Type mum into Google and the first entry that comes up tells you that mum is a word that means mother (and then it goes on to list other things it could also mean).
Furthermore, a whole list of other websites come up which support this, for instance mumsnet, netmums etc - all websites about mums!

That aside, I don't think you should be replying in such an unprofessional manner to people who comment on your article. You have written an article, and everybody is entitled to their opinion.
If you don't want to receive comments, then dont put up articles on Ghanaweb. If you are so sensitive then you shouldnt be publishing on ghanaweb.

Incidentally, whilst I agree to an extent with some of the points you have raised, Slim also raises a very valid point re the way the GFA handled themselves. There are several contributors to our embarassing experience in Brazil, and whilst the players are part of it, the GFA has to accept a greater proportion of the blame.

Finally, given your accreditations (MBA from Ivy League?), your grammar is poor. For example, in the second paragraph, you should have used the word "thuggish", not "thuggery"
or, in paragraph 4 should have been "....that there WERE three men..." not "... that there ARE three men..." UNLESS you were actually quoting what the hotel management said, in which case, you need to put quotation marks on the words that they said.

Blackstars Mess In Brazil, Blame The Government

In as much as I want to wait till the fate of Ghana is decided in about three hours before making my views known about the mess going on in the Blackstars camp in Brazil, I believe the problem should be blamed mostly on this Mahama Sports Ministry administration.

I wrote many times about the supposed government budget of the $9.6 million to the Blackstars which is causing the problem for the GFA and the country at large because this $9.6 million was not budgeted for Blackstars but it was a money budgeted for the comfort of the fifteen(15) Ministers, deputy Ministers and Ndc party officials who have been tagging along this team from Rotterdam, Netherlands, Miami, USA and then to Brazil. Where is the so called government money to the Blackstars supposed to be $9.6 million? This so.called money is not made available to the GFA for its operations but is being used to sponsor all those government officials in Brazil, the so called celebrities, Ambulley and other hangers on including the over 500 supporters out there.

Do we all remember Afriyie Ankrah telling the nation that the government is going to give this money to the Blackstars and will not ask for the money back despite the fact that FIFA was going to take care of the Blackstars appearance fees that has caused a lot of consternation for the playing body? Why didn't the government pay the money to the team before it left the shores of the country?

The story being banded about by this administration that the team wanted a physical cash is a lie. The Ministry of Sports wanted to deposit this money in a Bank here in Ghana in cedis, more than a month ago and give the Players a card each where they can withdraw the money anywhere they want in that country's currency and the Players refused and I don't blame them.

With the cedi depreciating every day, their $75,000 if it had been deposited into their accounts a month ago in cedis in Ghana would be worth about $70,000 today whilst the GFA will get the FIFA $8 million in about a month and whatever the depreciation the cedi has gone through will be a profit to these clever thieves in the Ministry of Sports and GFA. These Players are not as stupid as the officials think, they have Agents and family members who can tell them the game these officials are playing.

This situation would not have come about if GFA was allowed to operate independently as it is supposed to be. The GFA could have gone to most Banks in Ghana and take $3 million loan to pay the initial $75,000 per player as initially accepted and that would have been enough to take care of the Players and technical staff and all their needs.

The Blackstars has already been given $1.5 million preparation money which is not part of the guaranteed $8 million.

The government could have budgeted just $2 million to take care of its officials it want to accompany the team to Brazil but the government village idiots who thought this is an opportunity to be tourists without paying for it through their own pockets accompanied the team to Netherlands, USA and finally in Brazil. What a waste of government resources.

This mess happened in South Africa and we thought we learned something but it has gone from bad to worse. Akua Densuah, the Sports Minister in 2010 took her Driver, Bodygurad, cook and daughter to South Africa at the expense of taxpayers and declared that Blackstars won $11 million whilst the actual figure was $14 million and Parliament did not even call her to answer the discrepancy in the figures.

Ghanaians are blaming the Players for being greedy and unpatriotic at a time the country is having money problems but the APPEARANCE FEES to the Players is mandated by FIFA who pays this money and the Players deserve this money. They have already earned $8 million and even if you pay each Player $100,000, that will be $2.3 million and still have a balance of $5.7 to the nation, so we should stop blaming the Players for demanding what is theirs and put the blame at the Sports Ministry.

