  Do students still copy other people's theses dissertations? The undergrad classes are far too large and so assignments are not marked. Some teaching assistants take money from students to help them with marks.

  Do lecturers still give notes instead of getting materials available for students to prepare their own notes? Do lecturers still assess students with the chew and pour methods or they have revert to coursework and project based methods? The strength of PhD students is rooted in these methods and not the chew and pour system!

  I agree and disagree with various points in the article. Nevertheless, I can see a man who has his heart in the right place and wanting to help improve the situation. Even top universities around the well are not satisfied and want to keep going higher. I love such article. I will encourage Dr Arthur to keep the discussion alive, let organize debates on it. All hands should be on deck to improve the standards in Education in Ghana. Dr. Arthur I hope you can welcome all forms of criticism so that we can an intellectual debate. God bless you.

  Our higher education institutions should not only help students acquire knowledge, they should engage in research and, most importantly, find solutions to the problems of our society.
  
  The long essays, theses and dissertations should be based on societal problems. There should be collaboration between universities and research institutes in this regard. The introduction of doctoral programs would be a step in the right direction. External examiners and other forms of collaboration could be sought from prestigious universities outside our country to enhance the quality of these programs. And if doctoral, why not post-doctoral, higher and senior postdoctoral programs?
  
  The post-graduate programs should cover all disciplines, with interdisciplinary collaboration actively encouraged. This is because real-life problems generally do not fall under a single discipline, but require a multi-disciplinary approach to solve.
  
  Academia and research institutions must add value to research by disseminating findings widely and establishing linkages with industry, government and the wider society.
