It is yet to occur to Ghanaians that successful nations do have government institutions that are independent of government interferences; they are effective and efficient and a society ruled by best practices and procedures where love and order is a norm and majority of citizens have love for country. What do we have in Ghana that shows adherence to prescribed best practices and procedures? Fires in Ghana, by and large, are caused by and accelerated by building structures that have no known inspections by qualified inspectors during construction, electrical systems installed by unlicensed electricians, incoming source of electricity that may not be sanctioned by EC and a community full of land development without roads, standard alleys for escape or access not to mention nonexistent infrastructures of sewage and drainage systems, telecommunications or water drainage systems. Yet it is more likely that there is no home in Ghana where some do not carry multiple cellular phones.
Yes never again is indeed appropriate here but Ghana and Ghanaians hate standard and even the rich, educated and politically connected want things on the cheap never mind quality or rules. It is our governments past and present that signed a contract to have government office fitted with computer network cabling and hardware systems but never bothered about quality work and or industry standards. Ministry building exterior walls were drilled without fire or standard caulking to prevent access by rats and other rodents into the buildings while the use of outdated swithing gear was accepted for the project just as long as someone can claim the price was low.
If we care about life in Ghana we must let our actions, practices and procedures show because we have not done or shown through our actions that Ghanaian life matter.
