Every Ghanaian cursed the day that this cunning, dishonest man was invited to join the UGCC as its secretary and he proved to be the mother of all traitors in Ghana. It was, therefore, legitimate and even desirable to get rid of that callous, one party state and president for life communist dictator. And I congratulate Kotoka and his friends once again for securing our true independence and delivering us from the grips of Nkrumah; one of the most dangerous human beings that ever lived on the African continent.

But at independence in 1957, Ghana was richer than Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia or Singapore. Today, those countries are at least ten times as wealthy.

We Danquists gathered to celebrate five decades since the prison death of our leader and patriot, Osagyefo Dr. J. B. Danquah, the true redeemer of the land who died in the cause of true freedom. But how could we talk of a prisoner without talking of his jailer or the circumstances of his incarceration without trials or his pleas to the one who imprisoned him? How could we talk of his ultimate sacrifice without describing the injustice meted out to him? Yet the Nkrumaists will not leave us, the Danquaists, to honor our hero. They must accuse him of terrible deeds and seek to dishonor his memory. Now, that was too much for us, the Danquaists. We had to answer them for their murder and treason and oppression.

Our elders say that a child who does not allow his parents to sleep will himself not sleep either. We are not going to sit down for these Nkrumaists to squeeze the eyeball of our true royal. We will let them eat the maggots.

Now the battle lines are drawn, and we will never rest until the truth is exposed. We will not cover up for the traitor who promised freedom and exchanged it for oppressions and claimed that his own people are too mature to enjoy the freedom. What is more, I now have this freedom which my forebears never had, and my daughter and son must know the truth and pass it down to my descendants.

And this was a person who had not been living in Iraq since 1999!

Why would the CIA rely on a "scientist," a chemical engineer, who had not been working for the Iraqi state or had not been living in Iraq since 1999, even turning out that the so-called "chemical engineer" or "scientist" was a taxi driver? Does Antobam know this?

Why can the CIA hire a taxi driver living outside Iraq since 1999 and not, say, an educated person like Danquah, Nkrumah's major political opponent and co-member of the UGCC?

How about Iraqi-America Dr. Ahmed Chalabi, the MIT- and University of Chigago-trained trained mathematician most of whose fabrications on Saddam's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction and Saddam's alleged ties to Al-Qaeda, primarily shaped America's foreign policy toward Iraq, thus providing powerful justifications for the Iraqi war that toppled Saddam? And does Kobina know Chalabi has mostly been living in the UK and the US since the mid-1950s?

And who says the CIA doesn't hire ordinary folks (like Danquah's connections to the CIA in Richard Mahoney's reckoning) to do their dirty work?

The CIA has hired all sorts of people to do its bidding---truck and taxi drivers, teachers and professors, translators, ordinary founders of NGOs, laborers, police and military officers, presidential food tasters and advisors,economic advisors, pastors and evangelists and Imams, couriers, prostitutes, scientists, farmers, drivers, maintenance persons, pimps, pilots, researchers, musicians, philanthropists, prisoners, and what have you!

So, what is Antobam saying? Is he not familiar with the vast literature on CIA/FBI operations authored by former agents of the CIA/FBI? What prevented the CIA from recruiting Danquah, Nkrumah's major opponent and a man who once worked with Nkrumah in the UGCC, and other scientists working in Ghana?

What concrete evidence does Antobam have to challenge Richard Mahoney's observations other than coveniently walking around them as Gabby Ochere-Darko also unsuccessfully tried to re-write the book until writers like Nana Akyea Mensah (Odikro) and others challenged him to stop re-writing/re-wording parts of Mahoney's book that indicted Danquah?

What were the expertise and educational backgrounds of Mobuto and Idi Amin when the CIA recruited them? Why did the CIA choose Mobuto (when George H.W. Bush wanted to set up a center for the CIA to monitor activies in Central-Eastern Africa), one of Lumumba's ideological enemies, over Russian and other expatriate scientists, etc., working in Zaire at the time (and some Lumumba's top advisors)?

One wonders how the Rosenbergs (Ethel Greenglass and Julius) stole American atomic secrets and gave them to the Soviets without the CIA's initial knowldedge.

How did the CIA/FBI fail to stop Sept 11 from happening?

How was Edward Snowden able to get out of America with loads of classified information without the CIA'S/FBI's prior knowledge, let alone arresting him and retrieving the documents?

How are Al-Qaeda/ISIS, etc., able to contract terrorists in the West to bomb and kill Western citizens without Western intelligence stopping them (I am not saying it is so in every situation)?

How did Lee Harvey Oswald assassinate John F. Kennedy withouth the CIA/FBI getting to know about it in advance?

How did Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey (who had been charged in Kennedy's death and awaiting trial in police custody) to death without the CIA/FBI's prior knowledge?

How come Angela Merkel and German intelligence did not know the Americans were bugging her conversations?

Did American intelligence prove Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction?

Did American intelligence succeed in proving any links between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda?

.....THE LIST IS ENDLESS.

But what is the essence of Antobam's articles when it patetnly fails to provide incontrovertive counter-narrative against Richard Mahoney's authoritative account?

