If this dishonorable hate lazed essays of abusive effusions by a seemingly disgruntled fella, the embittered soul of vindictiveness and purposeless crusader of divisiveness, is not an expressive symtomatology of cranial nerve dysfunction, as neuro surgeons would want to put it, then I don't know what it is. What is the intended purpose of this write up full of insults if you don't mean to deepen the cracks of political/tribal tension that is eroding the development fortunes of the one nation we claim to love. These series are uneducative and a complete waist of your own precious time. Your time to offer solutions to the numerous problems confronting Ghana just as some of us has been organizing free clinics in our communities. Think about that.

Who does this writer's cap fit? Okoampa? Akadu Mensema? Dr SAS? Michael Bokor? Mahama? Too many innuedoes! And essay is tangential. No specific theme as the centre cannot hold and mere anarchy is loose upon the mind. The author is worried about the fracas, political brouhaha, in~fighting etc and the docility, turpitude, inaction and passivity of the Ghanaian not to call a spade a spade and do something. Well, he pontificates from afar and we will call on him to serve us some good stuff he used to

Dear Brothers,
Critical readers and thinkers like you are why I have refused to come here explaining everything I write in this series.
For instance, YAW's comments here (MATTER-OF-FACT) reduce my essay to all that I have been saying so far in this essay.
Sometimes I wonder if those complaing after reading any piece of this series are merely feiging misconprehension of these simple and straightfoward essays.
I wish they had had time to read the journalistic essays of Wole Soyinka, to mention but one, which I used to read in some African newspapers in New York (as well as one online).
And I had always, even now, taken my time to understand his and others' difficult writings. In fact, what I write about is so straightfoward as to cause misunderstanding. I strongly believe Ghana needs o do something about our improve the culture of reading, critical reading, I mean.
Interesting, there is another reader who has never had a problem with any of the articles I have produced here on Ghanaweb and elsewhere. She is an European-trained Ghanaian poet and writer who used to be a professor of literarture (and English)in the US for several years. She is also bilingual (French, etc) and has also done some important translations in the US.
She (like YAW and others) always interprete my essays correctly as if they have my mind. It is no wonder some readers think YAW is me (though they can easily confirm our identities via IPS). One reader has also given me a hint, that one or two readers who read my essays have a perfect nderstanding of what I write about, but are deeply worried because some of the issues I raise hit them so bad as for them to say anything positive.
Finally, I do not want to undermine readers' respectability. I do not always have to come here telling them what I mean when they don't specifically ask me to explain anything, because readers, whether they agree with me or not, have intelligent minds of their own and should be freely alllowed to read and do their own interpretation.
I should also add that I purposefully wrote these essays ("Fate of A Miguided Scholar") in such a way as to have multiple interpretions with a central thesis. YAW (and my professor friend and others) always has it right. Once again, to those who always seem to complain, YAW and a few others have not had any problems getting to the bottm of my essay. I thank them for making my work easier.
Those like Ekow Essamuah, etc., who don't claim not to understand should do themselves a favor to read YAW's summary. I also know others like Ekow Essamuah don't read critically or even at all because what they say I have said in any of my wrtitings certainly have nothing in commmon with an essay they claim to have read.
Watch out for Part 7.
Thanks to you all.

Dear Sammy,
Thanks for your response.
Here is my take: I don't think when Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Wole Soyinka, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Kwesi Atta Sakyi, or Ngugi wa Thiong'o write for newspapers they have in mind readers who think like them. They simply write like I do. I mean, I don't write thinking of the different levels of intellects readers may have.
How can I even think of such an impossible tasks? I simply write. What is more, I will confidently tell you most readers who complain about the easy-to-read articles I put out here will have a difficult time understanding the beautiful articles Wole Soyinka writes for some of the ordinary African newspapers in New York.
I have noticed on Ghanaweb that people complain too much for trivial reasons.
People complain about short articles.
People complain about long articles.
People complain easy articles.
People complain about difficult articles.
People complain about boring articles that I find intellectually stimulating and informative.
As a little boy my father occasionally made me read Ghanaian newspapers (Daily Graphic, etc) when I did not have the vocabulary and was too young to understand anything. One of my maternal uncles did the same.
I sometimes privately continued to read Ghanaian newspapers at that tender age by consulting dictionaries and talking to adults where I found myself wanting. Dictionary use was even a great challenge at that tender age in those years.
In fact, I sometimes do the same with my 9-year niece and 7-year nephew. I come across new vocabuleries and ask them to look them up in dictioaries on my behalf. This way, they unconsciously pick up "adult" vocabularies while they grow up, not forgetting that I sometimes ask my 9-year niece to read out some of my long Ghanaweb essays to me.
She, my 9-year-old niece, does not take that long to read them, even while I help her out with pronunciation, particularly the unfamiliarly long ones, the "big" words. And she is able to give me a sketchy understanding of what she reads.
I also do discuss my articles with many friends. Some are associate degree holders, PhDs, lawyers, high school teachers, O'level/A'level, master's, middle school certificates, etc. Only one PhD holder asks me to make my writings simpler.
But the others have never raised any objections against the level of writing skills. And most of these guys do not visit Ghanaweb. I send them copies via their private emails once I am done.
These experiences have taught me to take on any writer on the planet without fear of miscomprehending what they write about. Why can't readers do the same with my easy-to-read articles?
Sammy, I implore those readers who are always complaing to sit up and read as I sit up and read the likes of Kwame Botwe-Asamoah, Wole Soyinka, Kwame Anthony Appiah, William Faulkner, Kofi Kissi Dompere, Shakespeare, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Ernest Hemmingway, etc. I don't think these writers write with me on their minds. They simply write.
Wole Soyinka, for instance, ushes me to deep thinking when I read his newspaper articles. You have no idea what he makes me go through when I read his books of essays, poetry, or any of his 5 or 6 memoirs! The fact of the matter is that we just don't like reading. And we just don't appreciate the wide gamut of writing styles in existence.
I was never taught any of these in school! We need to explore and stop complaining. Besides, I don't know who thinks like me until I have read a reader's comments.
I don't complain when I pick up the New York Times, the New Yorker, Transition magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Harvard Review, or Kwani? I devise means to understand a complicated piece if I am interested in a published piece. I did this (read books and articles unrelated to school work) even when I was in school full time and worked six days a week. This fact takes into consideration personal differences. But there are people like that all over the place. Those friends I mentioned earlier have familities, work full time (some are still in schoo), and still make time to read the articles I send them without complaining!
Thanks.

