo T,
Excellent piece.
Your piece raises many important implicit questions in connection with the bad state of Ghana's political economy.
The piece also identifies where we have gone wrong as a people and implicitly identifies the way forward.
In fact, if my reading of it is correct I can certainly say there is nothing "tribal" about the pressing issues you address.
Let us come together as a people, retrace our steps, and do for ourselves what others have relatively successfully done for themselves.
I think you have done a good job on the whole trying to perform a post-mortem operation on a dead organism, Ghana.
We need a rethink as a people. Good job. Keep it up!

Fragrance display of abject stupidity of the cassava grating Togolese Red Monkeys are at its apogee in recent times on this forum. Thanks to that friend of mine, the paternal native of Kookoase-Aduman and a Trokosi wannabe, Yaw Kwarteng, for openning the flood gets for some jaded low lives to disrespectfully denigrate the very hands that once fed their Washmen fathers and yokogari selling mothers in their squatting ghettos, slums and shanty towns in the Great Kookoaseland. How on earth can one dabble and wallow in such a mudslinging slurs of mediocrity if you are not a hate filled Trokosi miserable soul. Down sucker let me educate you on the "Alien Conpliance Act" of yesteryears which compel foreigners Without PROPER DOCUMENTATION to leave the country within a gracing period of three month in 1969. It became necessary at that time since the population of Ghana as at independence in 1957 shot up to 6 million from 3 million in 1960 when Ghana became a republic. This was due to the wanton generosity of the Western Showboy, the Father Chrismas of a prime minister at that time, with foreigners( including Togolese Trokosis) forming a little over 20% of the entire population. This trend of our demographics became very alarming as the time of the overthrown of the life president of the then one party State who wanted a continental African Unity but succeeded in separating Asante Region from some parts of Brong, Central and some part of western Regions. He could not even unite Ghanaand could he have achieved the unity of Boko Haram North Africa with the rest of us in the sub Sahara region. So in a nut shell, Busia inherited a broke nation with foreigners haven dominated in the production and manufacturing sectors. Nigerians, Lebanese and Syrians totally commandeered the entire trade industries. The smartest decision at that time was for the native Ghanaian to reclaim his sovereign powers from our neighbors who had then taken advantage of the negligence of the freebies doling kingpin of Ghana-Guinea-Mali fame. Our collective well being was compromised for African Unity which was good for the Black human race except for the radical Afrocentric approach of Nkrumah. Even as we speak now the NDC under Mahama has it's own style of the "alien compliance order". The refugees from the conflict regions of Liberia and Ivory Coast have been asked to live. The Chinese are being deported in their numbers. Ironically and unfortunately Trokosi refugees from Togoland and Wangaras from Upper Volta who are the bane of our economic depression are left to bask in their own glow because the NDC use them as a conduit to rig elections. What about that? Stick your finger into your stinky ass hole and lick if you don't know Malians, Burkinabe and Togolese are always recruited to vote for the NDC. Down sucker. Stay off Ashantis for you hate writings will end up nowhere.

If Busia inherited a broke nation, you should hold Afrifa responsible as he was in the driver's seat before handing over to Busia. That story of Nkrumah wrecking the economy was one of the swan songs of his discredited opponents who were (and are still hell-bent) on denigrating the Osagyefo.

A very good article that seeks to give Ghana some hope of regaining economic stability - with a few differeing points of opinion from specific readers. Regrettably, your suggestions cannot be executed successfully without first addressing the crux of Ghana's problems; namely, tribalism. It is a fear based on the unknown, an assumption, or a fear founded on indoctrination - "seeing a boguey where there ain't none?" And how we relish in hurtling insults - the more vulgar, the better - at each other! We are all guilty of it and it must stop!
The other important issue one of your readers mentioned is that we have not yet grasped the art of maintenance. We let factories run down for lack of foresight, interest, or even care. Apparently that is a Black "thang." Well it's time to change that now!
Solution:Even though Ghanaians love to argue and never stop, we must come together to air our grievances face to face so we may bridge the horrific divide between us. Asantes and Ewes must agree to disagree on some points.
Finally, we need to mobilize all conscious Ghanaians to street protests against any corrupt person(s), group or company, irrespective of ethnicity or partisanship. That's what life is all about. However, this ongoing tribal war on Ghanaweb is working to our detriment. Peace and love in Ghana!

There's good and bad on both sides of the fence and I know some of the issues can be so emotionally charged that they crowd our judgments in the heat of it letting us lose our otherwise cool way of dealing with them.

It is simply an illusion to think and believe, in the same manner as to believe that a god created this universe in 6 days and took a rest on the 7th, that the Western countries developed by means of purely the free enterprise system as one reads in the neo-liberal economics text books. That's the fantasy we have been sold and some are hooked on. A study of the political economy of those countries reveal something else.
Fact is, they all did so with a hefty support of state power, resources and intervention in the economy. That's why Karl Marx wrote that "the State was just a committee for managing the whole affairs of the bourgeoisie." The stark reality that the methods the bourgeois of Europe and America used to enrich themselves and develop their countries are simply no longer available or permissible is lost on those who who advocate a free enterprise system. The consequences of using such means in Thailand underpin the crisis in that country since the mid 2000s. Yes, the bourgeois, using the King as a rallying force, managed to beat back and crush the Maoist rebellion with American and Western covert military support but the divisions are indelible.
The dominant roles the state has played and continue to play in the devt of the Asian Tigers, etc. have been documented in articles and books. China, a so-called communist country, stands tall today, with the bastion of capitalism, American, deeply in debt to it! Unless we Africans are weaned off this private free enterprise myth, the better for us.