Further still, what has this got to do with anybody's critical thinking skills? Are Americans still not talking about the intelligence failures that led to the Iraqi War even in the midst of unemployment, homelessness, recession, etc? Who says you can't discuss history and dumsor in the same breath? Is part of that history not what built the Akosombo Dam? And did Nkrumah not build the Akosombo Dam in the midst of terrorism?

This is what happens when one allows emotions on a subject matter to control the analyses. If you continue to make Danquah your Moby Dick, you will continue to loose your objectivity and idolize Nkrumah. Please remember there is no world leader without policy flaws.

So, where do I bid against myself, Kwadwo? Please tell me where Danquah played Chalabi and Alwan al-Janabi in Richard Mahoney's book! I want Danquah's exact words if you can direct me to the page of the book!

That aside, the fact of Chalabi and Alwan al-Janabi working for the CIA (and the Bush Administartion) does not rule out the fact that, indeed, they worked for the CIA (and the Bush Administration). As simple as that!

Whether intillegence gathering is an exact science or not is irrelevant here. Even exact sciences have their inexact fallibilities sometimes. Don't also forget that it has been speculated that the CIA coached some of their agents, like Chalabi and Alwan al-Janabi, to lie in order to manipulate public opinion towards Bush's foreign policy in the lead-up to the Iraqi War.

Actually, there is a long history of the CIA/FBI doing this. J.E. Hoover and the FBI used this tactic a lot. In fact, all intelligence organizations sometimes coach their agents to lie for one reason or the other. This is mostly done when national security is at stake when veriable evidence is not there to give shots of moral muscularity to the intentions of the excutive branch of government, as happened in Bush's case.

Why are you beating about the bush, like Ahoofe, Gabby, and others?

Kwadwo that is your cup of tea, not mine, Rchard Mahoney's, and possibly thousands who have read the book! Shouldn't you be drinking your cup of tea alone?

You need to see an eye-doctor then. The entire world sees the evidence even including Danquah's family member, Gabby, who tried to cover it up via his re-writing or re-wording of parts of Richard Mahoney's book where Danquah went to the American Embassy to ask the William Mahoney, the American Ambassador, why the funds to his family had ceased 9courtesy of Nana Akyea Mensah, Odikro.

Actually it is not what you see that matters to me. It is what I see and what Richard Mahoney says that matters to me.

Kwadwo, I care less what you see or don't see. Richard has made his case and he not gone back on it. Remember I don't need your eyes to see. Richard Mahoney rests his case. I rest my case.

I DO NOT need any second hand information from anybody. If it is a question of history, there are native Ghanaian historians I can pick from. I only quoted Mahoney just that once to make a point. Danquah bashers quote him against Danquah, so what is wrong with quoting Mahoney to make my point? William Mahoney might have quizzed his seventy plus year old father for his memories of his stay in Ghana; that is fine.

If he says his father and his CIA colleagues were in contact with the police, army and other individuals, which Kwame Nkrumah knew about because he met with Mahoney and also wrote Lyndon Johnson about it. My question is what exactly was done about the CIA and their agents in Ghana?

Colin Powell has admitted false intelligence and intelligence failures on Iraq, and so have Tony Blair and George Bush. Why can’t we accept that Kwame Nkrumah made a mistake, admit that great injustice was done against the person of JB Danquah and begin to do something worthwhile for our country?

The thrust of my argument which people like you are skirting around is “if there really was overwhelming evidence that JB Danquah was a CIA agent and the CIA itself was such a thorn in the side of Kwame Nkrumah’s government, why didn’t Nkrumah follow the due process to try and expose him for what he was?

Yes, there were intelligence failures, there were administrative failures, and above all there were injustices done to Ghanaian citizens. All those show that Kwame Nkrumah was human after all. “To err is human (“Onimpa hia mframa”, as a former minister used to say)”. We ought to be honest about our past, deal with the aspects that are inimical to national cohesion and development, show some respect to the contributions of our forebears and move on to make our OWN contribution to the development of Ghana.

Collin Powell was lied to by the CIA and Iraqi dissidents who lied to the CIA and the CIA in turn coached some of these dissidents them to lie. These kinds of lies are what some of your Ghanaian historians have done and have been exposed. There are so many lies in Ghanaian history books.

That said, what has your landmarks got to do with anything, in fact contradicting what Richard Mahoney says about Danquah and the CIA? Do you have to tell me about Ghanaian landmarks for what, to prove to me that Danquah was involved in the ritual murder of his relative and that he fell out with the Burns administration on account of his involvement with the relatives murder (after his appeal to the Privy Council failed to win his appeal)?

And for your information, Richard Mahoney’s work “JFK: Ordeal in Africa” has received more scholarly, methodological, and research attention in the West and among institutions across Africa (postcolonial studies, etc) than most of the drivels written by your favorite Ghanaian historians. Mahoney’s is a serious work of scholarship based on insider information and well-researched analysis of historical events. This is not to discredit Ghanaian historians across the board, far from it. A few of them are doing or have done just fine!

