  The Akan stigma about NPP will not erase anytime soon and it all started with Kufuor. Some people are trying to brush that aside but to no avail. In any democracy, when the sitting president is leaving office, the party throw its weight behind the vice to be the flag bearer. That simple thing did not happen when Kufuor was leaving office. Instead of NPP throwing their support behind Alieu Mahama, they chose otherwise and Ghanaians of sound mind did not understand it till today.
  
  Political parties derive their power/support from more people and nothing else so NPP should learn to accommodate others even when it comes to the leadership post be it Ga, Ewe, Dagomba or any of our tribes in Ghana. NPP cannot trick people to push them to power then dump them when the baton is suppose to go to them.
  
  Kufuor was the one who sowed that seed of discord and it has been used to paint NPP as a party for only Ashantis and Akyem. Does it make sense for Kufuor to throw his support behind Alan Kyerematen instead of Alieu Mahama? Supposed Kufuor died on the throne, will the constitution be amended to side-step the Veep and choose someone else? This is purely commonsense but what happened? Kufuor exposes his shallow mind and snob Alieu Mahama for Alan Cash and the good people of Ghana did not forget that.
  
  As we speak, some Ghanaians are warning Bawumia to think twice about the Veep position because of what happened to Aliu Mahama and why will something change this time if and if Nana becomes the president?
  
  The seat of the president is not for a particular tribe and I dare NPP to learn very well from that disgraceful act of Kufuor.

  NDC can be as dumb as bat, and incompetent when it comes to virtue like governance, leadership qualities, and building a nation, but smart when it comes to vice like manipulating polls, shoving bills down the throats of the citizenry in the darkest of night for it to become acts in the morning. Besides, how can somebody come to office and his first act is to increase his salary over 130% and makes it retroactive to January 2009?
  
  Yet, he holds teachers, doctors salaries hostage for over two years, No pay, nada, zilch, and every now and then, pays three months back pay out of the two years, although he flies around the globe in his private jet, even flew empty jet with dollars to Brazil, whilst Rawlings and Kufuor flew in economy or first class BA?

  In 1969, the Anlo Youth tradition became part of Joe Appiah's Ame Ba Bese. In 1979, the UNC. By 1992, it has ceased to exist. Same for the Togoland Congress. The virulent anti-Ewe campaigns of the PP and then the NPP against the PNDC leading to the 1992 elections had ensured that even die-hard anti-PNDC Ewe elite voted for it!

  I was old enough to know what happened from early 1960, esp. after the overthrow of the CPP.
  
  I was in Legon during the 1979 elections and very active in student politics. I was one of the students recruited by a lecturer in the Statistics Dept to carry out a survey of the impending polls, which made us aware that the PNP was going to win One Touch. I handled the Keta and Anlo constituencies and therefore heard from the people why they were supporting the UNC and the other parties. Busia and his PP's exploits against Ewes were clearly very paramount in deciding even conservative Anlos who didn't like the CPP and the off-shoot PNP to support the UNC.
  
  And I was in Ghana and visiting Ho in 1990 when the people of the VR voted against the one party idea of the PNDC. The PNDC wasn't popular at all in Ho! However, the anti-Ewe campaign and insults of Ewes gradually drove Ewes to vote for the NDC as the lesser of the two devils. I personally asked some Ewe elite I knew to be very much anti-PNDC why they voted for the NDC, as I was once again in Ghana when the 1992 elections took place? I had already narrated in my article how I got insulted "basabasa" and threatened to be sent to the Dzelukope Police Station for being mistaken for a Quarshiga hireling who had joined "the you know what" people to come and kill them (Ewes). Of course, we knew about their dastardly plans long before they started saying it on public platforms. So how on earth can Ewes be expected to support a party whose credo is all anti-Ewe diatribes, vilifications, demonisation and what not?

  The NPP was incubated in late 1991 and early 1992 by the Danquah Busia Club (DBC) that the late mouthpiece of "Asante hegemony" (Attakora-Gyimah of Nkukuo Buoho, near Offinso, and the Editor/Managing Director of the Ashanti Pioneer, Kumasi) formed with the full backing of the Ashanti university dons at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, prominent businessmen, chiefs, and lawyers, not to forget the clergy of Ashanti descent.
  
  My friend, I saw everything that needed to be seen, especially in their so-called cell meetings at the K.O. Methodist Park, Kejetia in Kumasi, the Catholic Social Centre (because Akwasi Sarpong, then Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese had given them his blessing just as the now-senile Rev. Samuel Asante Antwi (then, the head of the Kumasi Circuit of the Methodist Church, did). They used the aegis of the Kumasi Youngsters Club in Adom, Kumasi, and many other spots for their clandestine anti-Rawlings agenda. That was before the ban on partisan politics was lifted by Rawlings on May 18, 1992.
  
