Union govt., I think was not rejected on merit. With a bit of modification it would be the best political system for any developing country.
I think, political representation should actually be done on basis of trade or profession. So our parliament would have , taxi drivers, makola women farmers, fisher folk, mechanics, engineers, teadhers, and all represented through their trade or professional association.
Simply put , it will take out the regiona and tribal factor. Besides our country has been done down by 'educated people' they 'educated people' were in charge of railways it collapsed, ghana airways it collapsed, gihoc it collapsed, gntc it collapsed, stc it collapsed, electricity dumsor, water no water, they produce nothing but consumes 70% of our budget, I can go on .
Multiparty democracy which puts predominantly lawyers (educated -brainwased- mostly in the same university by same lecturers, who think same, can never help us.)
We need a system that provides for everyone to be on board.
Whatever you call it.

Our political system is not working not because the system is not good. It is purely the fact that the people who have been charged to man the system are pathologically corrupt beyond redemption. Our problem is not the system. Our problem is the people. If you take an idiot to go and head NASA, he will bring the system down no matter how good the systems of NASA are. I do not care where the person come from so far as he is performing at the optimum. Let us focus the discussion on performance rather than where or which political party the person comes from. I would not mind if John Mahama appoints his wife and children and brothers to whatever position. So far as they are performing i will not have any problems. The matter here is that we have a bunch of non performers who have clogged the system and making everybody to suffer from their violent mediocrity. This is the issue. Multi- party democracy is about competition of ideas as to which ideas can better serve the interest of the people. It is not about bringing unwilling and divergent views into a make shift marriage. We cannot have a system where there is no accountability and nobody takes responsibility. We want one point of call where we can place the blame or the praise. What we need to focus on is to make sure that the electoral system is cleaned up so that somebody does not become the president by fraud. Union government, no please .We rejected that 30 years ago.

Mr. Ampofo, coalition Govt. is NOT UNIGOV. If you do NOT know anything about coalition govts., pls. go to Scandinavia (DENMARK,SWEDEN AND NORWAY), and you will see how effective that works and elliminate corruption. It starts from the bottom up and not vice versa. They take their LOCAL ELECTIONS serious and the local governments are where the decisions come from. Every community gets their fair share of the cake and use it to develope. Do NOT be like the others who are myopic and do NOT have any ideas for the development of Ghana except to plunder it and its resources and help foreign crooks to steal the rest. LEARN! LEARN! and stop talking about things that you know nothing about and let the ones, like Justice V.C.R.A.C.Crabbe and others who know what they are talking about, do the talking. Thank you!

That's why Nkrumah was the greatest Ghanaian to ever live. A totally detribalised Ghanaian who meant and represented what is/was good for the country. May he rest in peace now and always.