What sort of stupid argument is that, your so-called landmark arguments? For your information, no one is bashing Danquah. People like us are allowing historical facts to speak for themselves.

It is like another commentator telling me Danquah argued that Africans owed their ancestry to Sumerians because Danquah said "su ma" in Twi means....This commentator who apparently had not taken his time to do a comparative linguistic analysis (considering languages around the world) which would have told him that there are so many languages in the world that etymologically or philologically explain "Sumer."

Yet he quoted the Ghanaian scholar/historian Danquah on his faulty, illogical, and unscientific conclusions. There are a number of unscientific Ghanaian historians like that.

Let me also assure you that advancement in carbon dating techniques, thermo -luminescence dating, etc., have brought about many questions that a number of our Ghanaian historians have failed to address in their works. These new changes in dating methods, etc., have come from non-Ghanaians.

A buried boat discovered in Ghana dates back to SEVERAL thousand years, thereby challenging CONVENTIONAL Ghanaian historians whose accounts of history/human geography, in what later became Ghana, to a couple of thousand years. I DON'T KNOW WHICH GHANAIN HISTORIANS WHOSE WORKS YOU ARE REFEERING TO BUT I CAN ASSURE THAT ADU BOAHEN, FK BUAH, KOFI AWOONOR, BUSIA, CASELY-HAYFORD, AND ALL OUR MAJOR HISTORIANS RELIED ON PORTUGUESE, BRITISH, FRENCH, DUTCH, AND ARABIC SOURCES TO WRITE THEIR BOOKS.

For your information, new archeological discoveries being made across Ghana, West Africa and Africa in general, new discovered historical materials (Western, Arabic, and Africa), new research methods, and new scientific re-interpretation of oral history (or oral literature), etc., are challenging what we Ghanaians know about ourselves. And a lot of these have come from purely non-Ghanaian sources. I don't know which planet you live on or which century you live!

For instance, the American mathematician, scientist, and cyberneticist Dr. Ron Eglash has unraveled the mathematical marvel behind FRACTALS in Ghana and across Africa, which none of our Ghanaian historians have hitherto not done, putting everything in its proper historical context. In other words, it took Dr. Eglash's scientific work on investigating the historical and mathematical underpinnings of African Fractals for African historians, including their Ghanaian counterparts, to bring global awareness to African contributions to computer development.

So what do you mean when you said you don't Richard Mahoney can't tell you about Ghana's history? The research methods Adu Boahen, FK Buah, Busia, and all our historians used, even including ethnological interviews or collecting oral history, were/are Western-based? So what is the basis of your ill-informed conclusions? Didn't non-Ghanaian sources provide the bases for the scholarships of Ghanaians? TELL ME THE NAME OF ONE SINGLE GHANAIAN/GOLD COAST HISTORIAN WHOSE CITATIONS OR SCHOLARSHIP DIDN'T/DOES RELY ON NON-GHANAIAN SOURCES! SO YOU SEE, THIS IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM MANY OF YOU ADMIRERS OF DANQUAH HAVE. YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THESE IMPORTANT THINGS MEAN!

Why would Mahoney mention J.B. Danquah of all the men in Ghana at the time? Could you give me one single explanation why Mahoney mention Danquah and not any other person?

What evidence did you provide to prove Richard Mahoney wrong? NONE. Not even one. All you did was to walk around the issue with hollow non-issues.

And yes, Danquah was a human being, allowing his own stupidity, greed, and planning to assassinate Nkrumah land him in prison under the PDA, a piece of Bill signed into law by the Colonial Government (Lord Listowel).

The fact that there are Ghanaian historians does not mean they are qualified to write truthfully about certain things. There are Ghanaian historians whose works are not respected in Ghana, Africa, and any part of the world.

For your information, the history of Ghana has made it clear that Kwame Nkrumah did nothing to Danquah. Get that into your head. The law of the land, an act of Parliament passed into law by the British Colonial Government, caught up with Danquah's greed and stupidity. Please go back and read about the history behind the PDA and what it says. I don't want you to throw tired conjectures back at me.

Now come back with inconvertible facts proving to me why Richard Mahoney mentioned only Danquah's name out of all the names of black men in Ghana at the time! And why would any intelligent person show respect to a traitor like Danquah and a person who went all the way to defend ritual murderers (when he knew everything about the ritual murder)?

Tell me why the British 9the Burns Administration) distanced themselves from Danquah after realizing his involvement in the case?

Why should an intelligent person respect a traitor like Danquah when his own people rejected him in Akyem Abuakwa Central, his constituency, in 1954/1956 because they had no respect for him?

Why should any intelligent person respect a traitor like Danquah when he opposed the name "Ghana" and he and his friends did everything to oppose Ghana's independence?

Please come back with more intelligent answers than the emotional and a-historical canards you have put out here. AND MIND YOU, NKRUMAH WAS BETTER PERSON THAN YOUR DANQUAH BY ANY STANDARD. Remember that Nkrumah was one of the greatest leaders in the 20th century who changed the world, hence winning the 1954 World Peace Award, among others, including being voted Africa's Man of the Millennium. The world does not know your Danquah. Simple. Your emotions and crocodile tears, skewed historical revisionism, and a-historicity won't change that. I am sorry! FORGET DANQUAH, HE’S NOT A GOBAL ICON! HE IS NOT EVEN AN ICON IN GHANA, NOT TO TALK OF AFRICA!

