The journalist must respect people the same way people respects them. They cant rely on rumors, especially an affirmed journalist from Graphic. Instead of reporting and informing on malaria, cholera and Ebola they are trying to run successful people down.. What happened is unfortunate but will teach journalists to ask serious questions. We are all learning and building the nation.

Wow, I'm so impressed! An excellent, scholastic piece by all standards. I'm going to post it to friends who won't have the opportunity of seeing it. GJA and GFA are two morbidly rabid institutions that can be likened to the terrible and infectious Ebola virus. Unfortunately, the gutter articles that these unscrupulous, irresponsible journalists post on the web, rather attract a lot of comments. And most of the comments seek to praise and hail them.

Nemesis, the article might have been written in good or excellent English but that does not necessarily make the views or ideas expressed therein excellent. Tilapia is encouraging a state of lawlessness in Ghana. The fact that a journalist has asked an unexpected or inappropriate question does not mean that he should be attacked and beaten. The fact that journalists have fabricated a story does not mean an un-elected official should order their arrest and detention. This is the rule of the jungle and must not be applauded because Ghana is gradually becoming lawless where the rich and powerful believe and behave that they are above the law.
There are laws, rules and regulation for dealing with bad journalists and journalism. That is, either complain to the Ghana Journalist Association, the National Media Commission or file a civil suit at the court. You do not take the law into one's own hands by attacking, beating, arresting and detaining journalists just because one does not like the work of journalists or a journalist made a mistake.
Unless Ghanaians learn to use the appropriate institutions to revolve problems, the jungle rule will destroy Ghana. The policy of an eye for an eye will lead us all blind and there will be no one to lead us from our perpetual darkness. There is too much lawlessness in Ghana.
What Asamoah Gyan's senior brother did to the journalist is uncivilised and should be condemned in no uncertain terms. No one, and I repeat no one in Ghana, no matter his/her wealth, popularity or position in society should be allowed to take the law into their own hands and act as s/he wishes and hold the whole country to ransom. I hope they will be dealt according to law without fear or favour.

Tilapia, you have stated it all. Most of our journalists are thieves. Once there were some very damaging rumours about me . One journalist called me and said that some one had given him some info and that I should give him money otherwise he would publish it. I ask of info he told me. I said it was not true and gave him some tips that would help him know that someone just wanted to use the media to destroy me. That was in the morning. In the evening he called task of the money again in fact in demonstrated that he was not interested in finding the truth. The following the it was news., l went to the editor and the rest is history. Their tactics is that reputation is difficult to build and it is done over a long period of time but it could be destroyed within seconds. Therefore people are eager just to pay them even though stories may not be true they do so avoid damage to their hard won reputation. People are by nature more interested in bad news . The wicked journalists are capitalising on that. I support you 100% but your article is too loaded with unnecessary words.

We have written about how journalism has been rather a bane to developing countries, rather than a blessing. Let us take a look at the conflict in Nigeria and how it is published in our national papers as if there is no Nigerian High Commission and ECOWAS representative in Ghana. The same is about the conflict in Ukraine which our national papers write about quoting western sources only, without any reference to Russia which has an Embassy in Accra.
I wrote on this forum that a journalist who does not want to present fiction as news should avoid to be lead by his or the illusions of others. No citizen has the right to violet the right of another. We should not also pretend that since the aggrieved party will take me to court I can do whatever I desire. The court and sentences are just a deterrence to prevent people from offending each other. Journalist must take note that deterrence is not a defense against the blow of an aggrieved person.
Tilapia is the most common fish to be found in a river, thus Tilapia may be just a common man who does not want to hide behind any fame. While he does not fear injury his word to everyone is that do not cast pearl at swine. If you are of the view that your pearl is wealthy, then put it not on a big because you will descend into the gutter with him.

I won't have posed the question Kenu hurled at Gyan's brother.....on the face of it, it was laughably stupid. No reporter worth his salt would ask such a question.
Perhaps, it was deliberate and intended to provoke. Gyan's response in all fairness was expected, anyone would have reacted in the same fashion. However, as much as he and his brothers are public figures, maximum restraint should have been exercised in the face of such intense provocation....
