It's good that you write a tribute to this well known African scholar. No matter how you look at him, he was a giant. I never recall him without remembering his line from the Africa Heritage series where he held a glass of water and said a bottle of beer was cheaper in Africa than a clean glass of water. That situation may still be true in many parts of the continent.

But, Francis, couldn't you have just made this a short one part tribute that everybody can read and move on to other things?

Anyway I scanned quickly thru the piece so I would be the first to leave a comment to forestall your "nemesis" (you know who) who'll put his usual comment withot reading a single word you wrote...

The notorious Kwarteng guy will copy paragraphs of different tales from Pontious to Pirate, from North to South at random and at the end mix them anyhow and paste it in Ghanaweb as an article, of course a silly article only to consume space and attach his name to it as a columnist.

And, as a matter of fact, I think the topic he has chosen today is good. Ali Mazrui is a great, if highly criticised, African scholar. Kwarteng has read a lot about him. He, Kwarteng, was not even born when mazrui did much of his work and I am sure Kwarteng was a kid when his BBC series was shown. Yet he has gone back on all those grounds to bring us this.

My only complaint is for him to have made it all simpler and shorter. I don't have to condemn him because of that!

Why do some people want to criticise everything just for the sake of it. Are you one of the attention seekers? This is not the right place to get it! What I gather from your boring comments, Adjoa, is that you're well-versed in the Queen's language and more intelligent than everybody! So I challenge you to intellectually and dispassionately critique Kwarteng's piece and come out with a more "intelligent" tribute to the departed Prof. Otherwise you better don't waste our time on this forum. I'm an Information Scientist and a Political Scientist, and I must admit I enjoyed reading Kwarteng's article (albeit, a bit long) as I sit in my office in a reputable university in S/A where I ply my trade. At least it's a great effort! I've learnt something new. But I don't fault you Adjoa, if you fail to capture at least one good point in the article. I guess you were only looking for mistakes and 'bad sentence construction', and you got a lot! I doubt if you've thoroughly dissected the article before making your infantile and ludicrous comments. People like you need to grow up! If not then give everybody a break! What are your academic credentials and institutional affiliation Adjoa? I guess you schooled at Achimota then at Oxford or Cambridge, he he he!

One more free advice, Adjoa. We live in a civilised society and this forum is meant for civilised people to interact intellectually. So learn to be circumspect and behave with a minimum of decorum when submitting your comments. You can make your submissions without attacking or insulting anyone. Your comments, I must say, are unintelligent and distasteful, to say the least! They expose your character and challenge your intellectual capacity to contribute meaningfully to this forum.

Adjoa will be disappointed if he thinks I'm going to descend into the gutter with him. I'm civilised, matured, well-mannered and well-bred guy, brought up in a GOOD HOME, where we were told never to insult anyone no matter the circumstances. So Adjoa can go ahead with his insults, I will not be moved.
I challenge him (Adjoa) to go through all his submissions and tell us what intellectual contribution he has made concerning Francis' article- Just insults, insults, insults. It shows the type of character we're dealing with. And he has the audacity to call me an IDIOT and a FOOL.
