  Willie, I beg to differ. You rightly said since 1993 no person on death penalty roll has been executed in Ghana. Major country like USA who claims to be champion of human rights still has death penalty in many of its States even though USA is a State Party to the UDHR. For me I think we should still maintain death penalty in our laws because Ghana is considered as an abolitionist in practice country. Let those who are on death roll be there at the pleasure of the President. If you go the prisons in Ghana, there is a notice board that lists the number of prisoners who are on death roll at the pleasure of the President. By the way why are you only interested in Johnson's case while there are other persons on death roll in Ghana prisons. Anyway, we are all expressing our views on this issue.

  Countries which retain the death penalty for ordinary crimes such as murder but can be considered abolitionist in practice in that they have not executed anyone during the past 10 years and are believed to have a policy or established practice of not carrying out executions. The list also includes countries which have made an international commitment not to use the death penalty:
  Algeria, Benin, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo (Republic of), Eritrea, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Kenya, Laos, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Myanmar, Nauru, Niger, Papua New Guinea, Russian Federation, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tonga, Tunisia, and Zambia.
