This Kwarteng boy is the same hypocrite who sing the praises of Cuba but will not live there but instead cooling his socialist soul on the East Coast of USA, a country that has made it possible for him to take care of his family back in Ghana.
What is interesting about these Nkrumah apologists is that, now they believe whatever is written by this Mahoney guy, an American but other books and articles written by people from USA and Britain that are not favourable to Nkrumah's government are thrashed by these same people as imperialist propaganda.
Even if J.B Danquah worked with CIA to get rid of that tyrrant, we should thank him and the CIA for getting rid of that despot and his tyrannical government.
Nkrumah got what he deserved. He plotted for the overthrow of other African leaders and karma turned on him.
Anytime you read these articles from Nkrumah apologists, try to find out which one of them are living in Cuba or North Korea. These people are like the characters in animal farm fable. They praise the communist and socialist systems as if it is utopia but they themselves will not live there but will rather live in "satanic" imperialist

Idiot, do you understand English? Did you read what I said? I said even if J.B Danquah. The fact that these Nkrumah apologists are saying Mahoney book said he was a CIA Agent without quoting what the book stated shows there might not be a definite evidence. Kwarteng is even quoting Akyiah Mensah's article to back his assertion up. Why is he not quoting from Mahoney's book? Some of you are too dense to have a discourse with.

I have been challenged by Francis Kwarten to explain line by line what Dr. Kwame Botwe-Asamoah said in his three-part series that confirms our claim, even remotely, that Nkrumah was a communist that cunningly and dishonestly used the UGCC platform as a cover to work against the group from within, and in the end stabbed them from behind to take power. Although the series were used by FK to rebut our argument, we actually found them to be in support of our position. Therefore, the following excerpts are only from Dr. Asamoah's Three-part series entitled, Kwame Nkrumah: The ONE and ONLY Founding Father of Ghana -2014 Independence Day Special..
UGCC MISTAKENLY HIRED A PAN-AFRICAN COMMUNIST
"The fact is Nkrumah initially was reluctant to accept the offer as he perceived the UGCC members to be “bourgeois reactionaries” enamored in capitalist ideology and philosophy." "Secondly, he, as the General-Secretary of West African National Secretariat, as well as Chairman of “The Circle,” was at the time busy working on a West African National Conference towards a Union of West African Socialist Republics, slated to be held in Lagos in October 1948."
CONSPIRACY HATCHED IN LONDON TO SABOTAGE UGCC
"Nonetheless, after meeting with his comrades in the West African National Secretariat, it was decided that Nkrumah should accept the offer and return to operationalize the 1945 Manchester Pan-African Congress resolutions. Nkrumah assured them that he would not compromise with the reactionaries and reformists in the UGCC (Smertin)"
UGCC SENSES DANGER (THEY HAVE PATAKU (Wolf) IN THEIR MIDST)
"They (UGCC) brought many charges against Nkrumah based on differences in vision, ideology, philosophy and strategy. One was the word “Comrade” in one of Nkrumah’s letters Obetsebi Lamptey and William Ofori Attah had confiscated from Nkrumah’s office in Saltpond. They quizzed him about the word comrade, since they found it to be synonymous with Communism. Second. The Working Committee accused Nkrumah of acting outside his authority…" "They blamed Ako Adjei for his role in recommending Nkrumah to the group." "Dr. J. B. Danquah wept saying that he would not have supported the recommendation by Ako Adjei, had he (Danquah) known of Nkrumah’s ideological persuasion."
SECRET NETWORK IN THE NAME OF UGCC TO OUTFOX ITS LEADERSHIP
"The (UGCC) Working Committee accused Nkrumah of establishing a Youth Study Group at youth movement with the Ashanti Youth Association and the Ghana Youth Association of Sekondi, and become known as the Committee on Youth Organization (CYO).The CYO, Nkrumah explained to the Working Committee, was to serve as the youth wing of the UGCC, yet they still objected to its formation. They found the CYO’s manifesto, “Self-Government Now” a threat to the program of the UGCC, “Self-Government within the shortest possible time.”… All the while, Nkrumah and his Comrades were working on turning the CYO into a political party." And that was the origin of the CPP party.

