  Traditon is the most difficult to eradicate. Just try to tell Ghanaian fathers not to circumcise their boys, and you will understand why it is hard for some cultures to stop this female genital mutilation.

  What about male circumcision? How do you describe it and can it not be also called 'Male Genital Mutilation'? It is ridiculous for female circumcision to be described as 'mutilation'.If western countries do not like it and see it as primitive that is their problem.My problem with female circumcision is when it is forcibly done on children and without their consent.As with any unacceptable culture education and the passage of laws to stop it are the tools needed to stop it.Calling female circumcision mutilation is far far over the top. Anyway it is up to to the societies practising it to decide whether to stop it or not to.I won't be surprised if such societies also see homosexual acts as primitive and must be banned.

  MALE CIRCUMCISION DOES PREVENT INFECTIONS AND SEXUAL DISEASES. FEMALE CIRCUMCISION IS TOTALLY UNNECESSARY HEALTHWISE THAT IS WHY IT IS CALLED MUTILATION.

This is the meaning of "Mutilation"The infliction of serious damage on something:That is exactly what they do to the girls.

  Female circumcision can rightly be called mutilation. What's the purpose of circumcising the female clitoris, Kwabena? Young girls are circumcised because respective cultures want prevent women from joyful sex. It's a means to control and regulate female sexuality. Kwabena, please don't try outwit us. Don't hide under the mask of constitualism. You should know better!!! Female circumcision has to be labeled a crime, because women become victims of such atrocities and suffer their entire lifes. We as Ghanaians should feel ashamed that such a barbaric tradition is still practiced. If we want a true democratic society, we had better protect the underprivilleged and opressed. However, our airy indifference and ignorance hinder us calling female circumcision what it is: a crime against humanity!!! Sadly, Kwabena has put on an armor indifference.

  Kwame thank you for your view on my comment.Take it from me that I am not supporting what is wrongly labelled as 'Female Genital Mutilation' when it should be described as 'Female Genital Circumcision'.Contrary to those who are against it there are several women who have undergone it and do not see it as a form of mutilation no matter how despicable it is to some people.It will interest you to know that male circumcision is also seen by some people as a form of 'mutilation'which takes place without the consent of those who undergo it when they are babies.Do not forget that the foreskin of the penis has a role to play in the sex lives of men.In some societies it is even abominable for males to be circumcised.
