You said it all and right, brother Sarpong: That these benefits structures and regimes were put in place by the British colonialist to do the following, but MUST be changed because we can’t afford it any longer:
1) To attract WORKERS from the UK (England, Ireland, Wales & Scotland) to come and work on the dark continent at that time (in short: they were incentive packages);
2) The White people from the UK (i) didn't know anything about our foods and cooking, hence the need for a cook; (ii) they didn't know our bush roads, towns/villages and the country, hence the need for local drivers to drive them around; and (iii) they needed security personnel to protect them (from the savagery Africans).
Now, Mr. BOBO (the White Man) is long gone, but the STUPID African still thinks s/he should maintain this life style and opulence living—why? Because they enjoy it and can't let go and that’s high level of selfishness!!
Lastly, our SILLY politicians are still maintaining the foolish "retirement age of 60, which was instituted by Mr. BOBO, when the "life expectancy" in those days was shorter, there was poor sanitation, inadequate medical facilities, etc., but to RETIRE teachers and other Civil servants these days and create massive shortages of experienced and skilled personnel in our system is damn INSANE. The retirement age should be raised to 65 years, because people live longer these days than during the colonial era. Why can’t our leaders figure this out??

This paid mouthpiece of the EO Group in Houston, sees no wrong with Kufuor using his proxy to deprive our treasury of $1billion - the rip-off from the oil deal negotiated with Kosmos. These NPP thieves(Dr.Kufuor is the richest Ghanaian - a billionaire worth $1.5 billion. This ain't bad for a man who wasn't even a millionaire in 2000) put the money in Cayman Islands'banks, closer to the US
so they can live like Persian Gulf Sheiks - while escaping justice in Ghana.
Sarpong has forgotten that Kufuor travelled around the world every two weeks in a presidential jet, with Mpiani and other NPP honchos - just to collect PER DIEMS which amounted to millions of dollars, before being kicked out of the Flagstaff House. And what about the $million gold chains Kufuor decorated himself with just before he left office - while children were being taught in "under-tree classrooms"?
Perhaps,the most venal,uncaring, selfish,and egregious rip-off
of the poor and suffering Ghanaians was the recommendation by Kufuor's friend Ms.Hesse, who awarded the ex-President - as EX GRATIA,four brand new and expensive cars and two 4x4s every four years with chaufeurs;two new houses to be transferred to his family upon his death;a fully paid yearly vacation for two;$500,000 to set up his office,$1million in his name to Oxford University:gardeners, cooks, free utilites, security guards - in addition to Police detail. All these in addition to his humongous pension.
Of course, all politicians - the President and his cabinet, and including the useless MPs,have to recognize the dire situation of our economy and take additional pay cut. The 10% pay cut trumpeted by Mahama is not enough. In 2013,Kenyan politicians who are still among the highest paid in Africa, had their salaries cut(the President and Vice by 20%.The President now recieves $11,000 monthly instead of $14,000; MPs took a 40% cut and are now paid $6,000 monthly). Thus, increasing the number of MPs in a small country like Ghana -from 230 to 275 - with all the attendant financial consequences - drains the economy of necessary funds needed for infrastructural development.
In addition,Ghana's bureaucracy is bloated with mostly deadwood, and for a poor(in mind)and small country like ours,we have to cut and cut until we retain only essential and necessary personnel. And above all,the CORRUPTION(the Judiciary is not immune)that has befallen this nation since 1992(It reached its apogee during the Kufuor administration - "corruption has been with us since recorded history")MUST be takled and dealt with severely, before all us go down the abyss.
Finally, Sarpong should tell us how much the ministers in the Kufuor administration were paid - to enable us make an objective and intelligent comparison.
PEACE

After Ghana's Brazil 2014 WC debacle, not to mention the accompanying soap opera and comedy of errors that turned us into the butt of international jokes , many outraged and disappointed ghanaians were quick to point out the players lack of patriotic spirit which in their opinion was the cause of failure. I don't know about the veracity of that. The appearance fees , the major source of discrepancy, were monies paid from FIFA largesse and the playing body were entitled to a large chunk of it. If we expected a patriotic zeal from these professional athletes what are we saying to politicians and their appointees who are feeding fat on our financial resources in a time of austerity with a ravenous appetite? Let's not forget that based on the recommendations of a salary review committee, President Mahama authorized a 60 per cent increase in salary for himself and many others at a time when he had just told ghanaians his most famous quote: "there's no meat left on the bone", meaning the nation was broke. Was there any justification for salary increase, considering the poor state of the economy? The ruling class , by that single act of indiscretion pushed the majority poor ghanaians further to the wall and as if that was not enough, they are now pushing us, we, the people, who"lay the golden eggs" into the wall while they, our employees, loosen their belts from the extra weight gained from their hoggish appetite . Haven't we been over generous and is it not about time we gave them a well deserved hair cut if they won't sacrifice a portion of their salaries in solidarity with the suffering of we, the people? By the way, shouldn't reward be well deserved; shouldn't it come after hard work and success? Over to you, people of the nation.

Mr Justice Sarpong and all fellow Ghanaians,it breaks my heart to read derogatory comments from other sources in response to any article in this medium, particularly, when the writer has gone out of his way to furnish the populace with, hitherto, unknown facts.
Let's learn to appreciate research and give credence to well meaning men and women who are engaged in this activity. Instead of shooting everything down in the name of political affiliations.
Ghana needs to evaluate its expenditure (I think this is what the piece was about)in the first instance. No economy would be sustainable if its expenditure outweighs its revenue.Ghana needs to be introspective, if we are to become self-reliant.We have been blessed with all what the country needs, free of charge, by God. Yet,our administrators continue to follow a well beaten track in their thinking.
Where is the country's checks and balances? where is our collective accountability? where is our honesty to office? where is our fairness? where is our responsibility to duty? where is our need to serve and not be served? A famous president once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country." The whole country is being fed on mediocrity and subserviency, which has permeated into our psyche. We have become susceptible to corruption, nepotism, greed, envy, incompetence, stealing, lying, wickedness and above all selfishness.
There is not a single oita of honesty, truthfulness and decency in anyone in Ghana, from the President, politicians, Heads of industry, businesses, corporations,Religious leaders, their members, sellers, hawkers and family members. We have created a state of Sodom and Gomorra, literally and it will not be long before we pay a terrible price. A famous song writer wrote that, "You can fool some people sometime, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." The country is calling for its people to stand up for their right.
It's about time we start listening to people like, Abdul Kweku Malik and Justice Sarpong and stop being partisans. We are being deluded and taking for a ride. Ghana, wake up and unite!