You have chosen your path of verbal effusions and humbly respect it but I kindly would suggest you direct your two ears to your PhD friend who is simply admonishing you to apply yourself to verbal simplicity as opposed to sounding bombastic. Forget not this: In simplicity lies beauty.
Perhaps you can consider this argumentation theory in the light of the majority who support your style: 'Argumentum ad populum.'

Just to register that I've read it all and didn't miss a beat.
Like before, I can only say that we're on the same wavelength and you had written everything I had penned down and more waiting to go to press with. But then, as our mothers used to say, a lot of meat and fish in a soup don't spoil it. So, I shall complement yours with my intended and partially completed series on the ideational bankruptcy of the Ghanaian elite, so-called, btw.
As for the much announced one on the T-thing, it has been ready for years now but has been put in the cooler until an opportune time. Ekow seems to be forgetting that some malignant conditions require painful surgery, including amputating gangrenous limbs in order to save the whole body!
Problem is, hardly any Africans have read a single one of the polemics whites wrote in earlier ages in the quest for changes in their societies.
Your pieces are just child's play compared to some.

I am happy you are here.
I know many Ghanaweb readers by now know you are one of the few capable writers and critics on Ghanaweb who is probably always on the same wavelength with regard to the issues I raise.
I also wish some of these readers will have the opportunity to read the writings of these white writers you mentioned. Sincerely you took the words out of my mouth! That is why you and I and others are always on the same page. This is not merely chance.
Again, you are right to say what I post out here is child's play. I also know your flesh and meat is coming. Some will dash for the bush.
Besides, unlike me, you have always called a spade spade without reservations or hesitation. Not only that, you are also one of the most competent writers on Ghanaweb in terms of style and logical ammunition.
I admire your style though it uncomfortably tickles the wobbly intellect of your detractors.
Let's wait and see what your rich soup of flesh and meat will do to these critics of yours.
Thanks, Brother Yao.

Yaw, perhaps you don't know my background. I read and write avidly. A slice of my background: I read English at KNUST under the tutelage of the late prof s.k. okleme, Dr Dadson, thé list goes on and on. I devoured both African and non African literary minds. From Henry Fielding's' Tom Jones to Wole Soyinka's Kongi's Harvest nothing escaped my critical eyes. I have read most of the refined minds in the literary space. The superior slice of me is another thing not meant for this platform.
The meat of the matter here is my friend Francis has a message but in my humble opinion he is not communicating well.
I admonish him to go back and read the piece he did on Prof Kofi awonoor after his demise. it was woven beautifully in a language that witty, sweet and clear.
The beauty about writing is you can sound witty without being bombastic.
But if this is the style Francis has chosen, so be it. I begrudge him not.

Dear Reader,

Do you want to know the grades I received for all the English classes I have taken in the US? This statement even sounds childish in my ears even as I write it.
This is not an area I want us to delve into because it wrongly gives an impression of boastfulness, one of the things I am vigorously attacking in my series.
And who says Sammy does not understand what I am saying?
English and grammer and style are things I do not want to spend precious time debating.

Trying to weigh his ego and trying to picture how this guy may be sitting in front of his computer thinking how educated he is. Saying to himself how bright a chap he is. How on earth is he able to put his “stuff” out there on this platform from time to time. Mr.Kwarteng who are you trying to influence?.You spend so much time and energy in trying to bamboozle your readers quoting every Afro centric intellectual that you can think of.
My advice to all Ghanaians who think they are “Educated” is; your education or your so called degrees are meaningless until it starts to impact on your village or community “positively”.
Please concentrate on how you can help your village. Put a plan in place for them. How to build their houses, schools, churches, courts etc in a planned fashion. If you look at Ghana almost all localities are suffering from the effects of erosion. The way we roof our houses is completely wrong. You live in North America, why not impact your folks with proper education that will change lives than the nonsense you churn- out day-in and day-out.
Please return with something concrete for your village and let the whole world follow your innovations and intellectual prowers you so pompously show case on Ghana web.
I’m waiting.
