I beg to disagree with some of the information you provide in the quote above.

The Akosombo Dam is part of what was envisaged to be Volta River Project to comprise of hydroelectricity from the Dan, aluminum smelting plant which came to be known as Valco, irrigation of the vast Accra Plains, water transportation on the lake and resettlement of about 80, 000 people whose homes, farms and other properties were flooded as result of the creation of the Volta Lake.

The Dam construction costs were borne by Ghana Government by meeting half of the dam construction costs and by the Ghana Government borrowing from Britain and the US the remaining half of the costs. The construction was carried out by a consortium of companies from the US, Britain, Canada and Italy.

The smelter, a wholly private company called Valco (Volta Aluminum Company) was owned by two US companies - Kaiser Aluminum (90%)and Reynolds Metals (10%) and was built with loans granted the company from the U. S. tax-payer funded Eximbank and OPIC . Ghana wanted at least 40% shares in the smelter, but US and World Bank opposed that idea. The US and World Bank loans for the dam construction were on the condition that the smelter would be wholly private owned.

Valco had an agreement to buy hydroelectric from the Akosombo Dam. It was this agreement that was renegotiated in its entirety in 1983. Prior to 1983, there had been some little upward adjustments to electric tariff rate following the oil crisis of the 1970s.

Your decent and revealing elaboration of the facts surrounding the Akosombo dam is however applauded. You are a learned man who has instantly and without the application of shock therapy, put that raving loony bin where exactly he belongs.

If his own parents who bore him and brought him up could not make him a more reasonable and useful person to human society, then it leaves us - the more discerning elements of Ghanaian society, with no other option than to give him 'shock therapy' as a last resort to wake him up from his negative stupor. His counterparts who are locked up in mental institutions are not given the option and luxury of free speech and movement so why should this delusional lying character be denied the appropriate treatment that can save him from totally losing his faculties and reality?

Samuel Adjei marfo - so-called, is not interested in the truth. Far from it. His only interest is in subverting and distorting the truth when it comes to anything that has to do with Kwame Nkrumah. On the other hand, he goes scuppering around looking for the minutest figment of imagined truth to raise the image of Danquah so that he and his gang of imperialist puppets may ultimately exonerate and free Danquah from the dungeons of shameful treachery where he has dumped himself.

All this that the fake Dr is going on about, on how Nkrumah did not do this or that, is simply in line with the delusion to reduce the stature of Nkrumah so that the political status of the shameless philanderer-adulterer, Danquah, who puts even the infamous womanizing traits of Mahama to shame, can somehow be raised to some level of public credibility. The futility of this endeavor is like attempting to build an igloo in the tropics.

The terms of the contract for building the dam were ridiculous, and could only have been agreed to by a dimwit. You support my argument by conceding that the price paid by Valco was a pittance and was renegotiated by Rawlimgs' regime.

Perhaps you don't know that despite the abundance of bauxite in Ghana, bauxite was imported from abroad to feed the Valco plant!!

In any case, you could have done better by telling us the exact amount of Ghana's treasure that went into the building of the dam; and that would still not exculpate Nkrumah from my assertion that he grossly mismanaged Ghana's economy.

Had your Danquah at the very least, not stupidly and openly, in the manner of a buffoon, associated with people who have also openly -
and contrary to the likes of you, honestly admitted that they did indeed commonly conspire to plot to kill and overthrow Kwame Nkrumah and his govt, he would have earned himself some minimal plaudits in the independence struggle.

Just like Danquah himself, some of you are actually making Danquahs case in Ghanaian history worse by thinking that Ghanaians are fools who can be easily manipulated to think that the profile of a mere treacherous terrorist can be transformed into a nationalist hero by continuously harping on misinformation and outright untruths. Mark my word, when the true and unalloyed history of the Gold Coast and Ghana comes to be re-written, the name and the reputation of Danquah will be shredded into mince-meat and rightfully consigned into the rubbish bins of history, if not into the fires of eternal damnation.

Of course, detention with or without trial, is not a pleasant measure to take in any society. But then, neither are the acts of terror, assassinations and treason which prompts and demands that firm decisions such as imprisonment, detention with or without trial or any kind of penal reprisals. These are measures of emergency that are normally taken to stem the tide of disorder, chaos, suffering and anarchy which threaten the existence of any given society.

