  It has not surprised me that this article has not yet received any comment from the multitude of social commentators that are always ready to do battle for NPP or NDC. Frankly it requires the ready to think and face too many unpleasant truths. It however cuts to the bone about the "sickness" (self-centerdness or narcissism) that afflicts all of us, especially those in power or authority. The author has done us a big favor by connecting trends of things that seem unlrelated. He has also put our condition in a broader the context that clearly shows the response we must give in our generation. However we must bear in mind that the answers may not lie in the current system of democracy we practice because it also feeds the same self serving ends. It is clear that democracy as practiced in Ghana now no longer responds to the demand s of the people, it serves only a partisan quest for power at any cost. Let us seek an alternative platform that serves the national interest.

  We wrote on a number of occasions that capitalism is a corrupt socioeconomic system. How come that U.S. and western countries told Africans to embrace homosexuality but can not tell Saudi Arabia to remove Sharia laws and give women freedom, and also allow them to drive. How come that South Korea generates 75% of her electricity from nuclear sources but North Korea is being prevented from doing so.
  How can the U.S. which is still technically at war with North Korea put up a resolution at the United Nations to prevent North Korea from manufacturing and deploying nuclear weapons when the U.S. has nuclear weapons and is the only country which used them in Japan and Iraq.
  Islamic and Christian churches are involved in in a lot of genocide against mankind. In 1995 the U.S. and Christian churches in Ghana called on the Ghanaian government to outlaw Etroxovi, which has up to date not been involved in any form of genocide against mankind. Up to date no member of the Abram religions and Ghana's parliament has call for the abolition of Islam and Christianity because of their crimes against humanity. It means that in capitalist society it is not fact that are used to judge social issue, but personal sentiments. The leader of the Khemer Rudge regime were brought to justice, Solobodan Milosevic,Charles Taylor, Lauren Gbagbo, among others were all sent to the International Criminal Court. However no Islamist who committed and act of genocide has been send to the ICC.
  We all witness when Kufuor and his people were in power they did all to deprive the people of Ghana with all their asserts, from land, factories, banks and crude oil. John Kufuor sold the Ashanti Goldfield, though himself and Ashanti, Ghana Telecom, Millicom and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and imprisoned the person who set up that corporation and now had the shares of that company to their personal accounts, not that of the state and on behalf of the people of Ghana. Is it not an act of corruption that when KOSMOS was about to shed some of her shares members of the NPP will travel to U.S. to tell the U.S. president not to allow the shares to be sold to the people of Ghana. Is it not corruption that President George Bush used the ruse weapons of destruction in Iraq to cause the mayhem that is still going on in that country, which lead to the loss of life of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and a few thousand lives of Americans? Is it not corruption that the United States of America is not a member of the ICC but can call for referring citizens of other countries there. I am of the view that the NSS, SADA, GYEADA and other issues are in court and are receiving the attentions of the judiciary, thus why not leave the judiciary to attend to those issues.
  Our economic independence came to naught because of corruption in the army, judiciary and civil service. We are were we are today because we do not know what is good for us.

  This is yet another great piece from a most honest Patriot. Anyone who disagrees with this overview of Ghana's Political trajectory could hardly be a patriot at all.
  
  We must acknowledge that it is only when we correctly diagnose our ailment that the proper medication could be prescribed for its cure. And that is what Mr. Anor has so precisely done. My Kudos to him!!
  
  This does not seem a Partisan piece, in my opinion; it is, at worst, an ideologically stinted observation. It is the bare truth of our condition and how we got there, summarized with great exactitude.
  
  Between this piece and Dr. SAS's series on Corruption, we have the blueprint to formulate the right solutions for Ghana's plight.
  
  However, the problem is how any solution would be sought for and implemented. The current Regime and its concomittant Parliarment do not seem to care much for solving the problems, most likely because they are of the same problematic stock who do not really have the Nation's wellbeing at heart, only their parochial personal interests.
  
  That is a big shame!!! I would therefore like to add my voice to invite all true Patriots to link up to brainstorm for solutions to our plight, regardless of their initial ideological backgrounds.
  
  Largely, much of our ideological differences has been whether or not one supported Nkrumah. What is really at stake, however, is the soul of the Nation. We have wasted decades of precious time for building Ghana in needless ideological fights that did not deeply consider the ultimate best for Ghana.
  
