Term limits is not a bad idea at all;but in our part of the world, would that would that not fuel wholesale corruption, and shift attention from development programs/policies with long gestation periods needed to transform our economy and country?

Why do some people try to comment on issues when they are least educated on them? Okoampa, you are a stark illiterate in The evolution of the Legislature and you better stick to what you know best! You found it necessary to equate what happened in the City to the your country's legislature. You spoke of two year terms for Congressional Reps but failed to add that there was NO LIMIT to the NUMBER of TIMES they could contest. Nor did you speak of Senate terms. That is the issue! And that is what speaks of the almighty EXPERIENCE! When the Edward Kennedy's and John McCains are mentioned it is about their length of stay and their wealth of experience and not about a profound classroom intellect! To you the high turn-over could be useful because that could lead to replacement by better educated people. Okoampah, that is where you exhibited the depth of your crass illiteracy! First Politics in general is a profession, especially, the Legislature. A first-timer Ph.D will be found wanting in the corridors of the Legislature or the Executive, no matter his IQ! He needs time to appreciate the ropes and the motions! And not many PhDs home or abroad have been successful in the area of politics! They can comfortably critique from the ivory towers. Second, because of the over-exposure limitations, not many people are prepared to enter into the fray of politics anywhere in the world. Okoampah, why don't you come over and contest a seat for a starter? You see, TALK IS CHEAP!!! And thirdly, for the third world legislators, and especially for countries where the Legislature had always been at the brunt of Military interventions, it had NOT had the time to grow and to mature! And in Ghana do not forget the constraints of no offices, no assistants, no funds, no everything....! Please, stop the cheap talk. And be realistic!

Address what the minority leader is opposed to, which is the democratic exercising of periodic party primaries and stop beating about the Peki forest.
Ghana has a far less complex unicameral legislative system, so there was no need for me to bring in the U.S. Senate. Besides, here in the United States, "experienced" politicians actually deliver, they just don't wait around the corner looking for unearned gratuities. Non-performing ones are also periodically recalled by their constituents collecting protest signatures.
And,by the way, why would I want to demean myself by getting elected in order to become a part of such abjectly otiose legislative assembly?
Come on, come off your nonsense about Ivory Tower academics not being successful politicians: Have you ever heard of Dick Armey, Newt Gingrich, Barack Obama and Mario Cuomo? And, oh, Bill Clinton and late Senator Paul Simon?
Don't project your crass ignorance with your Trokosi Envy of Ph.D. holders. I have several colleagues who have served in Ghana's rag-tag parliament. So what are you talking about?!

'Demean yourself..........' Indeed!!! For your information, you are no where near the feet of those Honorable men in our Parliament! Remember, your uncle of a Demi- god, Akuffo Addo was once there!?? The House abounds in PHDs and Professors. And they have REAL constraints that people of your ilk will NEVER comprehend. Enough of your balderdash!

You have finally said something smart I can agree to.I almost fainted hearing Mr.Mensah-Bonsu make that ignorant statement. The UP/PP/NPP has always had leadership problems being backwardness and bushmen mentallity. He obviously does not realize that cronyism, entrenchment and all that you have described are parts of our rotten corrupt country.I say three terms-12years would be enough and the current NDC majority can pass that bill right now and make it permanent part of the constitution.