I wrote more than four articles warning about this same thing and in one or two of those articles if my memory serves me right, you the same guy allowed your subjective political interest to blind you because I wrote about what went on in South Africa in 2010 and how the Sports Minister at the time and the GFA officials cheated Ghana and now you are here.

Do you even know Captain Gyan, Dede and Jordan Ayew and other two Players went to GFA Officials and complained about the preferential treatment the three were getting? Yes, the three Amigos destroyed the team's unity and their behavior played part in our defeat.

Are you aware because of Muntari's fight which started at 10 pm Brazil time the day before the Portugal game went on till 4 AM before the Players could go to sleep and they were late to the stadium for more than one hour which made the FIFA Officials really upset and warned GFA for their tardiness?

The team was a defeated team before they played Portugal because of Muntari's selfish behavior.

GFA and the Sports Minstry were wrong for all what you have written but that does not absolve the foolishness of the three Amigos.

The government could have budgeted just $2 million to take care of its officials it want to accompany the team to Brazil but the government village idiots who thought this is an opportunity to be tourists without paying for it through their own pockets accompanied the team to Netherlands, USA and finally in Brazil. What a waste of government resources.

This mess happened in South Africa and we thought we learned something but it has gone from bad to worse. Akua Densuah, the Sports Minister in 2010 took her Driver, Bodygurad, cook and daughter to South Africa at the expense of taxpayers and declared that Blackstars won $11 million whilst the actual figure was $14 million and Parliament did not even call her to answer the discrepancy in the figures.

Ghanaians are blaming the Players for being greedy and unpatriotic at a time the country is having money problems but the APPEARANCE FEES to the Players is mandated by FIFA who pays this money and the Players deserve this money. They have already earned $8 million and even if you pay each Player $100,000, that will be $2.3 million and still have a balance of $5.7 to the nation, so we should stop blaming the Players for demanding what is theirs and put the blame at the Sports Ministry.

One thing about me is that, I will always try to be fair in my judgment of issues. The fact that the GFA did wrong and maybe 90 percent of the blame for our failure to qualify to the knockout stage should be on them and Sports Ministry, it does not absolve the behavior of some of these Players who demanded special treatment that brought division into the team.

If you think what I wrote is wrong, wait till you hear more the coming days. The GFA is supposed to hold a press conference today at 10.00 AM.

Some of you are not even aware because of the mess Sulley created, the players did not go to sleep until 4AM the day of our match against Portugal and Blackstars was one and half hours late to the stadium which angered the FIFA officials.

The GFA and the Sports Ministry are corrupt and we should demand their resignation and prosecution but any behavior that will destroy the unity of the team should be condemned. I am not supporting Armah or GFA but we should be fair to demand the same thing from the playing and technical members of the team. Indiscipline in a team will always bring failure. Muntari is an indiscipline Player. At almost 35, this guy was even sagging on the field, one of the two players amongst all the 32 teams players that did that, the other player being the 22 year old Jordan Ayew.

The real problem was created by the Sports Ministry. It should have stayed out of gfa affairs and allowed gfa to source its own funds since FIFA pays them enough to take care of their affairs but for the Ministry to perpetrate corruption on Ghanaians, it has to get involved. Why can't we as people prevent problems from happening and always allow problems to happen and then start pointing fingers?

I do agree these people should resign but it is not also right to say they should not come and tell us what went on in Brazil. Some newspapers in Ghana today are reporting some of the things I wrote in this article. We need to know what went on so that we can start rebuilding the team not from two years ahead but right from today.

The gfa officials, sports ministry and the Blackstars including the technical team are all to blame and we need to listen to both sides and address the problem.

Blackstars Mess In Brazil, Blame The Government

In as much as I want to wait till the fate of Ghana is decided in about three hours before making my views known about the mess going on in the Blackstars camp in Brazil, I believe the problem should be blamed mostly on this Mahama Sports Ministry administration.

