  It is shame that Ghana can't pay its teachers and nurses but will put two deputy ministers in each ministry. What a waste. Why do MPs have to double up as ministers, are there not enough folks out there who can be deputy ministers, assuming the positions are needed? Our problem in Ghana is exactly what the writer alluded to – only party” faithfuls” should be giving assignments in government and not base appointments on merit. In many countries even opposition party members who are really good at a position are left in place to continue doing the good job they do. They don’t simply remove them because they are not part of the party in power. Ghana will progress if we stop putting square pegs in round holes, just because positions have to be filled with party members.
  By the way, it does seem like Nana Oye, Hannah and Tekrper are some of the few solid ministers Mahama has, they don't seem to continue with the status quo but rather try to make changes. Ghanaians hate changes, so anyone who tries to assert his/her authority to make changes and instill some discipline is branded as an “autocrat” etc.
  I think the deputies ought to be removed and to give Nana Oye the free hand without these petty disruptions to run her ministry. Why appoint deputies when there are already senior government (nonpolitical) workers already in place? Bravo Nana Oye!

She must cooperate with the social workers and other technocrats in the ministry and she will not have any problems. She must be told in the face that, for God sake, her two deputies will be contesting again in the next elections and they let convince their constituents that they are ready for reelection. What does nana oye want from her deputies?

  Most people in Ghana don't know the difference between a no nonsense management style and "so called lack of respect" management style.