Seeing that you are not a particularly deep thinker let me buttress this point by making this analogy. War is a most reprehensible and odious measure to take. No right-thinking human being happily entertains the thought of going to war, but when ones life, livelihood and sovereignty is threatened, one must as of necessity, go to war.

Up to the time of the independence of Ghana, your slave masters and colonial dictators had found it necessary for several hundreds of years to apply a worse form of this detention without trial process on hapless Africans who merely wanted to be free from their tyranny and oppression. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Africans suffered and died under the repressive and obnoxious colonial system. Why didnt JB Danquah, who claimed to be a lawyer, ever deal with the issue politically or legally, on behalf of his fellow Africans?

Today, with a population of less than 15% of the total national population, the ratio of African-Americans in American prisons are said to number up to about 60 to 80% of the total prison population in America. How does it happen that people of a particular racial color more easily find themselves over-represented in American prisons? Is this also not some kind of manifestation of an unfair travesty of the American legal system? Whatever it is, there is something there that is not right because God did not create the Blackman as a criminal.

Now you, Samuel Adjei Sarfo, who finds it more comfortable to live in such a country in which clearly the human rights of the Black population are randomly violated, should be up and about trying to help correct this anomaly instead of wasting all your time trying to justify the ills of a common terrorist and traitor. Or is it because the crime is being perpetrated by your slave-masters that makes it impossible for you to duly address it in your typical loud-mouthed manner? Or is it perhaps a way for you to atone for your hapless guilt that makes you look away and pretend to be preoccupied with other, nevertheless inconsequential and dead issues?

The very fact that you, Samuel Adjei Sarfo, an unknown quantity, are trying so so very hard to undermine and demean the historically established and well-known accomplishments of the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah - in the same way that Danquah and other minions of imperialism have unsuccessfully attempted to do, makes your case even more ludicrous. I can imagine that people who are even on your side of the debate will scorn your wild and intemperate outbursts.

To be brief, this is an unscholarly tirade of abuse and distortions that falls in the realm of not only abstract empiricism but also false empiricism. Reminds me of Prof George Ayittey whom I used to take on. The premises of the arguments are false and hence the conclusions also false. Take for example these:

"For the most part, the Nkrumaists have agreed that Nkrumah’s Preventive Detention Act (PDA) was wrong-headed."

Which Nkrumahist agreed to that claim? To admit that the PDA was abused is not tantamount to agreeing that it was wrong-headed when other so-called democratic countries such as the UK, India, and the US had it then and still have it in even worse forms like the Patriot Act of the USA.
And I am saying this as someone whose maternal relations provided more detainees under PDA than any other family in Ghana! They were wrongly imprisoned, of course, based on false accusations of receiving money from Olympio in order to foment secession. My father got most released b4 the coup by IGP Harlley who was married to an aunt. The records of those arrested from Anloga are in the Djabanor Committee Report of 1967 which absolved the CPP and Nkrumah of those detentions and blamed a paternal uncle of mine (name mentioned) for the arrests. Of course, I know more than you'd find in that Report or I can reveal here, since the issue is still very sensitive to many directly touched, so go to hell with your ignorant, uninformed political tainted noise at the expense of those who really suffered! Did the NLC not decree their own preventive detention under which they detained more people than those they released? So it follows that our liberators committed greater evil, right?

He continues:

The PDA was not evil. It was those who abused it by making false allegations against people they had disputes with that can be said to have committed evil acts, not the Police who were forced to act when the accusations were made; and certainly not Nkrumah who wasn't even aware of many of those arrests or didn't even know the persons at all. When shown to be false, people were released, as I had already written.

In fact, the accuser from Anloga got locked up himself when he went with the Police with another batch of victims and was released after the coup.

And I had already explained to you that Nkrumah wasn't even a dictator by the time he was overthrown, as no leader of a newly indep. African country had the capacity and capability to install what is referred to as a dictatorship in political parlance. It is simply uneducated nonsense to be claiming so. Even the coup makers themselves claimed that they acted in other to avert a "creeping dictatorship" and we need a young man like you to tell us that Nkrumah was a "brutal dictator"??? Do you think we are all gullible and unlearned like you lot?

And here he got lost in his on nominal notions completely out of sync with political history of those deemed to be heroes and accorded greatness.