I wrote many times about the supposed government budget of the $9.6 million to the Blackstars which is causing the problem for the GFA and the country at large because this $9.6 million was not budgeted for Blackstars but it was a money budgeted for the comfort of the fifteen(15) Ministers, deputy Ministers and Ndc party officials who have been tagging along this team from Rotterdam, Netherlands, Miami, USA and then to Brazil. Where is the so called government money to the Blackstars supposed to be $9.6 million? This so.called money is not made available to the GFA for its operations but is being used to sponsor all those government officials in Brazil, the so called celebrities, Ambulley and other hangers on including the over 500 supporters out there.

Do we all remember Afriyie Ankrah telling the nation that the government is going to give this money to the Blackstars and will not ask for the money back despite the fact that FIFA was going to take care of the Blackstars appearance fees that has caused a lot of consternation for the playing body? Why didn't the government pay the money to the team before it left the shores of the country?

The story being banded about by this administration that the team wanted a physical cash is a lie. The Ministry of Sports wanted to deposit this money in a Bank here in Ghana in cedis, more than a month ago and give the Players a card each where they can withdraw the money anywhere they want in that country's currency and the Players refused and I don't blame them.

With the cedi depreciating every day, their $75,000 if it had been deposited into their accounts a month ago in cedis in Ghana would be worth about $70,000 today whilst the GFA will get the FIFA $8 million in about a month and whatever the depreciation the cedi has gone through will be a profit to these clever thieves in the Ministry of Sports and GFA. These Players are not as stupid as the officials think, they have Agents and family members who can tell them the game these officials are playing.

This situation would not have come about if GFA was allowed to operate independently as it is supposed to be. This article is more than a fiction that cannot convince some of us,it has rather exposed the officials more than what we read in the past if this story has some truth in it.
Any official official who cannot control his temper to the extend of involving himself in a physical fight with a player does not deserve to be in a leadership position of any kind.
As a leader you don't get involve in confrontation with your subordinates rather you use your skills to avoid confrontation but this Armah guy escalated the whole issue by asking Munatari what he can do which resulted in the physical fight which was childish on his part.

Whaaaaat!!!! What a bunch of morons and idiots.Some of the comments are so nauseating that I find it strange that their authors can read and write.

I get the feeling that people like Corney, Slimzee and Mr N are probably around 8 years old of age. They seem to have a difficulty in seeing things from an informed angle or in the right perspective. Not only that, but it is evident that they are not well educated nor do they come from respectable backgrounds or families.

Could it be that, they are being funded by the small change and crumbs from those criminally undisciplined footballers and that is why they are blinded from seeing common-sense or for that matter, any sense of decency? I cant find any other reasons why in the face of all the explanations given by this chap Sarpong, they are still insisting that those common rogues and ruffians who pass off as footballers are in the right. What nonsense is this? People like them are even worse than the corrupt officials and undisciplined footballers that we are all complaining about. They turn common-sense on its head and hang justice and discipline by the balls. Their contributions are in totality so adolescent, impetuous and immature that one is inclined to just simply assume that Sarpong must be right in all his assertions.

I also implore Sarpong that 'when a mad man takes away his clothes when he is bathing, he should not chase the mad man in his nudity to retrieve his clothes. His vulgar exchange with Slimzee and others also comes across as so childish that I begun to wonder if he was of their age-group and level of mental retardation.

Some of us just simply want to know what went wrong and what the problem is, in as much details as possible. Sarpong has made an effort to do just that beautifully. Every discerning person in this country knows that Muntari has got a few screws loose in his head and that KPB is suffering from the Rawlings (coconut) syndrome and that as for Essien he is just a weak personality who can be easily pushed around to do the bidding of others, but we ignore all this and support and praise them because they play football in the name of Ghana at the international level. But now if they wont comport themselves and they will expose those their sub-human weaknesses to cause disgrace and mayhem to the image of our country, we will deal with them appropriately and ruthlessly.

I am sure that they know that those white people they are playing for in Europe have no respect whatsoever for them because after all they are only mere Africans from whom they can make a lot of money and give them the small change. Why dont they also complain about that injustice being done to them in Europe?

Now so if they can submit themselves meekly and respectfully as modern day slaves and endure all the insults and public abuse and above all, go on further to lick the filthy arses of people who do not respect them, why cant they comport themselves in a more matured manner to the local authorities when they are called upon to play for Ghana?

