  Yes Francis, Dr Christian Kow Gharban was at KNUST and graduated in Electrical Engineering with First Class, thence to Imperial College for his Phd. He designed new power systems in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Papua New Guinea etc. He is a genius. We have not met since 1977 but get news about him through another friend.   Short sited and greedy politicians are the bane of the problems we face. There should be no reason TOR should be reduced to a storage facility for imported refined oil. It is clear somebody crafted this policy to enrich a few friends at the expense of the many. We need a selfless visionary to lead us into energy self sufficiency. What the current crop of leaders are now doing is giving out oil leases to Nigerians I know as loaves of bread to enrich themselves. We will remain in the dark for a long time. Thanks for your brilliant piece.

  OUR COMMENT: More than enough contemporary Ghanaians, particularly the so-called leaders, are unable to tell the difference between faith and fact. Mr. Mahama, for instance will talk miles about "divine interventions". But, you will never hear him using the other side of his mouth to seriously push science, knowledge, and rational thought as the foundations needed for the development of Ghana, (i.e. solving problems).
  
  Ask Mr. Mahama and folks like him to explain how/why rain falls!
  
  Case in point. Recently, I ran into a Ghanaian in an environment where science and technology are the primary forces for the US businesses, government agencies and contractors, in this case. I was shocked to hear from that individual that he believes in creationism, not evolution.
  
  That's one for you!
  
  ITEM: On the topic, good news is, the price of solar power systems are coming down. But, the young, up-and-coming people (and students) ought to be able to understand the principles behind that form of power, among the other alternative power forms. Sustainability is the key.
  
  I am a social scientist by training and inclination. Therefore, this essay is a good reminder of alternative thoughts, more verifiable, objective, and useful. It is be no means "eclectic" in total. It is these types of information and forms of thought that we must push and push!