The lunacy of these Nkrumaist, the Afrocentric buffoons, know no bounds and beats my bewilder imagination. What is more insane than the Afrocentric accusing his colleagues of ethocentrism? And that is what Nkrumah and his die hard dimwits stood for. He spent his whole life trying to pitch the black race against the white. His countenances and utterances were so annoying to the civilized community. " the Blackman is capable of managing his own affair", yet the Russians and the Chinese were feeding him with security intelligence. In fact, Nkrumah was such a walking contradiction that he was. No wonder he was so popular and enjoying massive/landslide victory in the then Gold Coast where the literacy rate was way-way under 10%. This alone justifies why he became so more popular among the so called "veranda boys" than the elite. If Kwarteng and Appiah doubt this, then the question they should ask themselves is why the remnants of Nkrumahs CPP constitute only about 3% of the voting population in much discerning Ghana of today where the literacy rate hovers somewhere around 70%. I have said it one too many times that it is always plausible to use one's imagination, gumption and discernible conscience to know facts from fiction( common sense) than to rummage through other people's work( most of them absolutely trash, incoherent and outright lies ," Kwaku Ananse stories " which defy every logic) in such of the truth. Can you imagine that, the bible says, Jesus fed about 5000 people with only 5 loafs of bread and two pieces of fish, and the leftover was about 12 baskets full? And these are the things Kwarteng and the Nkrumahs' deranged bigots want us to believe.

All I have gleaned is the uneasiness and apprehension that characterized Danquah's dealings with Nkrumah which in more ways that one steered the two men towards an unpleasant and devastating confrontation.

Sarpong, the declassified CIA documents affirm a 'special' relationship existed between the US Embassy and Danquah upon which his family was regularly paid by the USA.
This alone suffices for a reasonable suspicion by all Nationalists who feared the CIA had been collaborating with Danquah to get rid of Nkrumah. What has been bothering me, personally, on that assumption is the question as to why only Danquah, and not any other member of the Opposition incarcerated, was paid that subvention by the Americans.
I am not sure if the CIA declassified documents on this topic are still accessible. I would suggest you dive in yourself to have a first-hand knowledge of what they contain.
I lent my personal copies to a friend who never returned them. But I would soon, at the earliest opportunity, try to access them again.
Meanwhile, I think it is time for us all to desensitize ourselves from those horrible, dark days in Ghana, and refrain from reviving the animosities between Danquah and Nkrumah among us, today. That proxy war is needless and could only prolong our divisiveness and national growth.
No one side should stake a claim for greater intelligence or patriotism than the other, and thereby scheme to keep the other from affecting the process of developing Ghana.
If the USA could heal itself from its Civil War and assemble ideas from both the South and North to ensure her growth, why can't we emulate that, instead of undermining each other with hollow claims of piety?
The funny thing about the declassified documents is that huge patches of them were still concealed under heavy black ink, redacted to keep the full truth away from the Public. Would you not wonder about what the CIA still hid under those blotches of black ink?
Long Live Ghana!!!

If Danquah was being helped by the USA through the CIA, it was because he believed in the capitalist system and Nkrumah was also getting aid from USSR. Ghanaian students were getting scholarships to USSR to imbibe socialist ideas and USA did likewise through other means to get a foothold in Africa.

In 1950, the UK had 35 colonies spread throughout the world. The qualifications for independence were given as: economic self-sufficiency, sound finance, a country with dedicated, experienced and honest politicians, jurists and administrators.
The only problem was that no one was certain how long it would take to get these. A 1954 cabinet report predicted that the Gold Coast, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanganyika, Uganda, Nyasaland, North and Southern Rhodesia, West Indies and Malaysia would be fit for self-rule by 1975 at the earliest.
In 1955, the UN Trusteeship Committee suggested that Tanganyika could be ready for independence in 1980. As for Kenya, no time table was set because of its then troubles.
When Winston Churchill heard of the Gold Coast’s progress to self-government, he thought it was “crazy to give the vote to naked savages”.
Churchill was an arch imperialist who opposed Indian independence. Churchill loved the British Empire, the largest ever on earth and the only one on which the "sun never set". India was the so-called crown in the jewel of this empire and Churchill never wanted to let go.
If Nkrumah had not demanded Self-Government Now, only goodness knows when the Gold Coast would have become independent and the Gold Coast was one of the most advanced colonies in Africa.
Incidentally, Nkrumah adopted this same strategy to African Unity. He can be seen in one of his popular speeches to African heads of state saying that the continent should unite NOW, because tomorrow would be too late. Nkrumah was a Rapid Results man...