GFA could have told each player to provide Bank and routing details and wired the appearance fees prior to world cup. Its 2014 what major business entities move large amounts of funds via cash payment? It is people like you who are responsible for the current mess the team finds itself in and the result had been that Ghana became the laughing stock of the world!

This article borders on investigative approach, which I doubt you did.
Sounds like being fed with points to disseminate to the public by an interested party.
To be very good at what you do as a Journalist, you don't leave margins for error.
Find out from all parties what actually happened, sit down, read them through, then objectively publish them.
But to be honest to you, this article will paint you as a pocket Journalist, and you will get a lot of flak for it, trust me.

Mr Armah, the other half of the boxing fracas with Muntari came out today to tell his side of the story and his account tallies with what I wrote in my article.

I wished I was writing in support of somebody's interest, at least I could have got paid for my services. The only Players I have ever been to their house is the Ayew brothers father's house.

I don't know any GFA member or anybody from the Sports Ministry. If anybody knows somebody at the two agencies, can they at least help me to get in contact so that I can get some "papers" for all the abuse I am taking?

In all seriousness Mr Nash, I have some few friends who went to Brazil from USA and have given me information some of them too sordid and salacious for public consumption in this forum. Not one or two. I have been receiving information from reliable sources(4) for these articles. I am not a Journalist, just somebody who likes to read and write.

I am getting a lot o flak for sure but I will always strive to tell the truth. Every coin has two sides and every story has three angles, one each from both sides and the truth. Mr Armah has told his side of the story so has Mr Muntari. It is up to an impartial person who witnesses the fracas to tell us the truth and you are getting it from me.

We have lost out of the world cup; but my bigger concern is that we are justifying that the Ghanaian is not capable of managing his own affairs; mind you we had Mr Akwasi Appiah as the coach. A rare opportunity to justify what our founding father Dr Kwame Nkrumah said 'that the Black Man is capable of managing his own affairs. Possibly we should give the Black Stars to a good management organisation to ran the Black Stars or give management support. The Celebrated Ghanaian Sports Scribe was prophetic when he objected the inclusion of Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari. At this time in their careers they should have been more concerned about their place in history. Pele at seventy three is still clelebrated in Brazil and the world of football not because of his wealth but his commitment and dedication to the sports! Ghana would rise again!

Sarpong I believe your story to the last letter my only beer with you is your refusal to ask why the three Amigos behaved the way they did? You would have done not only you readers but Ghana and her sports especially football a great service.
In 2009 there were FIFA national friendly matches in preparation for the 2010 world cup in South Africa. The Blackstars played in Angola and Ivory Coast played against Germany in Germany. There was not much time between these friendly matches and European Champions league matches on Tuesday and Wednesday and most of the Coaches of the Clubs involved refused to release their players for the national teams. This affected among others Ballack the then German captain and Drogba captain of Ivory Coast both were teammates of Essien and for the Blackstars Essien, the then Captain John Mensah, Essien and Muntari. The GFA protested punished the three of them for their refusal to turn up for the match in Angola. Essien and John Mensah who did play for their Clubs in the Champions League accepted the punishment apologized and paid the penalty to avoid the wrath of FIFA but Muntari who was benched and had consequently lost his place in the team (Inter Milan) refused to accepted and therefore thrown out of the team and offered to public persecution by the GFA and the then Ghanaian Coach. Then came, the AFCAN in Angola in early 2010 where Essien got injured in action. His injury was seen by the Blackstars doctors as a minor one only for him to realize later on his returned to London that it was a major injury that nearly ended his career. To err is human but trust is very important and once lost very difficult to win back. Muntari was brought back because the GFA and then Coach wanted to use him to win Baloteli who was Muntari`s teammate at inter to play for Ghana.
Football is a team game and therefore the unity of the team is very pivotal to its success. We are told that the team was divided in groups in separate flights from Holland to the USA while the Officials at least Kwasi Nyantakyi were together with his family or their familes, girlfriends and relatives in the business class of the same flight . Sarpong, who brought divisions into the team then, the three Amigos or the Ghanaian or the Officials? The wives, children and parents of the players are equally important to each of them just as the families of the Officials are to them.