  At none of the meetings did anybody from northern Ghana, an Ewe, Fante, or others make any showing to be accepted as a pillar. Of course, after the DBC had become the NPP, moves were made to co-opt others from other parts of Ghana, which explains why the NPP is what it has been all along.
  
  A fundamental question: If the founders of the NPP knew that those of Northern Ghana descent (encapsulated by SD Dombo) were an integral part of their cabal, why did they close the doors to them at the initial stages? Why was their seed called DANQUAH-BUSIA CLUB?
  
  Useless people trying to fight the wind!! We know them in their Asante-Akyem coloration and will continue to laugh at their desperate efforts to blindfold people in search of support and validation to become a national party, which it cannot be because of what it is designed to be.

  The UP was just a marriage of convenience against Nkrumah. After the overthrow of Nkrumah, the constituent groups went their separate ways.
  
  Busia was big in the Volta Region in the early 60s. By 1969, Voltarians didn't recognise him any longer as having anything to do with them because of the "virulent anti-Ewe campaigns of the PP" - in Andy's words. Voltarians didn't forget this in 1979 and voted massively for Limann rather than Victor Owusu.
  
  The sentiments were not forgotten during the PNDC era. I will say that they have still not been forgotten till today...
  
  If we are to be one country with the same clichéd destiny, then no tribe will want to claim to be better than the others only because they happen to be more in number than the others... It won't work that way. All of us have to be in this TOGETHER - something Nkrumah tried very hard to impress on all of us!

  The reason why you do not have Gas and Ewes and most northerners, and some Fantis etc. identifying with NPP is your people try to prove all the time that you own Ghana as a birth right. The question is, who wants to be around that? It is as simple as that sir.
  
  Talk to your people to change their attitudes and maybe just maybe you might attract some lonely soul one day. Look at the way NPP show their respect to dissenting voices in their mist. Who wants to be in a party that generally thinks that the part interest is more important than the country in which the live? Just think about it.

The NDC stopped referring to the NPP as such since 2008(5yr ago).Akans occupies 5 out of the 10 regions in Ghana and if you are truly an Akan party, you would have won every election in this country especially under the forth republican dispensation.The NPP can well be discribed as an Asante/Akyim party and not Akan in totality.The following analysis justifies the above assertion:Since we started voting in this country in February, 1951, is it coincidence that all leaders/flagbearers of the UP tradition are from Akan descent? (predominantly Asante/Akyem?).J.B Danquah(an Akyem/Akan) was the leader of the UGCC in the 1951 election.Dr K.A. Busia(A Brong/Akan) was the leader of the Ghana Congress Party(GCP) in the 1964 election.Baffour Akoto Osei(An Ashanti/Akan)was the leader of the NLM in the 1956 election.The first presidential election after Ghana gained republican status was in 1960 and in that election, the United Party(UP) was led by J.B.Danquah(An Akyem/Akan). Mr J.A.Kuffour(An Ashanti/Akan) was the leader of the party in 1996.He was again the leader of the party in year 2000.He won the election and was the leader again in the 2004 election.The NPP was led by Nana Addo(An Akyem/Akan)in the 2008 election.He led the party again in the 2012 election and lost for the second time;fortunately for him, he has been elected again for the 2016 election.So Nana, if your party is a national one as you claimed why is that nobody outside the Akan clan had ever become the leader? Apart from Busia all the other leaders are either an Akyem or an Ashanti.This is the reason why the NPP since 2008 had won only 2 Regions out of the 10 and coincidentally these regions are Ashanti and Eastern which is the home regions of the Ashantis and the Akyems respectively. Ghanaians are interested in what is happening on in fact not what exist on paper. A great man does not profess to the world how great he is before he can be seen as a great man. Your actions will show whether you are indeed tribal. NDC shall continue in full vim so long as
  it remains a national political party. Nobody in his right state of mind will associate with a group of people who treat you you as an inferior being. In fact let me stop here before my emotions run high...

I wonder whether how Komla Agbeli Gbedema was removed from a parliament dominated by the Busia-led Progress party. And what about the confrontation between Agama and Victor Owusu in parliament? The sacking of over 500 Ewe civil servants by Busia? Then in recent times, the so-called owners of Ghana decided to attribute Rawlings' excesses during the revolution to all Ewes. People claiming to be spokespersons for the NPP formation made all kinds of threats against all Ewes. Notorious in this category is Kennedy Agyapong's ourtbursts against Ewes and Gas. And when that happened all the NPP hierarchy went mumu.
  
  Would you believe it that during the independence and republican elections the only place where JB Danquah beat the CPP was in the then Anlo South Constituency? Yet today, NPP hardly gets more than a few tens of votes!!! Why is that?
  
  I can go on and on, but the crux of the matter is that majority of Ewes feel threatened by the posturing of the very voluble Akan extremists in the NPP.
  
  The NPP has a mountain to climb to get out of the hole it has planted itself in. I don't envy them and would not waste my breath on them.