It is clear there are far older guys just as there are relatively youger ones who barely know much about the Gold Coast, Ghana, Nkrumah, etc. I am lucky to be surrounded by great and knowledgeable individuals who were born at the time, knew Danquah and Nkrumah and others.

Besides, do I have to be 3000-plus-yearold in order to understand ot know about the world of Aristotle and Socrates? How long was Okomfo Anokye's since you lived duting his time?

Please tell them, Nkrumah bashers who live in America, next time when their Nkrumah-bashing articles appear on Ghanaweb this:

"Thank God that in America where you live, and even now in Ghana too, anyone can say or write what they please without the fear of the midnight visitor!"

I wish you personally knew me when I was in Ghana. I have become relatively less outspoken, controversial, and argumentative over the years. I was worse at the university!

Antobam sees it, things are merely a series of unimportant random acts, including the "recollections of a ten year old American school boy", who we all know - grew up to be a rather distinguished scholar, teacher, traveler, etc., whom we'd presume, more than another person, had access to his daddy's old cupboards/drawers and papers at the embassy and at home, for as long as they both were/are!

ITEM: We've been on Ghanaweb over a decade. It all started, and is primed by J.B. Danquah's kin and supporters who define themselves by what they do and say against Ghana's first national leader and President. There is nothing critical or objective there.

That is why they will never have global traction and appeal.

This is a brief of what a critical thinker wrote some where on these pages.

'One of the most brutal dictators in our modern era is that Singaporean Lee Kuan Yew (LKY). A couple of years ago BBC interviewed relatives of political prisoners who are still victims of LKY, whose abuses are well documented.

To suppress those pernicious aspects of the dominant Chinese culture, it took the uncompromising heavy-handedness of LKY to establish order in what used to be a fishing village, now transformed into a shinning economic juggernaut.

Afroland culture, like that of India is so entrenched in superstition and its primitive aspects that control the minds of the people. The Chinese finally cracked the code to overcome cultural backwardness that hinders progress and the oppressive communist tactics that controls behaviour, thought and human initiative have been employed to transform China.

In democratic India, they still paint buildings with cow dung and share the road with sacred bulls. There’s no way that Federal Democratic sub-continent India is going to overcome those cultural problems hindering their development. And that explains a shiny China to a dirty and spotty India.

So what has all this got to do with Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah who was facing stiff opposition from within and without Ghana? It is the beneficial results of employing BRUTAL tactics to overcome culturally backward people. He made a big mistake by underestimating the readiness of the Afrodude for prime time. He overlooked the backward culture of the Afrodude when he tried to establish the conditions to compete with Oyibo. For merely throwing conspirators in jail per the constitutionally approved PDA, he’s been labeled a DICTATOR.

Consider Osagyefo’s reign as a control experiment in science. After 58 years, he’s been proven RIGHT. He had Oyibo advisors and secretary and that even warms my heart more than anything else. Brother AckeEater, this explains why I’ll ALWAYS support this selfless and dedicated servant of the people who was voted Afroland’s Man of the Century! Today Ghana goes for IMF loan to purchase a copy machine. Go figure! Se acabo.'

When was the last time a whole “end of state examination was re-written as it is being done today?” When was the last time 63% of pupils presented for BECE failed to make the grade? A government report just last week or the week before said about 80% of school children fail maths and science examinations because they CANNOT read and understand the questions, did you read that?

Exactly 42 years ago, I found myself at the Koforidua Central Hospital as a student on holidays. My beddings were changed EVERY morning, with crisp white sheets. There were three meals a day, with afternoon tea. It was like a hotel. I did not know any nurse or doctor in the hospital. Doctors came round promptly at 10 am! Initially, I thought it was because I was registered as a “University student at UST” that I was getting such treatment. But then I looked around and everyone was receiving the same treatment. I wandered off to other male wards, and it was the same.

The last time I visited a very prominent family friend on admission at Korle Bu, his children were bringing him food and water three times daily. Most of the beds on the ward were covered with “cover cloth”, some did not have any covering at all, because either those patients did not have anything to cover their beds or perhaps were visitors to Accra. That cannot in all honesty qualify as a hospital ward in the twenty-first century, and I visit patients in hospitals in the UK all the time, and that certainly did not happen in Ghana in 1973!

Did we have doctors and Engineers in Ghana during colonial rule? What a pity that you do DO NOT know anything about Ghana. Have you heard of Easmon Ward in many hospitals in Ghana? His name may sound foreign, but he was a pure blooded Ga. He qualified as a medical doctor in the 1920 and 30s and there were many others. There were even Ghanaian women doctors in Ghana before independence.