The history books tell us a different story. Blood bath and tens of 100os mangled copses laid behind the march of some considered great and revered today. Yes, when Alexander, the son of Philip, slaughtered 1000s from Macedonia to India, he became known as Alexander the Great. Genghis Khan the Mongol ruler who reputedly formed the largest empire in history stretching from China to Europe? Wow! Ever wonder how he did it? Whole cities that resisted him were levelled and everyone put to death! As for the crimes of the "democratic" Western powers that the likes of SAS admired so much against the people of the Third World? Even Kennedy escalated the Vietnam War and Johnson who replaced him even went further, napalm bombing, agent orangeing, and massacring innocent women and children. I grew up with pictures of the naked girl running away from one such attack and accounts of the My Lai massacre. Nkrumah evil indeed! How many innocent people did he kill?
What sort of foolishness is this?

In recent months, it is becoming clearer to me why I heard as a kid Anlo women referring to those who get a PhD (even if SAS' is not the real McCoy) "kabi-de-ta" (got a wound in the head), while those who became medical doctors are referred to as "dorkita" (dokita). I must find time to complete my Part 3 of Intellectual Bankruptcy in Ghana. Tweah!

Daniel Pryce also managed to complete his PhD in Criminology and his most important discovery is Jesus as our saviour. And we have to thank Mzbel, a mere songstress, to bring some sanity and rationality into this religious mania gripping Africans. Folks, pardon my digression but what is really wrong with our so-called highly educated people? Such bloody, ignorant fools they appear to be!

As for the acclaimed money purportedly left for Nkrumah by the British, I had had occasion several times to point out that Nkrumah himself accumulated that reserve thanks to the unwelcome "anchor of safety" advice by Sir Arthur Lewis which led to the emergence of the NLM!!! Nkrumah got only £19m when the West African Produce Board was dissolved to give way to the CMB in 1953. You Matemeho people don't know these things? Are you all just bloody-minded loud-mouthed ignoramuses or liars and hypocrites?

So can Dr SAS and his cohort cost the assets acquired by Nkrumah in order to see whether the reserve was frittered away or not? Can they also calculate the present values of those assets, some of which successive govts have been divesting at great profits to themselves and foreigners since the overthrow of the CPP to see whether we are realising value for money invested? Let's just cost Tema Harbour and Township to give us a micro idea.

There is so much abstract nonsense here I won't go to bed if I have to deal with even half of them.

However, when I indicated that General Ankrah had indeed described Nkrumah a tyrant and that Ghanaians were fed up with his oppressive rule in a you tube documentary, his response was that Ankrah had been dismissed by Nkrumah so he was perhaps bitter. He then went on to say that he ironed his father's shirt before he went to testify in an in camera proceeding for the removal of Ankrah. I guess he thought this was relevant and answered the question of whether to coup plotters considered Nkrumah a dictator.incidentally, Kotoka and Harley were there when Ankrah called Nkrumah a tyrant.
He does this again here by suggesting that Nkrumah was not responsible of the excesses
of the PDA . He cites incarceration of his family members and towns people under the PDA as support. However, he hides behind family reasons not to delve into the specific cases and
wants us to simply take his word for it. We will not, and I submit to him that Nkrumah remains responsible of any due process abuses under respondeat superior.

Like I wrote earlier, the cocoa farmers also revolted against the decision not to boost cocoa prices at a time the world market price was hitting the roof thanks to the Korean War. That was one of the earliest mistakes of Nkrumah, otherwise we'd have achieved indep. in 1954.

Are you and your Matemeho ilk who took advantage of the grievances of the cocoa farmers proclaiming that you are ignorant of these recorded historical facts? Bloody-minded ignorant fools you are then! If you are indeed aware and pretending not to be aware, then you are bloody-minded hypocrites and liars! I have observed that we have the propensity to denigrate institutions that are foreign, and whose purpose we may not know or understand. Take for instance democracy, we love democracy even though it is foreign to our culture, why, because we are able to come to a forum like this and spill the contents of our hearts out without fear or reprisal. But one of the tenets of the same democracy provides for moral autonomy, the ability of each individual citizen to make normative choices to improve his/her well being by exercising the right to freedom of association and freedom of assembly.

