No wonder you guys are living in the USA and you do not know what time it is in Ghana. If you were that objective you would question the registers at Manyhia, Bantama, Old and New Tafo but because you always were tribal lenses you will not do that. The npp has lost the 2016 elections even before it commences. The party is stuck in the past and cannot look into the future. Instead of going to the people and explaining what they can do and letting the people know the challenges the current government is facing and what they can do better, they fighting a register. This is a sign of a desperate party. Fonaa USA please, if you really want nana to be president, come down a campaign for him and living in your ivory towers .

Wofa Yaw, I hope you're not suffering from selective myopia. If you cared much about the peace and stability of the nation you'd have taken a stern look at the statistical numbers provided by FONAA-USA and validate or challenge those numbers. Men lie but numbers don't lie. The population is 25 million Ghanaians and out of this number 10 million are under the age of 14 years. This simply means 15 million "citizens" are 15 years and older. If we have a voters register of 14 million people it simply means the 14 million are 18 and above. 1 million are between 15 and 17 years old. I believe this is inaccurate. 14 million registered voters representing 56 per cent of the population is unrealistic. If you think differently say what's on your mind and prove the numbers wrong. Calling people names is not the solution to this problem. Burying our heads in the sand is equally insane.
You must be aware that ghost names and multiple entries is not a new phenomenom in Ghana. Even government pay vouchers are full of ghost names. Cleaning the voters register will not favor any political party and it won't cost us a lot of money. Nations have gone to war because of issues with election malpractices and disputed election results. Ghana deserves better and we should do everything in our power to avert the calamities of war. 2012 election dispute was settled in court. 2016 is just around the corner. Think about it. We may not be twice lucky.

If truly the Voters Register has been bloated, then the question is, who did that and where lies the guarantee that it won't be repeated if a new Voters Register is opened? Is the so-called Fonaa-USA telling us that the Voters Register is bloated only in the areas where it is deemed to be the strongholds of their political opponents?
In fact, it is high time the NPP and its sympathizers looked critically and objectively at the factors that have been robbing the party of electoral victory and stop those silly excuses.
Better keep quiet, Fonaa-USA, for our eardrums have become so sore with the myriad of excuses from your desperate party and its desperate flag bearer, who wants to become President of Ghana at all costs.

The solution to all the problems with the so called bloated voter register is to register every citizen of the country Ghana. This will correspond with the true number of eligible voters and leave out foreigners. Many countries in Africa have seen the need to settle this once and for all but in Ghana it is still a matter of contention, why?.We cannot continue this way and think all is well.

You must understand that the EC opens new voters register before every fresh general elections.I am sure that the EC will come for new eligible voters to register and the old ones to check their names in the regester. In this case, those who could not come to check their names may be disqualified to vote.It is the responsibility of political parties to play active role during the registration excercise. They must make sure that all the names in the register correspond with persons who come to validate their registration.Whoever did not show up during the excercise must be disqualified automatically, maybe the person is dead, sick, travelled or moved from one constituency to another. This is the responsibility of the political class and not the EC.Thank you.

