If this man is a real gem, why will he allow the Nigerians to erect their campaign billboards in Ghana? What is the work of the Interior Minister? Also, if he thinks that establishing a military school or whatever in that part of Ghana will ebb the conflict between the two warring faction, I will tell him in plain terms that that is the most dumbest thing ever to do.
No one can force two warring faction to have peace but they themselves. Try to impose some stupid "will" on them and eventually, it will explode like a volcano from within. Nkonya and Alavanyo can smoke peace pipe through tit-a-tit talks. They know the real issue bothering them and it requires people with deep thinking to settle the dispute.
If NDC is using the military school as the final solution, will they do the same to any conflict anywhere in the nation? Poor leaders always come out with poor decision and NDC is no stranger to that.

For Bokor nothing case and nobody can solve any problem anywhere. He is the probably the (only and) best person who has solution to every problem in Ghana. Meanwhile he is a Togolese!

Sometimes when we doubt something or not sure of something we need to consult people to see if they know instead of putting wrong information out here.
This conflict has been there for many decades and government is trying to find solution to it which we should give a chance and pray for it to work instead of rushing to criticize without saying what is the best solution to the conflict.
Why we have a problem with something that may even help the people in terms of employment?
Please, allow the government and the people to find solution to this conflict that has taken many lives.

Some of us find this too known attitude strange and irritating. The biggest culprits are Okoampa, Bokor and Adofo who shoot their mouths as soon as they read something with "Ghana" in it!
They say Bokor's father was headmaster at Peki secondary school yet he doesn't seem to know how Peki relates to Awudome. I doubt if he knows where Nkonya is...

You're right too that the conflicts made the areas well known all over Ghana. They've been on and off for decades. They say even the late musician, Ephraim Amu, was also involved on one of the sides.
Anyway, Peki and Awudome are traditional areas comprising small villages. The Ewe they speak is quite similar and both areas had always been part of the former Gold Coast.
Nkonya and Alavanyo are also traditional areas comprising small small villages. But Nkonya people don't speak Ewe or learn to speak it with an accent since they have their own language. All Alavanyo people are Ewe speakers pure and pure. Both areas were part of the erstwhile TVT that became Ghana just before our independence with Alavanyo people violently resisting the incorporation into Ghana. Just btw...
The two disputes are intractable which is why I think you're right, Corney, when you suggest that people should give the new govt policy the chance to work (rather than shooting off their mouths by heart...).

I don't think the Government should be given ownership of any land because it does not have the interest of the people at heart. Even Rawlings who instituted this canker that enables people to claim ownership of land with military backing has many houses and cars while people are sleeping in their kiosks. No one sleeps in the open in the villages for lack of housing. Any move towards landownership by the Government must be a move toward Communism. As for these age old conflicts that my late grandparents used to talk about will cease when people realize how lucky they are to have the little that they have.

Mr man how do want the situation to be resolved? Whiles all measures put in place to resolve this atrocious act has proven futile.we can just sit down as a nation and watch some barbaric people putting people's life danger ???? for just a piece of uncultivated land. Some of us are in support of the government using any means possible to resolve this agonizing canker ,so Mr man you can't sit outside and be throwing stones to the field.

What "appropriate mechanisms" re you referring to? If for nearly a Century no government has succeeded in resolving the issue through dialogue, don't you think it is because of 'blind following' through the generations and lack of will on the part of the protagonists to give peace a chance? And all because of this piece of land between them?
I support the government's move to essentially take over the land (because our constitution allows that to be the case) and to use it for purposes that will serve us whilst at the same time ensuring that they will have no land to fight over. It will also bring much needed development to the area.
Does this mean the end of the peaceful dialogue to find a permanent solution? Certainly not. That process should go on and especially the youth and newer generations should be educated and weaned off this bitterness and think more about how to develop their 'patch'.
I don't see why you are mixing this with the Bundase military base. If the government decides that it will use the land at Bundase to build an airport which will benefit all of us, not least the communities in the immediate vicinity themselves who will no doubt benefit economically, what is this issue about the locals 'agitating'?
You need to think this over again and you will realise that the decision in this case which is unique in itself compared to many other more complex disputes, this approach can (and I hope will) making a lasting difference. Any future government who may decide to "change the new arrangements" will have to have very good reasons to do so, don't you think?

Recent media reports on the Vice President’s visit to Kpando in connection with the Nkonya and Alavanyo conflict make interesting reading. It was widely reported that, the government intends to take the land for use by the military, as a lasting solution to the protracted conflict.
There is no denying the fact that government has the power to appropriate any land anywhere in the country for any national agenda. It may be by compulsory or negotiated acquisition albeit by paying fair compensation to the land owners.
The question one may be tempted to ask is, “To whom will government pay the appropriate compensation if it is failing to make a pronouncement on who is the rightful owner of the land?
If you seize a piece of bread from one mother’s baby and eat it because another woman’s baby is crying for that same piece, you will only double the cries of the babies and elicit a fight from the mother who bought the bread for her baby.
Ghana prides herself to be among the nations that practice the rule of law. The boundary dispute had been judicially settled as far back as 1959 where the Appeal Court judge, Sir Granville Sharp pronounced that the defendants (Alavanyos) are estopped per rem judicatam from ever raising again the question about their boundary. For how long should the time and resources of the state be wasted on conflict management because the losing party has resorted to acts of impunity, lawlessness, intransigence, banditry, and pronouncements in contempt of the courts’ rulings?
This solution proffered will surely reduce our rating on the Ibrahim Mo Index for Rule of Law and Governance.
The state is enjoined by the 1992 Constitution to protect law abiding citizens for the peaceful enjoyment of their property rightfully, acquired.
The Government should find the people who are disturbing the peace of this country and deal severely with them once and for all so as to serve as deterrent to other similar-minded citizens.
Why do we have to go to court if the state cannot ensure that court decisions are respected by the parties?