If you understand and embrace the tenets of democracy, and choose to practice it to express yourself freely, then please respect Daniel Pryce's decision to exercise his freedom of association and freedom of assembly. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Freedom of expression which you enjoy so much does not supersede freedom of association or freedom of assembly. It is Daniel Pryce's prerogative to associate with christian as much as it your prerogative to exercise your freedom of expression - the two are not mutually exclusive.

My answer is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Ghanaian so-called highly educated people. Maybe you should call your friend, Daniel Pryce, and ask him why he gave his life to Christ. My own Christian journey started when I called my friend John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University and Christian Apologist, and asked the same question three years ago. After reading profusely in search of the truth for a whole year, I gave myself to Christ.

You come across as an intelligent person, spend time and look for Him and you will find Him. This is why I applaud the young girl, Mzbel. Unlike most Ghanaians who jump into the fray, I credit this young woman's deterministic approach to finding the truth no matter where the truth takes her.

So long as Daniel Pryce and his ilk have the audacity to proselytise to us and recommend Christ as the solution to our myriads of problems, they should expect a rebuttal of their beliefs and snake oil they want to smear on us from someone of us who think we know better than them.

You see, I started my search for the truth in Primary Class One when I went home and confronted my mother about the lie our teacher who happened to be our headmistress too and an aunt told us about how God created rain. I have relented since then. Have you read what I wrote in support of Mzbel?

No one can infringe upon your right to happiness and self-determination even in postmodernism, insofar as we live in a democracy. Nevertheless, our penchant for "truth" is always driven by the varying, and conflicting, claims of different philosophies through which we shape our worldview. But certainly, I am in no position to proselytize anyone, because the decision as to what to believe and what not to believe is an existential one. In other words, each individual - not society or religion - is solely responsible for giving meaning to life and living it passionately and sincerely and if your friend, Daniel Pryce, chooses Jesus Christ as the basis for living passionately and sincerely, then it becomes his existential attitude. I made that determination two years ago in search of the meaning of life, and found it in Jesus and I am glad I did.

I support Mzbel's approach to knowledge and applaud her curious predisposition. I urge her two continue to search and not stop,and she will find what she is looking for. I am sure we both agree with Mzbel, but for different reasons.

I had the opportunity to be among a group of people discussing Africa politics in the last century and to vote for whom we thought was Africa's greatest leader in the last century. I did not wink a second before voting for Mandela. Though Nkrumah's name featured in the discussions I was never inclined to vote for him and my justification was that, compared to Mandela, Nkrumah never showed any magnanimity as a human being even when his perceived foes were down and out. Whiles Mandela found it in his heart to forgive those who had blatantly offended him, and embrace them, Nkrumah could not even live under the same roof with his old friends who had become his political opponents. While Nkrumah pursued his enemies and even his own cabinet ministers on tramp up chrges, Mandela went out of his way to embrace his long time jailers. I wish to see what would have happened to the UGCC members under Nkrumah's presidency if they had any hand in incarcerating him. The fact that Nkrumah could not even remember his old friends with whom he had shared drinks and food and went out to actively pursue them for destruction showed how evil minded he was.

I also have my problems with Mandela because I am of the opinion that had Mandela not been selfish, the South African blacks and therefore South Africa would have been much better off than today. If Mandela had insisted on De klerk stay on for two years to lay strong reforms to bridge the economic gap between the blacks and whites before taking over the aparthied system in Africa would have been defeated permanently. Mandela is wrongly seen as a hero for defeating or stopping aparthied but in reality presided over encouraged aparthied by shifting the political aparthied to economic aparthied at expense of the great majority of South African blacks.

And after you say that, it ought to occur to you that from your statement alone, Nkrumah taught Mandela something useful in life, dead or alive. From that, we could conclude that Mr. Mandela's greatness was in part the result of the Nkrumah lesson(s).

However, you will agree that the cases you compare are rather different in context; that Mandela's magnanimity was long preceded by Nkrumah's ascension to power and the "perceived foes", many of whom we know, were stridently against a unitary government for Ghana, a mighty small land compared to Botha's "Kruegerland", and problem.

Suffice to say, as they tell us, "Time Heals".

But one must have time in the first place.

Further, that the "Independence Now" vision/objective that resulted in Ghana's independence back in 1957, and the multitude of newly "independent" African states that followed that singular achievement, could as well have been catalysts for the withdrawal of the "whites" in 1994.