Have you ever heard of the name EVC de Graft Johnson? He became the head of Ghana Railways, He was a top Ghanaian engineer long before independence. There were many others. I believe Dr RP Baffuor’s son is an MP now? I also believe Mr Tuyee’s chalk factory still runs in Tema.

Who do you think ran Ghana Airways, PWD, SCC? You see why I think this whole Danquah bashing thin is embarrassing?

And this was a person who had not been living in Iraq since 1999!

Why would the CIA rely on a "scientist," a chemical engineer, who had not been working for the Iraqi state or had not been living in Iraq since 1999, even turning out that the so-called "chemical engineer" or "scientist" was a taxi driver? Does Antobam know this?

Why can the CIA hire a taxi driver living outside Iraq since 1999 and not, say, an educated person like Danquah, Nkrumah's major political opponent and co-member of the UGCC?

How about Iraqi-America Dr. Ahmed Chalabi, the MIT- and University of Chigago-trained trained mathematician most of whose fabrications on Saddam's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction and Saddam's alleged ties to Al-Qaeda, primarily shaped America's foreign policy toward Iraq, thus providing powerful justifications for the Iraqi war that toppled Saddam? And does Kobina know Chalabi has mostly been living in the UK and the US since the mid-1950s?

And who says the CIA doesn't hire ordinary folks (like Danquah's connections to the CIA in Richard Mahoney's reckoning) to do their dirty work?

The CIA has hired all sorts of people to do its bidding---truck and taxi drivers, teachers and professors, translators, ordinary founders of NGOs, laborers, police and military officers, presidential food tasters and advisors,economic advisors, pastors and evangelists and Imams, couriers, prostitutes, scientists, farmers, drivers, maintenance persons, pimps, pilots, researchers, musicians, philanthropists, prisoners, and what have you!

So, what is Antobam saying? Is he not familiar with the vast literature on CIA/FBI operations authored by former agents of the CIA/FBI? What prevented the CIA from recruiting Danquah, Nkrumah's major opponent and a man who once worked with Nkrumah in the UGCC, and other scientists working in Ghana?

What concrete evidence does Antobam have to challenge Richard Mahoney's observations other than coveniently walking around them as Gabby Ochere-Darko also unsuccessfully tried to re-write the book until writers like Nana Akyea Mensah (Odikro) and others challenged him to stop re-writing/re-wording parts of Mahoney's book that indicted Danquah?

What were the expertise and educational backgrounds of Mobuto and Idi Amin when the CIA recruited them? Why did the CIA choose Mobuto (when George H.W. Bush wanted to set up a center for the CIA to monitor activies in Central-Eastern Africa), one of Lumumba's ideological enemies, over Russian and other expatriate scientists, etc., working in Zaire at the time (and some Lumumba's top advisors)?

One wonders how the Rosenbergs (Ethel Greenglass and Julius) stole American atomic secrets and gave them to the Soviets without the CIA's initial knowldedge.

How did the CIA/FBI fail to stop Sept 11 from happening?

How was Edward Snowden able to get out of America with loads of classified information without the CIA'S/FBI's prior knowledge, let alone arresting him and retrieving the documents?

How are Al-Qaeda/ISIS, etc., able to contract terrorists in the West to bomb and kill Western citizens without Western intelligence stopping them (I am not saying it is so in every situation)?

How did Lee Harvey Oswald assassinate John F. Kennedy withouth the CIA/FBI getting to know about it in advance?

How did Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey (who had been charged in Kennedy's death and awaiting trial in police custody) to death without the CIA/FBI's prior knowledge?

How come Angela Merkel and German intelligence did not know the Americans were bugging her conversations?

Did American intelligence prove Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction?

Did American intelligence succeed in proving any links between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda?

.....THE LIST IS ENDLESS.

But what is the essence of Antobam's articles when it patetnly fails to provide incontrovertive counter-narrative against Richard Mahoney's authoritative account?

Further still, what has this got to do with anybody's critical thinking skills? Are Americans still not talking about the intelligence failures that led to the Iraqi War even in the midst of unemployment, homelessness, recession, etc? Who says you can't discuss history and dumsor in the same breath? Is part of that history not what built the Akosombo Dam? And did Nkrumah not build the Akosombo Dam in the midst of terrorism?

Were there more than one J.B. Danquah in the entire country, colony, or what have you, at the time? If there were, why did Richard Mahoney this J.B. Danquah?

In other words, could there have been another J.B. Danquah Richard Mahoney's father knew of ans saw in the embassy that day that no one else in the entire history of Gold Coast/Ghana was/is aware of?

Could it also be that all the black men in the country at the time looked just like J.B. Danquah to the point where Richard Mahoney's father failed to tell them apart?

Could Richar Mahoney's father had confused J.B. Danquah with obetsebi-Lamptey, Ako-Adjei, Busia, Modesto Apaloo, S.G. Antor, Baffour Akoto, or with any of the Chinese and Russian scientists and white women/men who worked for and with Nkrumah?

Why are the admirers of Danquah not answering these questions?