Blackstars Mess In Brazil, Blame The Government

In as much as I want to wait till the fate of Ghana is decided in about three hours before making my views known about the mess going on in the Blackstars camp in Brazil, I believe the problem should be blamed mostly on this Mahama Sports Ministry administration.

I wrote many times about the supposed government budget of the $9.6 million to the Blackstars which is causing the problem for the GFA and the country at large because this $9.6 million was not budgeted for Blackstars but it was a money budgeted for the comfort of the fifteen(15) Ministers, deputy Ministers and Ndc party officials who have been tagging along this team from Rotterdam, Netherlands, Miami, USA and then to Brazil. Where is the so called government money to the Blackstars supposed to be $9.6 million? This so.called money is not made available to the GFA for its operations but is being used to sponsor all those government officials in Brazil, the so called celebrities, Ambulley and other hangers on including the over 500 supporters out there.

Do we all remember Afriyie Ankrah telling the nation that the government is going to give this money to the Blackstars and will not ask for the money back despite the fact that FIFA was going to take care of the Blackstars appearance fees that has caused a lot of consternation for the playing body? Why didn't the government pay the money to the team before it left the shores of the country?

The story being banded about by this administration that the team wanted a physical cash is a lie. The Ministry of Sports wanted to deposit this money in a Bank here in Ghana in cedis, more than a month ago and give the Players a card each where they can withdraw the money anywhere they want in that country's currency and the Players refused and I don't blame them.

With the cedi depreciating every day, their $75,000 if it had been deposited into their accounts a month ago in cedis in Ghana would be worth about $70,000 today whilst the GFA will get the FIFA $8 million in about a month and whatever the depreciation the cedi has gone through will be a profit to these clever thieves in the Ministry of Sports and GFA. These Players are not as stupid as the officials think, they have Agents and family members who can tell them the game these officials are playing.

This situation would not have come about if GFA was allowed to operate independently as it is supposed to be. The GFA could have gone to most Banks in Ghana and take $3 million loan to pay the initial $75,000 per player as initially accepted and that would have been enough to take care of the Players and technical staff and all their needs.

The Blackstars has already been given $1.5 million preparation money which is not part of the guaranteed $8 million.

The government could have budgeted just $2 million to take care of its officials it want to accompany the team to Brazil but the government village idiots who thought this is an opportunity to be tourists without paying for it through their own pockets accompanied the team to Netherlands, USA and finally in Brazil. What a waste of government resources.

This mess happened in South Africa and we thought we learned something but it has gone from bad to worse. Akua Densuah, the Sports Minister in 2010 took her Driver, Bodygurad, cook and daughter to South Africa at the expense of taxpayers and declared that Blackstars won $11 million whilst the actual figure was $14 million and Parliament did not even call her to answer the discrepancy in the figures.

Ghanaians are blaming the Players for being greedy and unpatriotic at a time the country is having money problems but the APPEARANCE FEES to the Players is mandated by FIFA who pays this money and the Players deserve this money. They have already earned $8 million and even if you pay each Player $100,000, that will be $2.3 million and still have a balance of $5.7 to the nation, so we should stop blaming the Players for demanding what is theirs and put the blame at the Sports Ministry.

Long wait times at the airport terminal. Baggage going missing and not having your boots for training session.. Offered a room with a leaking ceiling whilst the top officials reside in a plush hotel. The Minister in a night club rather than organize a crisis meeting after losing to the USA. Procuring prostitutes.

GFA organized the whole trip on the cheap so they would bank the profit from FIFA's appearance fees. Poor administration, poor planning, cronyism and corruption. That is the source of our failure and not the agitation of the so called 3 amigos.

I wrote more than four articles warning about this same thing and in one or two of those articles if my memory serves me right, you the same guy allowed your subjective political interest to blind you because I wrote about what went on in South Africa in 2010 and how the Sports Minister at the time and the GFA officials cheated Ghana and now you are here.

Do you even know Captain Gyan, Dede and Jordan Ayew and other two Players went to GFA Officials and complained about the preferential treatment the three were getting? Yes, the three Amigos destroyed the team's unity and their behavior played part in our defeat.