  Now is the time to retire those ideological squabbles to focus on the real work of Nation-building. If we don't start now, we would not have any substantial assets left after a couple of decades to rebuild the Nation. Those who are sweeping through our national treasury and other assets to keep the wealth to themselves are not letting up. And sadly, they are siphoning their loot to hoard outside Ghana. I strongly believe there is a certain clamor among these ultra-selfish pseudo-Capitalists for the most they can get out of our Oil Economy before some wiser Nationalist leaders emerge to seal off their looting channels. So, these Assets would soon be out of our reach to recover any of them for the right cause. Time is not on our side.
  
  I hope the Dr. SASs and Mr. Anors of our days, even though not many, could help us put an effective working core together to salvage the nation. I pray that they do not stop at only offering us their observations but more actively push us further in that direction. God bless them!

  I realize how some are more eager on seeing solutions than hearing more of our condition.
  
  The very first thing our true Patriots could do to, at least, slow down the Nation's ruination is to push, by any legal means necessary, for an effective Corruption-Buster measure whose implementation could not be ignored, or dodged.
  
  We need to get patriotic, top-notch Lawyers who would volunteer to immediately petition the Supreme Court to begin demanding that the GRA/IRS look into any recently acquired wealth by various individuals, regardless of their Political background, and starting with Government Officials, to not only retrieve looted Assets but also demand due taxes on any legally acquired revenue or properties.
  
  I know that some of us might think that would be license for the Authorities to witch-hunt political opponents. But it could be done apolitically and without necessarily hurting our enterprising Business-folks, unlike the injudicious Asset confiscation era of the 70s and 80s.
  
  We cannot hide behind such supposition that measures would be misused by Authorities against political opponents to allow the status quo prevail. Those measures could be implemented most transparently and strictly legally and with adequate preamble to educate the Public as to how the measures would apply.
  
  We could, in fact, start with Officials of the Government who, we all know, (by Public consensus), were in charge of the failed Institutions like SADA, GYEEDA, etc.
  
  Along with such immediate Corruption Investigations and imminent prosecution should come a drastic overhaul of our way of handling revenues and disbursements in Government transactions, to include:
  
  1). the prohibition of doing any Government business by cash beyond a few hundreds of Cedis for Imprest;
  
  2). strictly making Procurement and Government Contract negotiations be most Competitive and transparent that every Citizen Entrepreneur could have equal and easy access to the Bidding Process;
  
  3). incentives to our Entrepreneurs to create, seek and grow Capital locally;
  
  4). speeding up our Street Addressing transition to encompass the whole Nation within a couple of years;
  
  5). having Parliarment immediately pass the FOIB;
  
  6). removing many of the restrictions on in-coming investments from our compatriots in diaspora and foreigners;
  
  7). structuring our various inspectorate entities after the US System to streamline the oversight of Government Contract/Project allocation, Construction and Execution.
  
  With the proper checks and balances that would allow the above-mentioned Inspectorate authorities strictly follow all Projects from the day of Bidding to Completion of Projects to prevent shoddy work and cost overruns, we would be plugging one big hole that leaks our treasury;
  
  8). Following up on the Sole Commissioner's findings in the Judgment Debt Commission work, and ensuring every single penny that was unduly paid out be immediately recovered with interests and penalties for fraud associated, in addition to lengthy Jail-time to the culprits.
  
  A reasonable time limit for recovery of all such Monies could be set, and if targets fail to comply, any known assets, including any hidden in Foreign safe-havens could be confiscated, with the help of the International Court of Justice and the Western Judicial Systems.
  
  If China, which still remains a Communist Country, can so effectively hunt down Corruption that it is driving many of her corrupt Officials commit suicide, way beyond any prior levels of that self-termination act in that Country, we could, under our Democratic System seek, at least, the minimum of what the rule of Law calls for to seek Justice.
  
  I may have to add that our biggest snag is not lacking the Laws but lacking their implementation. So, we need to have additional more stringent Laws to force their implementation.
  
  Let others refine and add to this.

He left behind a party, NDC that was hatched and born out of this corruption and now emeshed in the fabric of "create, loot and share". So tell it like it is, for J J Rawlings and his NDC govt. has taken Ghana and her people hoatsge for close to 35yrs. And in thier wake they left a country bankrupt and on the brink of a failed state. Well done J J and your NDC bandits.