All this to say, perhaps all Men have different missions, visions, and importance in and out of life - that when we present a contrived case ("Nkrumah versus Mandela"), we may miss some important context, including, "...tramp up chrges,..."

The problem with Africans of today is that many of us have still not yet recovered from the menial mentality of slaves.

We seem not to be able to think independently and deeply for ourselves and for our own good. Whatever we do do, we look behind our shoulders to see if it will satisfy our colonial dictators before we proceed. It is this fact that is the worse after-effects of the evil slave trade and colonialism. The unfortunate truth is that we are still largely slaves to their whims.

Having succeeded in curbing our mental faculties after over 500 years of the most depressing periods of slavery and colonization, most Africans - no matter how educated they may be, have remained slaves to European thought, instruction and behaviour. We refrain from doing anything that is not in consonance with European imperialist conduct - even if it is glaringly against our own peculiar interests.

We think according to the dictates of imperialist establishment, as informed to us by their narrow-minded eurocentric media.

Kakabo, can you please tell us what exactly it is that makes you think that Nelson Mandela is a great man above kwame Nkrumah, the man who made it possible for Mandela to achieve the little success and fame as a Freedom fighter in South Africa before he was jailed for 27 years by his imperialist oppressors?

The unfortunate truth is that Nelson Mandela failed to take the necessary action to truly free Black South Africans from economic domination (Apartheid/imperialism) after his release and subsequent installation as the first Black President of South Africa.

Nelson Mandela, who at the time of his release from 27 years of distressing mind-altering incarceration, had become mentally feeble, chose for his own selfish ends to leave the Apartheid status quo intact rather than to confront the forces of global imperialism that controlled it. We can excuse Mandela on grounds of senility and age but the bottom line is that, he failed abysmally and that is why global imperialism chose to grandiosely celebrate his birthday all over the imperialist world for him every year before he died. That is why global imperialism hold him as an icon of peace. It was not - or is not peace that Mandela pursued. Mandela chose the route of cowardice and surrender in favour of his own political survival and the benefit of the still surviving Apartheid system which is now falsely and erroneously clothed in the misleading garb of racial equality and western democracy.

I ask you, apart from Nelson Mandela, when was the last time you ever saw a white imperialist or any white man giving any kind of genuine respect to any Blackman anywhere? We all know that the only time that a (imperialist) white man, as much as smiles to a Blackman, it only means one thing - and that is when the whiteman is using that Blackman to great advantage, quite often unknown to that Blackman himself.

Anyway, by the time Nelson Mandela handed over Presidential power to those who succeeded him, the economic conditions for Black South Africans was at least three times worse than when that country was under the Apartheid govt. Of course such information is not in the interest of global imperialism so their prejudiced media - which is what we also unfortunately depend on, will not publicize it. Since then, the situation in Black South Africa has not gotten any better because what needs to be done has not been done. That is why the imperialists continue to celebrate Mandela and give him plaudits as a peaceful man and even go on to dare compare Mandela to Kwame Nkrumah. Had it not been Nkrumah, Mandela, like many other freedom fighters at the time, would never ever have been heard of. He would probably have been killed like many hundreds of thousands of other Black South Africans who resisted the Apartheid imperialist system and were killed as anonymous freedom fighters by those who refer to Mandela as a peaceful leader. This is what I call fun-fool respect or simpa panyin.

If after 500 years, our peaceful and humanistic approach has not given Africans any beneficial results from our oppressors, why is it that Mandelas so-called peaceful approach should, in spite of all its failures be seen by Africans of all people as something that should be applauded?

Now if you, Kakabo, were a President of an under-developed country of millions of poor suffering people, and you found out one day that your own finance minister, named Gbedemah was an agent of a foreign unfriendly govt that was sponsoring people to assassinate you, what would you do? Forgive him and embrace him and go and drink a beer together? By the time the Nkrumah govt was overthrown, virtually half of the members of his govt were under CIA pay to either kill him or overthrow him.

As for me, even if I found out that my wife was cheating behind me, I would not forgive her.

What was the value of Consumer bundle, GDP deflator, norminal GDP and relative shared GDP in Ghana in 1957 based on your quoted population of 5million?
