Where have you been , in hibernation ? You may not know me but I have liked your articles for a along time. Four years ago I travelled to Ghana and I had a taste of their driving. I had a very scary driving experiece driving from Accra to Kumasi and back. I had to veer off the road about 4 times to avoid head on collisions. they do overtaking " by heart " which led me to believe most of the drivers are on drugs. Since then I travel by air when in Ghana.

He has no control over what his tribe is; and if he had said something that is not agreeable to you, all you have to do is to point out his shortcoming with some civility, not insult. Even those who cannot put two words together without a mistake do not deserve to be treated this way. Thank you

Everything said is fresh in my memory, truly it's a hell to drive in Ghana, however, one needs to be careful.

The dangers and the most life threatening one encounters driving in Ghana is when travelling on the so-called highways to the rural areas where people drive like "fowls without heads." However, there are lots of "fufu bars in the corner serving bush meat" where you can at least for your own safety stop for a break.

That was surely a narrow escape at the madina junction pedestrian crossing but i should believe you've long gotten over it!

At least, there's one person who enjoyed my piece. I know this is not the kind of piece ghanawebers like - it's not complaining about our politicians and their ways. And it's a bit on the long side even though I tried hard to cut off many parts - it was longer.

Perhaps (maybe) I'll do something on other funny aspects of life in our dear motherland. The extreme religiosity of our people? You can never tell.

Have a cheerful weekend too. Wherever you are, make sure the police don't get you for drunken driving since they are extra sharp on weekends. Don't forget you're not in Ghana where nobody will arrest you for driving with alcohol levels above the permissible one. You will not be able to get away with a bribe!

My friend,I think your article is good but there are many distortions in it may be you think everything has to do with where you live but that is not exactly how it works.
For example,no distinction between shift car and automatic car license.
Where I live at I can use my license to drive any car in the class license I have except commercial cars so don't think Ghana not having that it is wrong.

The George Bush road is a highway,the fact that there are lights on it does not mean it is not a highway.Highway simply means any major road connecting towns.
Those roads without lights are freeways which in Ghana we can say Motorway is the only one.

If Europeans are transforming their lights to safe Roundabouts I don't think that is good for Ghana looking at the way Roundabouts are creating traffic jams in Accra.
Just look at Tema Roundabout,it is because of that we have that traffic jam every single day and look at the George Bush road and see how dangerous it is accessing the Roundabout between Abelenkpe junction and Achimota area with people coming from Tetteh Quarshie and those coming from Abelenkpe and Dzorwulo side and those going toward Tetteh Quarshie and those going to Abelenkpe and Dzorwulo side on the Obasanjo road.

Anyway it is a good article.

I stopped at the "yield" spot under the overpass after the winding exit from Tema motorway trying to enter the road from legon to Accra. Despite my turn signal, the traffic kept going by. Meanwhile, the horns of the drivers behind me were deafening. I began to inch my way into traffic as slowly as i could afford to. Just as I thought I could "force" my way and continue, GBUM, the oncoming trotro rear ended my vehicle. We had to stop. Guess what the trotro driver got out of his vehicle, insults galore and threatened to beat me up. He demanded i repair his vehicle. Fortunately, one of my friends told me, after a past similar experience, to tell the driver to go fix his car while I also go to fix mine. That worked. Case closed.
