It is only a fool who will dispute this fact that aids will not solve our problems. At times, I laugh when we are branded as "third world country". What is the meaning of that? Ghana and African have what it takes to turn our fortunes around but.. If someone is giving you aid, the message is quite clear, "Stop thinking because help is just around the corner". How long has aids been coming to Africa and what is there to tell? There are those who will fall for such aid but to me, it is absolutely stupid. With all these resources, why should we even think of going for an aid? Recently, NDC was crying that "Donors" have withheld the support that they give to our budget. Isn't this a travesty after being independent for over fifth something years and still crying for someone to support our budget? Helloooo! what is wrong with us?
If we are still depending on donors support for our budget then, what is the rational for weaning ourselves off British rule?
Look, I have said before and will not stop saying that "we cannot rule ourselves for peace to prevail". Why? Because we are not prepared to change to do the right thing. The mere fact that we are refusing to allow the rule of law to extend its tentacles to arrest those who break it, means we are still crawling despite our fifty something years of age.

Good points, but I am afraid the problem is not just with the leaders. Even if you get the American leadership, or British or German or whatever developed country to rule Africa, if the common people also do not change, it will be the same.
Everybody should do their duty! At present even with the current leaders, if the police will enforce the law, if the judiciary will deliver justice, if teachers will teach as required, if doctors and nurses will work as prescribed, if all will do their duty, if students will study, if citizens will abide by the law, Africa, even with its present infrastructure could be like any developed country. If all services are being delivered to the right people by the common people, we would already be in paradise.
But I am afraid everybody wants the easy way. Not just leaders. All want to cut corners. Even I bet the writer of this article and all who are commenting would like to circumvent laws if need be. Suppose you import something into the country, you know the required import taxes, I bet you will still want to make a deal- bribe someone to avoid paying the required tax, if the opportunity is there. So let all Africans count the little misdeeds. They make a big difference.

Angelina,
What do you have up your sleeve this time around?
While the beginnings of your articles seem to hold a lot of promise and hence catch the attention and imagination of someone like me, it's the endings that I'm afraid of because they come out bland.... a disappointment, to say the least.
So whilst I like the beginning of this venture, I'm not going to hold my breath for the Part 2 just in case that also comes out flat just because of your hidden agenda of trying to turn all Ghanaians into Christ's incarnates.
My last comment on that said previous article of yours was along the same lines as this one, which is asking for a shift in attitude on the part of our leaders. I called it as "attitude adjustments" not only on the part of our leaders but also on the part of the common man/woman on the street.
It's very sad that the ordinary Joes on the street down realize that they are the electorate and that they hold the most powerful weapons in their hands come elections time. They seem to lose sight of the fact that their votes can make or break a country and therefore, sell them cheaply by taken a token bribe that comprises of 20 Cedis, a quarter bag of rice, a gallon of cooking oil and a sickly looking poultry farm chicken...from corrupt and thieving political party candidates.
The illiterate electorate sell their souls and the soul of the country to these devil politicians and I don't have to tell you what happens to any entity that sells its soul to the devil.
So I hope that the attitudinal shift I talked about would start with a very well-organized education of the Ghanaian electorates not to sell their souls to these loudmouth "Political Lucifers".
The power of the vote cannot and MUST NOT be taken for granted.
Now let's see what promise your part 2 holds.
Not holding my breath, though, Angie!!!

1st sentence of the 5th paragraph should read:
It's very sad that the ordinary Joes on the street DON'T realize that they are the electorate and that they hold the most powerful weapons in their hands come elections time.

Angelina, Keep on writing. Hopefully Africans will one day wake up to vote for people who really care about development of their countries.
At the moment Ghanaians blindly vote for parties instead of voting for honest individuals. Both major political parties are full of highly educated crooks, who parade as patriotic citizens but have no sense of social justice. They are pathologically greedy. They use their legal knowledge to enrich themselves, their relatives and close associates.
Developing the country for the benefit of the ordinary citizen is not in their agenda.
Your article may provoke Ghanaians to think CAREFULLY about whom they vote for.
CONGRATULATIONS for the wonderful article.