Your essay sounds very interesting. However, a careful observation shows that your arguments are only based on reasoning or logic but not facts. I would therefore like to draw your attention to the fact that ‘logic’ or ‘reasoning’ are not in themselves “FACTS”. In other words, facts are different from logic or reasoning and even more, facts do not follow any reasoning or logic sometimes. Now, let’s look at your main arguments again the “Danquah Bashers”.

My Response:

In my opinion, this is a deceptive statement to mislead some of us who have not read Mahoney’s book. The questions is: did Mahoney state that his book was based on the observations he made as a 10 years old boy? I am pretty sure he believed in his opinions about this subject and went ahead to publish them as FACTS with all the relevant sources included unless he wrote the book in a fashion of a fiction. I also presume, he never stated anywhere in the book that those opinions he made in the book were based on the observations he made as a 10 years old boy hence, I would imagine he made those claims as an accomplished scholar. In such a circumstance, you are not in a position to dismiss his claims by sheer logic and reasoning (to the effect that he was 10 years old when his father was an ambassador) without any information to the contrary from much authoritative sources supreme to his sources. No serious scholar does that. The prudent way to refute an academic colleague is to take him point by point on areas of disagreements—identifying his errors and substituting the right information from more authoritative sources. Until then, you are only swimming in the realm of assumption. In your case, you are assuming that he was 10 years old when his father was an ambassador and therefore his book was based on the memories of those years.

Second, you stated “Kwame Nkrumah was obviously aware of and frustrated by this threat, as he demonstrated in his letter to Lyndon Johnson in February 1964.” and further elaborated:

“The question is, if Nkrumah knew about the machinations of the west against his government, what exactly did he do about them? Until recently, the French embassy was located right next door to Flagstaff House. Just down the road in Cantonments was the British High Commission and not quite a kilometre away on Independence Avenue were the Canadian High Commission and the Dutch embassy. Right in the centre of the ‘’Ministries’ and almost next door to the powerful Ministry of Interior was the giant American ‘embassy on stilts’”

My Response:

I stand to be corrected. What I get from the above quotation is that first, Nkrumah should not have allowed the seat of government and other important government institutions to be surrounded by his enemies’ embassies if he feels threatened. Here, my take is that if you want to advance your argument in this direction, then a much more logic would be that he as well might cut off a diplomatic relations with these listed countries else as long as they were in Accra changes nothing as to what that threat might be. The truth was that those who were used by the West to overthrow the government sold their conscience and their country irrespective of whether they were in Ghana or abroad and they should be blamed and not Nkrumah because you and I do not know the circumstance in which those countries were allowed to set their embassies at that time.

Third you also, stated “There was an even more interesting, perhaps even bizarre domestic/operational arrangement around Kwame Nkrumah’s person in those days:
Chief of Defence Staff General Henry Alexander, British World War II veteran (till September 1961), when Alexander and the entire British officer corps were replaced by inexperienced Ghanaian officers, assisted by “Canadian military training technicians”.)
Attorney-General Geoffrey Bing, British Lawyer
President’s Events and Private Secretary, June Milne, English spinster, presumably vetted by MI5/MI6.
President’s Personal Pilot and Head of Afienya Gliding School Flt. Capt. Hanna Reitsch, Nazi (Hitler’s Personal) Pilot, who had sought refuge in Ghana in 1963, and was a world class ace flying pilot.

Here you seems to argue that Nkrumah did not believe in his own statement that the “Blackman is capable of managing his own affairs” by seeking Whiteman’s help or at least seeking the help of those who might come from countries he felt threatened with. The fact is, you either ignored or you are not aware of another statement where Nkrumah said “I am neither racist nor racialist”. The fact was that Nkrumah genuinely seek the assistance of all of those (whites, blacks, men, women, nationals and foreigners) he believed could help him to build the new nation. That does not in any way means the Blackman is not capable of managing his own affairs or Nkrumah didn’t believe in his own statement and I am not aware of any information to the effect that any of those persons you mentioned betrayed him. Besides, seeking the help of other nationals in a nation building was peculiar to Nkrumah’s Government, it was a standard practice among all the newly independent states i.e. they were inviting any expert who was willing to help in building a new state. And even today, countries do that in one way or another. It is unfortunate you conveniently removed the non-whites and people of other nationalities apart from the West to advanced that argument.

It is a pity that you did not see God Coast and you obviously haven’t learnt much in your adult life either. Ghana had more graduates per capita than any African country that gained independence in the 1960s. There were not only “Preachers and lawyers.” There were Ghanaian electrical, civil and mechanical engineers, surgeons, physicians, psychiatrists, matrons, nurses, musicians, administrators.
Anybody who has had up to JSS education in Ghana should know this!

I would therefore like to draw your attention to the fact that ‘logic’ or ‘reasoning’ are not in themselves “FACTS”. In other words, facts are different from logic or reasoning and even more, facts do not follow any reasoning or logic sometimes. Now, let’s look at your main arguments again the “Danquah Bashers”.

