  What ever the writer said about prophet Mohammed's tolerance is rather the opposite. In Islamic theology, the concept of white-washing Islam or using deception on unbelievers with the aim of converting them is often referred to as taiqqya or tuiqqya. I'm not sure you are a muslim and so you may have been a victim of taiqqya to have said what you said about Mohammed. I was also once a victim until I independently verified what I was told about Islam.

Black boys between the age of 8 and 12 had their scrotums and penises completely amputated to prevent them from reproducing. About six of every 10 boys bled to death during the procedure, according to some sources, but the high price brought by eunuchs on the market made the practice profitable.

  A Muslim slaveholder was entitled by law to the sexual enjoyment of his slave women. Filling the harems of wealthy Arabs, African women bore them a host of children.
  
  This abuse of African women would continue for nearly 1, 200 years.

  You need to recognise the context of what people like the Pope were trying to get across. Of course you should not offend other people's religion however much you disagree with it or abhor it.
  
  Are you aware that at one time in history, people were burnt alive for blasphemy against Christianity even in Europe?
  
  I would say the Pope was being honest, even if you disagree with him. he was being human and expressing what is the truth for most of us. Would you rather a religious leader who speaks the truth and has no personal agenda except the wider public good or those who stand behind the pulpit to play politics?
  
  Sometimes we need to take a back seat, take stock, reflect. Of course the Pope QUALIFIED his statement and analogy and was mainly trying to press home the point that many of the conflicts we are confronted with in the world arise from simple things like people trying to OFFEND others.
  
  Even in your own domestic situation, you are one of the people who are quick to hurl insults on people on this very forum for being critical of what you say. Yet you think that others are guilty of "double-speak". I find it very worrying when people cannot simply see the frail human nature in themselves, but can see the faults of others. We are all human, prone to error and mostly influenced by our emotions, you being a classic example of that.
  
  You just told us, you were losing a debate, so you decided to 'cheat' by provoking your opponent on an issue which probably had nothing to do with the debate. Debates are intellectual arguments. Why would you bring in religious bigotry just top offend your opponent so, you will win the debate? Do you see the error in that?
  
  Let us always strive to be reflective, honest and above all recognise our human nature and frailties. If we do that and are tolerant of others, the world would be so much of a better place for all of us. Would you agree?