What was the purpose of this article? As educated and presumably enlightened Ghanaians mostly enjoying what other people have fought for, we owe it to our forebears and generations unborn to heal the rift in our country that has retarded its forward match for nearly sixty years. In fact because of this division, the nearly sixty years of independence has been a complete waste of human and natural resources for future generations to build on.
I find your quotation below most insulting to those gallant coastal people, particularly Fante scholars, who dedicated their resources and lives to fight colonialism.
“For whereas Nkrumah challenged the STATUS QUO of the colonial order and sought to replace it with a novel socio-political order, his opponents, such as J.B. Danquah, sought to uphold the SATUS QUO ANTE of the colonial order, their political aim was to replace the colonial personnel with an African personnel while maintaining the COLONIAL SOCIAL STRUCTURE,”
Since you like cut and paste, here is something McLaughlin & Owusu-Ansah had to say. Does this sound like people who wish to remain in the status quo?
“Many of the economic and civil improvements in the Gold Coast in the early part of the current century have been attributed to Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, governor from 1919 to 1927” (McLaughlin & Owusu-Ansah (1994, "Economic and Social Development")
“As early as the latter part of the nineteenth century, a growing number of educated Africans increasingly found unacceptable an arbitrary political system that placed almost all power in the hands of the governor through his appointment of council members. In the 1890s, some members of the educated coastal elite organised themselves into the Aborigines' Rights Protection Society to protest a land bill that threatened traditional land tenure. This protest helped lay the foundation for political action that would ultimately lead to independence. In 1920 one of the African members of the Legislative Council, Joseph E. Casely-Hayford, convened theNational Congress of British West Africa, which sent a delegation to London to urge the Colonial Office to consider the principle of elected representation. The group, which claimed to speak for all British West African colonies, represented the first expression of political solidarity between intellectuals and nationalists of the area. Even though the delegation was not received in London (on the grounds that it represented only the interests of a small group of urbanised Africans), its actions aroused considerable support among the African elite at home.” (McLaughlin & Owusu-Ansah (1994, "Early Manifestations of Nationalism".)
You state, “What, then, is the basis for Prof. Sakyi’s stochastic if highly subjective exegesis of “self-government in the shortest possible time”? Is 10 years or more not at least 10 years which could as well have been eternity?”
Here is an extract form Danquah’s early 1965 petition to Kwame Nkrumah.
“Secondly, you will recall that barely a month after our detention in the North in 1948 we were brought down to Accra and released to appear before a Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the justice or otherwise of our arrest of our arrest and detention. We duly appeared before the Watson Commission and made history for Gold Coast and Ghana. It resulted in the finding that the Burns Constitution was outmoded at birth, with a recommendation that our country should attain its independence within ten years, and that a Constitutional Committee (the Coussey Committee) should be set up to lay down the foundations of such independence and the steps to be taken towards its attainment.”
Unless Base Ten is different in Socialism, “within ten years from 1948” would be 1958 at the latest. What have been the earth-shaking contribution of all you strident socialist academics to your own moribund CPP, not to talk of Ghana? Why can’t we leave our illustrious dead, whatever their political coloration alone, to rest in peace and begin to use our energies to do something worthwhile for Oman Ghana. It is these totally irrelevant distractions that have landed us with one of the filthiest capitals in the whole world!

Nkrumah was an impostor because his independence, freedom and justice were fake, his doctoral degree was fake at the time he joined the UGCC, his name was/is fake, his birthday is fake, his leadership was fake, his writings and ideology are fake because they belie his dictatorship, his friendship and loyalty were fake, his sermons were all fake.
Also, Nkrumah had no permanent achievements and no legacy: infrastructure is no achievement insofar as they are ephemeral. His style of leadership has been constitutionally abolished in Ghana; so he has no political legacy.
The foregoing reasons make Nkrumah an impostor for all intents and purposes.

