How dare did he say things like "this guy called Jesus", "I thought he (Jesus) was a madman" and "l think it is inhuman of God to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah" and you say he was defending Christianity. I am concerned about the names of God and Jesus subjected to ridicule, and nothing else.

No, Bemjamin's sarcasm doesn't deceive some of us. By choosing to be sarcastic (not even a particularly brilliant one) he fails to address the real issues.

There are real concrete ways in which Christianity, even if it has done a few good things, has been very dangerous to the world.

His attempt at sarcasm has made him make some very false statements. For instance, Darwin, as a scientist, never claimed he had the final word on anything he said. It is only Christianity that claims final knowledge that cannot be revised or added to, less alone turned around. If any of Science and Christianity has to be scorned for claiming certainty of knowledge, it is surely Christianity.

Benjamim mentions Luke and Matthew from the Bible but obviously pretends that those gentlemen wrote those books when the fact is that NOBODY knows who actually wrote those books and where they took the material from.

As for homosexuality and abortion, Benjamin completely mangles them and even if he takes apart his satire and sarcasm, he still will not make any relevant argument based on Christianity.

It is only Christians who are able to see beyond Benjamin's sarcasm who will praise him for his piece. He doesn't convince anyone else.

With the claims religious people make for their beliefs, one would think religion ought to do much more for the world than it has now done and not be so full of conflict, animosity, hatred and suffering - real and not sarcastic. And this applies in equal measure especially to the three "great" monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Get out a little from seeing from others' perspectives and think on your own. Sometimes, the realities on the ground today shares evidence on the fact that without even the "hypocritical" and imperfect Christianity, the world would have been completely a different place.

Finally, you see, it is NOT the New Testament or Christian Religion, for instance, that has problems and ought to be blamed. The words attributed to Jesus can't be beaten by any stronger sense of morality since it forms the basic precepts enough to edify a very good and justice society for all; it is humans who refuse to interpret them because of their wickedness.

This about this. "Love your God with all your heart, with all your soul" and "Love your neighbor as yourself." The world is about at least 60% Christians and this world knows this quotation for fact but do you wonder why there's so much problem of morality?

Though from the title and the surface of the article, it appears he's actually saying what you noted, he is saying the exact opposite, by making use of satire, sarcasm and irony and he is doing it by using the arguments of critics of Christianity against them in a disguised and skillful manner. Or does Mr. Benjamin want to argue that his ancestors are less important in this area of thought he has selected to satirize?

That during his life time, he's seen many people who died and reported to him that "He" has invited them to "Heaven", or "Hell"!

ITEM: That is how we develop logic, rational thought, and objective knowledge in this post-Atomic age. Knowledge that Mr. Benjamin and his like can use to uplift the multitudes of the people in massive poverty and ignorant "bliss".

Further, "Hell is breaking lose in Africa" in part because many of our so-called leaders are saddled with ideas and attitudes that are not deeply rooted in objectivism, science, and critical thought. All of that is akin to what Benjamin is espousing!

So, let's be serious!

Christianity and associated thought system is far from the center of the world's systems.

The word of God is not meant for the proud and haughty, the ignoramus who thinks he possesses enough knowledge to make him wise, and, hate mongers but for the humble and meek who seek after righteousness.
Being Christian does not necessarily imply being perfect for perfection is a process and the world has become a much better place to live with the influence of Christianity. You make Christianity more relevant though with your ignorance and hateful rhetoric. If there were no Christians the world would have long ceased to exist because of wickedness and intolerance. Christianity sustains and preserves life on earth. I salute all religions that preach tolerance and brotherly love.

The "I have come to bury Christianity not to priase it" phrase should have been a cue as when Mark Anthony used it in Shakespeare, he ended up praising Julius Caesar while most people think he came to criticize him.