My Response:

In my opinion, this is a deceptive statement to mislead some of us who have not read Mahoney’s book. The questions is: did Mahoney state that his book was based on the observations he made as a 10 years old boy? I am pretty sure he believed in his opinions about this subject and went ahead to publish them as FACTS with all the relevant sources included unless he wrote the book in a fashion of a fiction. I also presume, he never stated anywhere in the book that those opinions he made in the book were based on the observations he made as a 10 years old boy hence, I would imagine he made those claims as an accomplished scholar. In such a circumstance, you are not in a position to dismiss his claims by sheer logic and reasoning (to the effect that he was 10 years old when his father was an ambassador) without any information to the contrary from much authoritative sources supreme to his sources. No serious scholar does that. The prudent way to refute an academic colleague is to take him point by point on areas of disagreements—identifying his errors and substituting the right information from more authoritative sources. Until then, you are only swimming in the realm of assumption. In your case, you are assuming that he was 10 years old when his father was an ambassador and therefore his book was based on the memories of those years.

Yours is one of the few comments worth responding to because you seem to be ready to debate. My reference to Mahoney and the comment about his age is inconsequential. He is someone that the Danquah bashers like to quote. I only quoted him to make a point. All I am implying is that since the other side believes in what he has written about Danquah, they should equally believe what he has written about other aspects of life in Ghana. What is wrong with that?

My Response:

I stand to be corrected. What I get from the above quotation is that first, Nkrumah should not have allowed the seat of government and other important government institutions to be surrounded by his enemies’ embassies if he feels threatened. Here, my take is that if you want to advance your argument in this direction, then a much more logic would be that he as well might cut off a diplomatic relations with these listed countries else as long as they were in Accra changes nothing as to what that threat might be. The truth was that those who were used by the West to overthrow the government sold their conscience and their country irrespective of whether they were in Ghana or abroad and they should be blamed and not Nkrumah because you and I do not know the circumstance in which those countries were allowed to set their embassies at that time.

My Comment: This was a matter of life and death and the future of his government. In other jurisdictions, they pack off whole sections of an embassy if they feel their activities are not in line with their diplomatic status. The PNDC did it to the Americans in the early 1980s. The Russians and the Americans do it to each other all the time. That is how you show your displeasure in diplomatic circles!

My Comment: You missed the thrust of my argument. For instance, if I believe that with just the members of my family I can successfully run my family business, why will bring anybody from outside the family?
But my main point which a lot of commentators seem to miss is the fact that when shove came to push, all those people that Kwame Nkrumah obviously trusted to run his government WILL side with their respective mother countries. Remember in the West, they talk about PERMANENT INTERESTS, NOT PERMANENT ENEEMIES. As far as the west was concerned, Kwame Nkrumah was working against their interest and they were prepared to do anything to stop that. It was a major undertaking that he had embarked on. You could not fight that kind of battle using citizens of the same countries you were fighting against. I cannot put it any simpler than that!

You should reflect on the meaning of "freedom" and "justice" and "liberty" and "equal rights" and "independence" and ask yourself the question as to whether Nkrumah provided any of these during his tyrannical rule.

As to "breaking the yoke of colonialism", if the people had been made to understand that it only meant Nkrumah's detention without trial, or deprivation of sovereignty or one party state or life presidency, I am sure they would have rejected it.

I know this because I would have.....

And BTW, Nkrumah's "education policy" was useless if it produced arrant illiterates like you: you can't even reason logically or write simple English. What else can you do?

Howard Gardner's and Edward de Bono's works both subtly and overtly allude to this (I have thoroughly studied both scholars and others on these questions)!

I could not agree with KAS more. Here his "preconceived" refers to calcified conclusions with no chance of change; he is not talking about hypothesis needing confirmation into theoretical conclusions. You are taking "preconceived" literally to mean "imagined beforehand". But the scientific approach does not involve "pre-conceived notions". Rather, they involve hypotheticals that are confirmed or denied by observation, measurement or experimentation.

To suggest that scientists apply "preconceived notions" will be an insult to all scientists. Preconceived notions are those conclusively accepted and never questioned, and the method of critical thinking propounded by KAS above is unknown to those that harbor "preconceived notions".

Critical thinking permeates every pore of human psychologization, whether it's a question of romance, speculative philosophy, science, intelligence gathering, mathematical theorizing and computations, pedagogy, religion, harmonization between musical theory in respect of lyricality and rhythmicity, eschatology, dialectics, child rearing, and what have you.

And KAS's "preconceived" could as well be taken to mean a calcified or non-calcified predisposition, or both, to ideas. The general definition of "critical thinking" accommodates both definitional contentions. In other words, what “calcified” means varies from one individual to another and also depends on context and time.

I intended my commentary to capture the narrowness of KAS's position to include the definitional generality of "critical thinking." Besides, there is no moment of definitional fixity as far as the range of "calcified" goes in the sphere of critical thinking.

Again many instances exist in science, exact and inexact. For instance, Albert Einstein had a calcified psychology on the soundness of his general theory of relativity, even when empirical or experimental data did not exist to support aspects of his theory that were in contention.

Over time experimental verification of those aspects of his theory confirmed his calcified position (although the theory of relativity is not a "perfect" model and as a result scientists from around the world are looking for an alternative theory to explain aspects of nature where his theory completely fails).

