Patriotism tend to be used as an emotive word during times of crisis when governments have been reckless with their policies.
For patriotism to be upheld in Ghana in the current circumstances, a lot of things have to heppen:
1. Government has to admit that there is an economic crisis. It has to admit that this was not caused by the single spine salary alone, but also the very high interest payments as a result of the reckless borrowing in the last 5 years to fund consumption.
2. It has to genuinely invite all political parties, unconditionally, to the table with no attempt at laying blame anywhere else.
3. The ostentatious lifestyles of ministers have to be curbed. A lot of so-called aides and special assistants have to be let go. The V8's have to be auctioned (a lot of them). A freeze on further purchases have to be announced.
4. All data about the economy should be made available with no attempts to conceal.
Then and only then can patriotism be whipped up. In the midst of lack of information and display of opulence by those in power, how can patriotism come to the fore? If the prince refuses to fight, the servant runs away!

Ghana has always had a budget shortfall. Any ambitious government will nmeed to borrow. What has affected us is that " we have found oil so all will be well" We need tp PRODUCE If we have to import even veggies , why will we not go broke ? All are guilty starting with those who closed Nkrumah factories and trade liberalisation apostles . Let us eat what we grow, wear what we manufacture and build with local materials

Mojo I wish all of you good luck who think we can borrow ourselves out of the current mess. I'm tired of arguing.
