  Great piece! Most of those shouting corruption at the Mahama's administration are saboteurs; every Ghanaian, especially civil servants needs to do his/her job, and well too.

  Good leadership counts a lot in any given society. If a leader surrounds himself with over 700 staffers simply because a predecessor had over 700 staffers also, that can't inspire anybody. If a leader is concerned about making sure he engages inordinately the services of his tribesmen to the disadvantage of other tribes, that creates unavoidably a recipe for discontent. When things are done on tribal or ethnic bases there's little incentive to ensure the proper supervision or execution of those things. When one looks around and sees others getting rich easily as a result of political affiliation or favoritism , how does one lend his support to those perpetrating the graft? Every little misstep on the part of a leader has a reverberating effect on the people. When a people are destitute but find their leader sincere and honest and astute, those people maintain a good spirit that soon lifts the country up. Otherwise, those people soon find their own way, each as s/he pleases - each for him/herself. And for sure, they'll curse that leader. Trust the fact that when people see good things, they realize it. A president shouldn't go to the office to carry a party but a nation. It takes special wisdom and courage and a sense of mission - and an intense desire to be fair. And he must always verify and not simply trust the people to whom he commits certain national contracts. He must be as much hands-on as possible and not an armchair, always talking, ceremonial head of state. At least, not for a struggling country like Ghana.
  If you've ever been a teacher you'll know what I mean. The same subject may be presented in different ways by different teachers, each thinking their presentation is the best. But the presentation of the talented one clearly stands out.
  Setting examples is very important. For instance, there's a lot of complaint about bribery during recruitment into the military or the police. A hard-nosed president could take over the recruitment process or personally supervise it, just for one time, for the sake of example. It'll generate a lot of talk, but in his favour. His point will simply be: he wants fairness in all the departments of his government. Things like this can go a long way to encourage the people in the practice of fairness. Sometimes, it takes small initiatives like this to undo big problems. Imagine about two hundred recruits of police men or the army boasting that they were "cleanly" recruited by the president himself. Imagine the kind of service they will render to the country and the positive influence of the president's action on the general populace!

  Well what happened I thought we are an oil exporting country. BOST, ERA, ECG officials all travel first class and inflate the price of the tickets for a kickback. God help Ghana. Taxi drivers selling fuel. What a shame.

  The truth of the matter is human beings are naturally corrupt when given the opportunity. Corruption is the child of greed. In every society if conditions are created for people to be corrupt they will certainly be corrupt because of the in borne greed.In every society, it is the enforcement of the rules,regulations, policies and strict adherence to what is right in the eyes of the law and God by the leadership that makes people to refrain from corruption.It is the desire to make sure that the systems set in place to guide the behavior and activities are functioning without any breach that curtails corruption.These systems can only work if those who are at the top desire it to be so. There is no nation in the world where its people are corrupt without the leaders being corrupt. It is the corruption of the leadership that brings with it the corruption of the people.When leadership eschews corruption they can enforce the law and the citizens shall abide by the law without any hesitation. However if leadership decides to engulf themselves in corruption then certainly the people will copy it.

WE HAVE SUCH A COMMITTEE TO MANAGE THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS IN GHANA. MY QUESTION TO THIS COMMISSION IS WHAT HAPPENED? CERTAINLY YOU HAVE AN EXPLANATION FOR THE HAVOC YOU CREATED IN GHANA, PERIOD. WE WERE AT ONE TIME IMPORTING ALL OUR OIL NEEDS, NOW WE ARE PRODUCING SOME OF OUR NEEDS AND THEREFORE I AM ASKING WHAT THEN IS GOING ON? IF THESE COMMISSIONS OR COMMITTEES ARE NOT AWARE OF WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO TO REDUCE THE HEADACHES TO THE GOVERNMENT AND THE GOOD PEOPLE OF GHANA, THEN THEY MUST BE ABOLISHED AND THE MONIES PAID TO THEM USED FOR BUILDING MORE SCHOOLS BECAUSE THEY HAVE FAILED IN THEIR DUTIES. THE GOVERNMENT MUST FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. SUCH CRISES DO NOT FARE WELL FOR ANY GOVERNMENT. THERE IS SHORTAGE IN WATER, POWER AND NOW PETROL. WHAT NEXT? THIS IS FAILURE NOT SUCCESS. CAN WE NOT SEE THESE PROBLEMS LOOMING AND WAIT UNTIL IT BLOWS OVER? AGAIN, WHAT ARE THESE COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES DOING?