Another example was Einstein's controversial invented "cosmological constant," which many of his colleagues claimed was not necessary to explain a model he had developed. After some he dropped, then later deployed it again only to drop it again, all because he calcified mentality told him he could be right. As we speak Einstein's "cosmological constant" is back in modern physics (you should read more about this).

Then we have Cheikh Anta Diop who took about a decade to successfully defend his doctoral dissertation at Sorbonne University, France's Harvard. Diop advanced theories the dissertation committee disagreed with. Thus, his back and forth argumentations with the dissertation committee. As one American-based Ghanaian scholar told me Diop only agreed to the dissertation committee's suggestions to revise certain portions to fit Western psychology on Africa.

After he successfully defended his dissertation and won his doctorate he forgot about the dissertation that won him his doctorate and went back to the one the dissertation committee consistently rejected.

As of this writing, his rejected doctoral dissertation which he went on to publish in Presence Africaine is what has positively impacted the world, creating new model of scientific methodology (comparative methodology) and pedagogy for studying Africa and the ancient world. Political economy, comparative linguistics, human geography, Egyptology, etc., are facets of his scientific comparative methodology.

I can assure you that there are innumerable calcified opinions in the past 10,000 years of human existence that have the solid backing of science and experimental verification. As such, I will not finish if I should attempt giving you an exhaustive list. You can find this in mathematics, philosophy, pharmacology, physical cosmology, medicine, forensics, jurisprudence, and the like.

Some are even willing to call "calcified" predispositions to ideas "hunch" or "intuition." Some have been hanged, guillotined, or beheaded on account of their calcified predispositions to ideas, only for science and the conscience of humanity to posthumously exonerate them.

Please read more about GIORDANO BRUNO, GALILEO, COPERNICUS, and several thinkers who defended their calcified ideas to death (only for modern science to exonerate them). Going back to my definitional contention that what “calcified” means varies from one individual to the other depending upon context and time, among others, we see the leaders of the Catholic Church had their own “calcified” ideational predispositions to the natural world and the scientists they banished or killed also had their “calcified” ideational predispositions to the natural world.

Yet modern science had proved one right and the other wrong. Unfortunately the Catholic Church, like other religious groups, has not entirely banished their central beliefs from their canonized traditions. Whether “calcified” religious beliefs are true or not is beside the point.

Individuals can believe in whatever they want to believe in and, as a matter of fact, it is also irrelevant whether what they believe in could be deemed “calcified” or not. That is a personal thing. The essential point is that what one person might see as “calcified,” another might see as freethinking. For instance, a conservative Christian (the Jerry Falwell, to mention) was calcified in his opinion that homosexuality was wrong on account of scriptural proscription.

Jerry Falwell also believed in creationism and intelligent design. Yet the conservative scientist Dr. Francis Collins, one of the world’s most respected scientists in the area of genetics and human genomics, rejects creationism and intelligent design. He even beliefs there is some genetic basis for homosexuality given the genetic study of twins, though he says this with scientific qualification (see his book “The Language of God”; go to his website BioLogos (biologos.org)). Which of these two, the late Jerry Falwell and Francis Collins, is more calcified in his views about creationism, intelligent design, homosexuality, etc., from the standpoints of the Bible and science?

Remember how the argument began: you challenged KAS' fine definition of critical thinking by positing that "preconceived notions" are acceptable as a scientific method of critical thinking. I then drew your attention to the fact that "preconceived notion" is a derogatory phrase denoting a calcified (ossified) unchangeable notion. Then you became attached to the new word "calcified", applying the same debunked meaning of "preconceived" to it and now lauding its historical use by scientists.....

You have to understand that "preconceived" and "calcified" are all negative adjectives strung, in the philosophical context, to bad ideas and ideology. So when we say "preconceived", "predetermined" or "calcified" notion, these simply imply those notions that cannot stand scientific scrutiny and are yet held on as faith or truth by ideologues.....

To understand the concept better, you can turn around all those scientific theories you recite above on their heads, and insofar as they were even relatively true or eventually proven, they were never preconceived notions. Rather, the culprits of "preconceived" or "calcified" notions are those trying to stick to their original positions. Therefore with Galileo, or Copernicus or Archimedes, their positions are the tenable ones because they are verifiable by the scientific method. All those refusing to look at the math and the methods are the ones holding on to preconceived (calcified) notions in spite of the overwhelming scientific evidence.

Let us transpose the above reasoning to the ground: You Nkrumaists hold on to the "preconceived notion" that Nkrumah is the greatest leader, and we Danquaists are saying this is not the case and cite several reasons why our notion against Nkrumah is right. Without debunking any of the facts adduced, you launch into irrelevancies and defensive excuses to repeat the mantra that Nkrumah is the greatest. You sometimes deviate altogether to insult Danquah in order to salvage Nkrumah's image. That is why we say that like those priests who wanted to send Galileo to the gallows, you are not interested in any truth apart from those supporting your preconceived notions. You may provide a redefinition of 'preconceived" or 'calcified" brain to sanctify those terms, but that will not change a bit.
