I dont know about Europe but in the US it is estimated that 7 out of 10 divorces are initiated and caused by women so as to take the house from the man, throw him on child support and claim alimony.

KL, I have not read all the comments but reading the article, I asked myself if the examples (whether real or not) were the extremes. For example, in the fist example, I cannot understand why sympathetic Ghanaians bought a ticket for the woman and her children to return to Ghana instead of supporting them to restart life without the husband/father. That is unrealistic, when millions of Ghanaians would do anything to leave Ghana for the US.

The second example (Henry), the immigration laws of the UK are such that the Lebanese business owner could not have easily secured work permit and extension of visa for Henry. This is because the work Henry was doing could have been done by anyone and would not qualify for work permit for a foreigner. Secondly, it is also not realistic that Henry's wife in Ghana secured the two properties just because her names were on the Deeds. If Henry fought the case in court then his lawyers failed him because he could have shown documentary evidence of the money he sent to the wife to the court. His Lawyers should have asked the wife to have provide the source/s of the funds she used to build the properties and how she came by the funds.

Perhaps, it the extremes of the cases that make the examples unrealistic and for people to give simple comments. The fact is that cheating in relationships is not new as well not exclusive to the Ghanaian community (whether home or in the Diaspora).

What has made those involving the Diaspora a phenomenon is the additional element of one of the parties involved spending money, time and resources to assist the other only for that other to repay the good and kind deed with ingratitude and causing very serious injury to feelings, hatred and animosity. Even in cases that there are no such kind and expensive asisstance by the one of the parties, there are still cheating within the relationship. Just last week, I heard of a story of a Pastor in Holland who was having a sexual relationship with the daughter of his wife. The young woman is the child from the wife's first marriage but was living with the mother and step father in the same house. They are all Ghanaians or of Ghanaian origins living in Holland.

In other words, cheating will happen irrespective of whether one assisted the other or not but so far as one of the parties is not committed, is greedy, unfaithfully and there is mistrust and misunderstanding within the relationship. This is not new and also common in all societies and communities in Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia, etc. It's not uniquely Ghanaian.

It sures pleases me that you have revisited it and repleted your account with human interest stories.....the examples, factual as they appear, are just astounding....

This issue is as divisive as it is controversial with huge implications for spouses and children.

At the end of the day, it is society that suffers with a torn social fabric fueled by unhappy marriages and divorces.

How we all wish there were solutions to this nagging problem. But the prospects of that are nil..because partners become recalcitrant, vindictive and greedy.

Now, African men having affair/s with multiple women in Africa is just the norm. Even many adopting Western wedding and one-man one-wife norms are cheating like crazy, you'd find when you visit Ghana. Mates who chewed on through sec. to univ all have side shows which cam make the most lecherous Ghanaian abroad green with envy! The difference is that their wives are not divorcing them to the extent we find overseas.

Equality between men and female partners has never existed in Ghanaian culture . Therefore Ghanaian women should understand that they do not measure to the equality American women claim. Unless men in Ghana are forbidden to practice polygamy. Start from the Chiefs.

I will use myself as an example. I am married to a Ghanaian in the US. We I work full time and take care of about 90% of the bills at home. I do what I can to make my family have what they need yet I do not get jack affection from my wife. She stays home most the time yet will have an excuse why she can't make love. From headache, tiredness, not being in the mood etc. It's been almost 4 months since we had any relationship. Women down play the importance of sex in a relationship. I can see myself doing same thing as the guy did by leaving his wife and having a baby outside( I won't do that though). Some women use sex as tool in marriages and I will advise any woman reading this to know that intimacy with your husband is not a crime. Even the bible tells couples not to hold back from their partners.

This is very disheartening and in the case of Joshua, it's much more disheartening. This is one of the issues that prevent some men into entering marriages.

However, in another case. A man denied to be the father of his children he had with her old time wife. They all won the American Visa Lottery and have been in US with their children for the past five (5) years. The man was seeing another beautiful woman which compelled him yo deny fatherhood of his children. Unfortunately, the old wife didn't go by the customs and style of living abroad but rather sort to curses from the lesser gods in Ghana.

To cut a long story short, the man died. The woman did this out of anger and pains. These are some of the ordeals people go through abroad which is causing more deaths and divorces.

Let's get some love for each other and stop the "pull them down " syndrome. Women don't be ill advised

Me as an American country southern girl, is a lot of miscommunication... Everybody here says our marriage is a fairy tale cause his mom chose me to be his wife, and I just went with flow.
