As I indicated in my first comment, I used to fight over that name Kofi Babon as the general meaning was that I was a bad child/boy. In fact, it was used when in their view I had something bad. Even my siblings used to teased me with the name. The fact was that I was not a bad child/boy but rather I would not take nonsense from anybody as a kid. I used to challenge even adults and in rural Ghana in those days, I was a bad child/boy and I believe that was they gave me that name rather because I was Kofi. There were other children called Kofi but no one called the Kofi Babon.

As far as what Opanin Asiamah's appellations, I am unable to confirm it or dispute him because my knowledge in and understanding of Akan customs and traditions are very weak. I cannot read and write Akan and have difficulty understanding Akan proverbs.

On that note of yours I should add that rumour has it that Napoleon was the reason why and how most of the Europeans obtained funny surnames. Now, in centuries past when Napoleon Bonaparte and his mighty French army were conquering one European state after the other, he thought of enlisting the citizenry for taxation purposes. So, by cutting down too many of Johns, Patricks, Barts, Angelina, Yolanda and what have you already in the system, he decided to coin-out second names for them to make the identification for taxation much more easier.

Thence, he simply asked the people to voice out their own choices for a second name and they obliged by giving out all sorts of funny names consisting of things, animals, farm equipment and all of the rest around them with the aim of fooling Napoleon. But, unknown to them, all ware being registered and at the end of the day they rather end-up fooling themselves but not Napoleon as they had hoped for.

Some of these names came about in time past when our mothers who couldn't conceive went to gods like Tigare and others and sought their intervention to have children.

With our biological limitations at that time as why these women could not have children, the "Akomfuo" or Priests at these shrines treated them with herbs to cure their biological problems for them to have children and attributed this to spirituality and therefore for the children to live and not die, should adopt some of these weird names here and women having names like Abena Kwabena which my Auntie who came before my mother was named.

My mother too has one of the weird names so is my Auntie after my mother. Most of these Akan names originated from these Akan gods.

All their book knowledge is trumped by spiritualism. Thinking of how T.B. Joshua became a part of the Castle staff during the Mills Administration is an indication of how far this nonsense would go. Shamelessly the nation's leaders would grovel at the feet of a foreigner whose claim to fame was his purported superiority acquired from God.

In fact, if my memory serves me right there was not lest than three so called prophecies from his type of men of god before and during the world cup indicating that Gh was going to win.