Are you aware because of Muntari's fight which started at 10 pm Brazil time the day before the Portugal game went on till 4 AM before the Players could go to sleep and they were late to the stadium for more than one hour which made the FIFA Officials really upset and warned GFA for their tardiness?

The team was a defeated team before they played Portugal because of Muntari's selfish behavior.

GFA and the Sports Minstry were wrong for all what you have written but that does not absolve the foolishness of the three Amigos.

With the cedi depreciating every day, their $75,000 if it had been deposited into their accounts a month ago in cedis in Ghana would be worth about $70,000 today whilst the GFA will get the FIFA $8 million in about a month and whatever the depreciation the cedi has gone through will be a profit to these clever thieves in the Ministry of Sports and GFA. These Players are not as stupid as the officials think, they have Agents and family members who can tell them the game these officials are playing.

This situation would not have come about if GFA was allowed to operate independently as it is supposed to be. The GFA could have gone to most Banks in Ghana and take $3 million loan to pay the initial $75,000 per player as initially accepted and that would have been enough to take care of the Players and technical staff and all their needs.

The Blackstars has already been given $1.5 million preparation money which is not part of the guaranteed $8 million.

The government could have budgeted just $2 million to take care of its officials it want to accompany the team to Brazil but the government village idiots who thought this is an opportunity to be tourists without paying for it through their own pockets accompanied the team to Netherlands, USA and finally in Brazil. What a waste of government resources.

This mess happened in South Africa and we thought we learned something but it has gone from bad to worse. Akua Densuah, the Sports Minister in 2010 took her Driver, Bodygurad, cook and daughter to South Africa at the expense of taxpayers and declared that Blackstars won $11 million whilst the actual figure was $14 million and Parliament did not even call her to answer the discrepancy in the figures.

Ghanaians are blaming the Players for being greedy and unpatriotic at a time the country is having money problems but the APPEARANCE FEES to the Players is mandated by FIFA who pays this money and the Players deserve this money. They have already earned $8 million and even if you pay each Player $100,000, that will be $2.3 million and still have a balance of $5.7 to the nation, so we should stop blaming the Players for demanding what is theirs and put the blame at the Sports Ministry.

I believe every bit of info you provided above, what I found intresting though is that you seems to have failed to seperate your personal judgement from the story itself. The choice of this article even expose that. I'm not sure if you wrote this as a reporter doing your job or purely commentary wise. Because the distinction wasn't very clear is probably the reason for the many nagative comments. As for me I think you did a great job to inform us all. Thank you again and keep writing.

I thank this reporter for telling us the truth. The story has all come together!
Both Kevin and Muntari are "hot-headed". Kevin was pissed that he did not start the first game. Muntari was pissed (he is one player who seems to have problems with authority) because the FA failed to pay for personal belongings that were stolen. Unlike Gyan, he was unforgiving of the GFA and found the 'part-payment' unacceptable. If a professional player can call his coach "Foolish Coach" in the presence of team members, then that play is not worth our respect. If a player can attack an official because the official tried to 'calm' tempers, then that player lacks respect and therefore must not be respected!
Sulley and Kevin have disgraced themselves. They thought they were doing things to create a 'hell' for the coach. They have ended up creating a bad image for themselves. "Wobu koto kwasea a, Nyame hwe woto" (you think you're cheating the crab by dragging it from its hole?, you end up exposing your buttocks to the skies!)
Kevin Boateng is now all over the place in Germany trying to do damage control and trying to put the blame on GFA.
Personally, I believe that to serve as a deterrent Mr. Armah must press ASSAULT CHARGES against Sulley Muntari! In a civilized world you do not have your grievances address by slapping and destroying mobile phones and laptops!

I feel bad for a writer who expressed a mixture of opinion and fact and who is being insulted by people just because they disagree with his assessment of the situation. The GFA was wrong but so were the 3 players who should know better than to act the way they did if the allegations are true.Reminds me of politicians who knew how to say all the right things when they worked for the UN and other organizations and as soon as they are in charge of their own countries,a sudden shameless attitude change occurs. African players often do the same thing.