I should use legacy here...Substitute the word "legacy" for achievements" for the sentence to read, "Infrastructure is no legacy because they are ephemeral" (meaning impermanent).
I am trying to argue that Nkrumah's legacy cannot be construed by dint of his infrastructural development. Rather, it should be construed by dint of his leadership.
Think about it: Nkrumah was elected on his promise of independence, freedom and justice. He even thought of the total liberation of the whole of the African continent. This was his promise to the people, and he should be judged by his performance on those promises.
This is more so because if we had asked the colonialists to keep us under bondage and develop our infrastructure for us, they would have performed far better than Nkrumah with the resources Nkrumah had. (Remember Guggisberg?)And they wouldn't have burdened us with brutal dictatorship as Nkrumah did. Remember there was due process in place which Nkrumah enjoyed but later abolished...
But we wanted the freedom and justice Nkrumah offered; and that is why the people supported him and constantly voted for him. Now you accept the people's vote and turn around to institute dictatorship because in your view, they are not mature enough to enjoy the freedom and justice for which they voted for you....
And so Nkrumah is a dictator (alleged by his minions to have valid reasons) who cannot have any legacy within a democratic dispensation. His infrastructure is no legacy. They are not even adequate as a great achievement given the unprecedented resources he inherited from the colonial government......
Today, the Danquah-Busia-Dombo democratic legacy is what will remain forever, while Nkrumah's own political tradition is anemic and on life support under the weak CPP leadership.

Francis, do you expect a different conclusion from a book written by a diehard Nkrumaist like Asamoa Botwe who used sources like Kojo Botsio and two colonels from the Presisential guard? Asamoah gives the following acknowlegments.
" I am also grateful to....His excellency Kofi Awonoor and the late Hon Kojo Botsio for sharing his personal working relationship with Osagyefor Dr Kwame Nkrumah and their insights on the subject matter of this project. My special thanks go to retired Colonel David Gbon Zanlenringu, former commander of the President Own Guard Regiment and Retired Colonel Kwasi Oteng also of the President Own Guard Regiment for sharing their personal knowledge regarding Nkrumah's logistical and material support to the African freedom fighters."
You see Francis, if I were to argue a case before Court and fail to cite cases against my position, I will not win. The best strategy is to cite those cases and attempt to distinguish them from the authorities I am relying on. This is what Nkrumaist scholars like you and Asamoah Bowtwe and fond of doing and I believe and this doesn't help your messiah. If I were to rely on pro Nkrumaist and Afrocentric scholars like Molefi Kente Asante, Kofi Awoonor, kofi Ayindoho, Kojo Botsio, Asamoa Botwe and you and others, I will also arrive at an erroneous conclusion that the founders of the UGCC were green behind the ears, were pro colonialist and did nothing towards the fight for independence. Have a good day, buddy.

It is funny how you fail to recognize your own recalcitrance to accept even incontrovertible documentary evidence but conveniently describe the Nkrumahists as mere faith-driven adherents refusing to employ their gumption.
Wouldn't that same description fit your stand? Most of your arguments pervading the numerous series you have written to demonize Nkrumah and elevate Danquah are simply affirmations of the precepts of theoretical perfectionism that have no particular reference to specific instances and contexts as they really existed then, and do now.
Anyone could rise up today and claim to be an ardent uncompromising advocate of Democracy and copiously write to cast much of what our ancestors did in the past in the most evil image. Hindsight could be always 20/20 and those casting that sight could always boast of knowing infinitely better than our predecessors. What saddens me, however, is your convenient and deliberate omission of pertinent facts that might prove your hindsight was not even 20/20 after all, if the natural lens in your eyes had been employed. You and many seem be using the current heightened global desire for Democracy to assess the depths of Nkrumah's dictatorial reign.
Nkrumah's dictatorship seems to have been the major source of discontent with his ruling. But you fail to honestly rein in the factors that drove him to that point. We all know that dictatorship is an aberration to the natural wishes of every human Society. Should we not discuss the reality of how Nkrumah was driven by the violence perpetrated by the UP folks to that wall?
Should we also not consider how folks in those days might not have worried as much of dictatorships as we are today because their time was not much removed from Centuries of subjugation by both local and external leadership entities leading up to our Independence?
In all your elucidating education on Democratic rights, not once did I see you refer to the despotic imposition of our Traditional rulers for condemnation, even as we still embrace that in large part.
Would that not be a mark of hypocrisy to silently accept such centuries-old Traditional loyalty to Stools and the dictatorial impositions they wield on us, while condemning the short-lived dictatorship of Nkrumah's?
You seem to be religiously indoctrinated and loyal to the Stools but hate that others show similar inclinations towards Nkrumahism. Remember, though, that much of what the ideologues hailing Nkrumah were doing was providing a mere environment that his ideals would thrive in. The hollow majestic appellations doled out on him were nothing more than mere propaganda, just as we heard George Walker Bush brag about the Spread of US Democracy in the Middle-East that would not accept the Muslim Brotherhood democratic rights to rule after winning their Election, and enthrone divisive, Iran-backed Maliki to discriminate against non-Shiites in Iraq.
Just a food for thought, Sir. Chew on it.