We have been hearing about a bloated electoral register for quite some time now. The leader of the opposition NPP and his members somehow seem to be the only ones who continue to make this argument (recently backed by some clergy) and one wonders why other political parties have not followed suite.
In your attempt to make an argument for the position of Nana Akuffo Addo on the matter, you claim the facts from Census data back your claim. I disagree and here is why:
According to index Mundi Ghana Demographic Profile 2014 (and you can check this online by googling index mundi), here is the breakdown of Ghana population estimates in 2014 according to age and sex:
Age structure
65 years and over: 4.1% (male 489,566/female 565,052) (2014 est.)
According to Index Mundi, the annual population growth rate is 2.19% per annum.
I decided to do some sums myself to give me a sense of where we are and whether Nana Addo has a case:
The sums show that the problem is not with the 25 to 65+ age groups who total 10,996,272 (both male and female). That is 10 million, nine hundred and ninety six thousand and two hundred and seventy two.
The question relates to the 15 to 24 age group who make up 4,829,602 (male and female) i.e. four million, eight hundred and twenty nine thousand and six hundred and two.
Doing my rough sums on the premise that the annual population growth rate is 2.19% i.e. 0.0219, that for the age group 15-24 yrs equals 105,768 persons for each age group in that bracket i.e. 15, 16, 17, 18, etc to 24 years.
If the minimum voting age is 18 years in Ghana, then we should exclude those aged 15, 16 and 17 years old. 105,768 multiplied by 3 equals 317,304 persons to be excluded because they do not qualify by age criteria.
Therefore those aged 18, 19, 2o, 21, 22, 23 and 24 years are estimated to be 4,512,298 i.e. 4 million, five hundred and 12 thousand and two hundred and ninety eight persons aged 18 to 24 years.
Now, let's add those 25 years to 65+ and those aged 18 to 24 years. That gives us 10,996,272 + 4,512,298. The total number of people in the eligible age for voting between 18 years and 65 years plus equals 15,508,570 i.e. fifteen million, five hundred and eight thousand and five hundred and seventy persons.
According the electoral commissioner, 14 million people (or thereabouts) are on the voters' register. However the total number ELIGIBLE to vote is 15 million, five hundred plus.
Now, we all know that it is not all those who qualify to vote who actually do register to vote and therefore we can argue that the extra 1 million plus who are currently NOT on the voters' register are people who for one reason or another have either not bothered to get registered or are out of jurisdiction e.g. Ghanaians in the diaspora (emigration) many of whom may not register to vote because they cannot travel to do so, plus deaths.
In the light of this calculation based on the estimates provided for Ghana's 2014 population and on the assumption of a growth rate of 2.19% per annum and also assuming that for each age group, the numbers can be split evenly, I am inclined to believe the electoral commissioner's figures, not what Nana Addo is saying.
Further hint - Ghana's MEDIAN age is 20.8 years (20.4 for males and 21.3 for females). Net migration is also 2.13 per 1000 of the population which will support my assumptions for nearly 1.5 million people not being on the voter register.
FOURTEEN MILLION ON THE VOTER REGISTER IS A SOUND AND PLAUSIBLE FIGURE.
I challenge those who have a problem with these figures to do their sums and let's compare notes.

Instead of using annual growth rate as a basis for exclusion of the 15, 16 and 17 year group, I have chosen instead to divide the total 15 to 24 year age group population by 10, to give us a generous 482,960 for each of the ages, assuming that the distribution is equal in all 10 ages.
so, 482,960 multipled by 3 equals 1.448,880 i.e. one million, four hundred and forty eight thousand and eigth hundren and eighty persons in ages 15, 16 and 17.
Subtract 1,448,880 (15-17 yr) from 4,829,602 (15-24 yr) and you get 3,380,721 i.e. three million, three hundred and eighty thousand and seven hundred and twenty one.
Add 3,380,721 (18 to 24 yrs) to 10,996272 (25+ years) and this equals 14,376,993 i.e. fourteen million, three hundred and seventy six thousand and nine hundred and ninety three people eligible to vote.
If we then take into account the points I made earlier i.e. those who have not registered for various reasons i.e. about 376,993 people i.e. three hundred and seventy six thousand, nine hundred and ninety three people.
This makes the Electoral Commission's voter register figure plausible and challenges the basis of Nana Akuffo Addo's and other critics' argument.

Factually speaking, there would be no need to compile a new register if presiding officers were honest to do diligent work. That means they would electronically verify voters and only those verified could be allowed to vote, so that only those votes could count. However, with the issue of over voting where it has been defined as the number of valid votes cast exceeding the number on the register, the presiding officer can collude with a particular party and fill in the names of those who have died and the sick who could not vote since all that is needed is to ensure the votes do not exceed the register. This is where the problem lies.

With the kind of intellectual dishonesty, blatant disregard for principles and refusal to use any of the valuable lessons learned or acquired in the USA, members of FONAA-USA have shown themselves not to be worthy of wisdom but a collection of wasted brain cells who contribute to the retardation of progress, political and social, in Ghana.
FONAA-USA can be an advocacy group and can even be full fledged zealots of the gutter level kind but cannot use their USA location to pollute the minds of the semi-educated and uneducated readers in Ghana who continue to believe they should buy into the crap from Ghanaians in the Diaspora because they know best.
