  You are right about the internal bickering taking away from the NPP having their eyes on the ball.
  You are however wrong on asking them to restrict activities to the house only. NPP MPs are members of committees and most of the work they do is away from public gaze so you can't say they do not discharge their duties in the house.
  Most people confuse the governing architecture with what obtains in the UK. The UK recognises the Opposition and the post of Opposition is a recognised and paid position. The shadow cabinet is recognised and is funded.
  Ghana has a hybrid architecture where there is no explicit recognition of an Opposition. Every vote in parliament is decided on a simple majority. Hence when the parliamentary majority is of the same party as the Executive, the minority cannot effect any change apart from using ex-parliamentary means - press conferences, boycotts , walkouts and demonstrations.
  I wish those of you concerned about a weak Opposition will rather press for changes in the Constitution and the standing orders of parliament.
  Until we shift from simple majorities to qualified majorities and until we explicitly recognise the Opposition in our Constitution and fund them to come up with alternative policy positions, nothing much will change. It pinches hard with a bad government.
  I will say if parliament as a whole does not have research support and cannot hold the Executive in check, how much can a subset of parliament do.
  You are right to be frustrated as I am but our Constitution has stitched us all up. We should all get involved and take the amendments seriously.

  Kit, You are right on point. The NPP is simply not serious. Ghanians will have to wake up and give the PPP a chance.

  Bless you, Nkunim. After 57 years Ghana could have gone farther than our present situation. At least we could have been in the same league as Malaysia and Hong Kong and why not?.