You have said nothing of substance here bro, except to acknowledge that Nkrumah was a dictator with a reason.
He was not ruling any different population to whom he promised freedom and justice. Those disturbances he cites for his imposition of dictatorship existed long before he returned to Ghana, and he used the same intruments of agitation for his ends.
Traditional rulers are illiterates, and not good examples for Nkrumah who was supposed to be enlightened and who promised the people independence.
You cast that evil genie out as the greatest African leader; now pray, explain to me how he became the greatest African leader.....
By doing what exactly? Uniting Africa under the worst leadership in the world and leaving a legacy of totalitarianism on the continent? What did Nkrumah do that is a good example in leadership anywhere?
I don't care who worships him or who builds a statue for him or who says what about him.
But I can tell you why he is the worst leader anywhere and everywhere. You tell me how he came to be the best leader in Ghana or in Africa.

You speak as if you have forgotten your law and as if if the law does not make exception for legal necessities.sometimes States or governments use the detention law on the grounds of ‘essential security interests’ or maintaining ‘public order. It happens in the western world and so to say there is no exception to due process in the western democracies must show your disingenuous you are.
Many things are done against the rule out of necessity and that is call exception to the rule. Necessity does not recognize any law and necessity creates its own law.It is the duty of parliament to recognize when to make the illicit licit to comply with the law in the interest of national security and order. So necessity has a role in law and once it has followed the parliamentary due process it is called the rule of law.Analyze and you will understand the role of necessity in law. When used as a law the state will use the doctrine of necessity as its defence or justification.

I think we can never settle this dispute because even if all evidence exist to prove one way or another what either side is saying about its iconic leader, the other side would still not accept the conclusive view.
So, why do we keep resurrecting this argument? The Danquahists must understand that they can never succeed in rewriting the Historically incontroversible facts, and the Nkrumahists must equally understand that the Danquahists would never embrace Nkrumah's contributions.
However, if either side were seeking votes for its contemporary leaders to ascend any high position nationally, it would need the help of some from the other side. That is an inescapable fact. So, why would any side keep antagonizing the other?
Given how the NPP is now gingerly perched with the embers of the feud between Alan's and Akufo-Addo's factions still alive, it makes no sense that Akufo-Addo's camp would revive the animosities that existed between its late leader, Danquah and the CPP folks.
Danquah's memory could have been better honored with a true olive-branch to the CPP which would included conceding any errors Danquah made as well. The forgiveness that Akufo-Addo offered Nkrumah's was poorly packaged to look as if Danquah was saintly and never did anything to hurt Nkrumah, and that Nkrumah was the demon that kept taunting Danquah till his death. Evidence abound to render any such claim for Danquah porous.
Both Nkrumah and Danquah hurt one another. Both were fallible and culpable in recorded efforts to annihilate the other, no matter what amount of adulations the supporters of each heap on him.
So, let us see these leaders as past enemies who died without getting the opportunity to forgive each other. If the progeny of both could see the wisdom to really concede the faults in both and honestly forgive the other, Ghana would be half-way towards real healing and significant growth.
Long Live Ghana!!!

List the errors Danquah made. Thereafter explain hoe these errors led to his incarceration without trial and eventual death.
Nkrumah was a traitor who joined the UGCC and used it to form the CPP. He incarcerated everyone of those who helped him to succeed, declared the nation one party state with himself as the president. He abolished freedom of the press and due process, collapsed the judiciary and poisoned the minds of the youth......
Now you his followers maintain that he ws a saint and claim that each side made a mistake. List the mistake the opposition made, and list the greater crimes of Nkrumah, and you will be digusted with yourself.
I can understand how the measly 3% votes regularly gained by the CPP could help the NPP come to power. But that will not be enough reason why some of us will cover the truth of the extreme wickedness of Nkrumah.
And in the end, we the anti-nkrumaists will win both the political and moral argument. History will strip Nkrumah naked as the most wicked leader in the whole of Africa.
