Good job repoter! My questions are, 1)'where are the entry points of these banned harmful chemicals into the country'
2)Some western manufacturing companies must also seriously be held accountable.

This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Sometime last year I read from this website a similar story from the Western Region of Ghana. It appears there are no regulatory bodies in Ghana and the fishermen are having a field day. If they do exist they're just in the name only. This is a serious health risk but no one in the government seems to care. And why is nobody taking the ministry responsible for fishing and the regulatory body to task or better still to court? Ghana! How bad does it get before heads begin to roll? Is this also part of the Better Ghana Agenda?

This assertion of using carbide and DDT for fishing is not only dubious and unsubtabtiated but ridiculous. The only evidence supplied in this article is the word of a fisherman. No photos or physical evidence of a practice that simply makes no sense whatsoever. DDT is an insecticide that would have no immediate effects on fish however it may be used.DDT has been known to accumulate in fish as a result of agricultural runoff yet even then is seldom known to kill fish. It is also rather expensive and hard to find especially for a fisherman living on the shores of Lake Volta.
The use of 'Carbide' to poison fish makes even less sense than using DDT . I'm not sure which carbide is being referred to here but carbide on its own simply does not exist. Examples of common carbide are calcium carbide, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide none of which are toxic nor could be used to kill fish.
Perhaps the investigative journalist that wrote this article should do a little research on these substances and their chemical properties rather than simply printing the questionable claims of fishermen that are known to say just about anything to whoever will listen.
