Nkrumah, who is driven by ambition to be far more than Ghana's leader, aspires to be recognized not only as the predominant African political personality but as a man to be reckoned with on the international stage. His dreams of grandeur have led to a number of attempts to make Ghana the focal point of wider African political entities -- the abortive Ghana Guinea-Mali union, the defunct Joint African High Command, and his current project of a united Africa -- all of which have foundered in the face of reality and because of the refusal of other African leaders to accord Nkrumah the position of predominance implicit in all of his schemes. Instead, Ghana has become increasingly isolated, and Nkrumah has •earned the distrust of most African leaders and has even alienated his erstwhile radical cronies in Guinea, Mali, and the UAR.

On the international scene, Nkrumah's conception of himself as a world leader has led him to make contacts with other leaders whose real or fancied friendship he values highly. His self-created role has also resulted in frequent offers of gratuitous advice in resolving non-African problems, the details and complexities of which he is largely ignorant. He has thus attempted to insert himself in the Cuban missile crisis, the Sino-Indian border conflict, the Arab-Israeli dispute, the nuclear-disarmament question, and the Vietnamese situation. Nothing has come of any of these efforts.

Although he has succeeded in projecting himself into the African and international scene to a greater extent than most African leaders, Nkrumah is considered by most world leaders to be more of a nuisance and a figure of ridicule than a statesman. These rebuffs, and Nkrumah's consequent sense of extreme frustration, are in part responsible for his policy of encouraging and abetting subversion in Africa, activity which he also rationalizes on the grounds that many African nations -- including all of his close neighbors-- do not support the radical policies which he advocates and are followed by his government."

First of all you cannot compare what happened in a military coup in a less information era vs what is happening now in a democracy. Im in no way advocating for the NDC neither im I a supportter of the mahama govt. I want a competent leader to rule Ghana for the betterment of all I will however never tolerate any tribal supremacist near any political power in Ghana. There is no doubt there are to many Northners controling the NDC now and needs to be condemn but the NPP advocating for the same based on tribal grounds and divisions and which region has what resources or not should never be a solution.

That is very dangerous. Assume NPP comes to power and the people from the less resourced regions finds a way to the top hierachy of the NPP and still controls most of the ministries will the people from the resource areas in the same NPP be happy with them? Are the Akans only complaining now because its not right for too many Northners to be in govt or they are complaining because these ministers happen to be in the NDC?

Thirdly most of our Akan brothers and sisters have used the events in the Rawlings regime to further their anger and suspicion towards Ewes and most of the time the stories are usually one sided.

As a child growing up in Accra I saw too many abuses that happened in the PNDC and must be regretted but let us not forget it was called a military dictatorship not a democracy. During this time there were a lot of Akan business that thrived during the time of Jerry Rawlings that whose names cannot be listed here. Question that we should be asking is why were some Akan businesses targeted whiles others werent?

The sad truth that many of you out of anger have chosen to ignore is that those big Akan owned business were either suspected of involvement in anti govt activities or were actually found to be supporting opposition activities at the time of a dictator and we all know how dictators all around the world behave. Where ever they see the threat they will quickly smash it.

Matter of fact there were some Northn, Ga, and Ewe business men that were also driven out of business based on the same suspicions. This just explained that the Rawlings govt didnt just go after Akan business because they were simply Akan, it did so based on where they saw the threat coming from. There were also a ot of Akan bunisess men that worked and heavily profited from the Rawlings govt which we often dont talk about.

Divisive politics have never helped any society and we care for the future of this nation we need to careful of our utterances. At least Kwame Nkruma, Acheampong, and Rawlings are right. They preeicted that a Western style multi party democracy was not good for Africa and they are right.

I have listened to the tape played, and I honestly think that Osafo Marfo was making an emphatic frank statement.
The only issue is that, his failure to go straight in stating the obvious fact, to point out the barefaced fact happening in this Mahama-led administration is the problem.

What I believe Osarfo Marfo intended to speak about which didn't come out clearly and understandably was the real fact happening in Ghana in this govt, and I believe must be spoken about.

This in the sense that, during Kufuor's administration, the NDC newspapers listed the names of all the top officials in the gov't bearing Akan names, whether the person was from Volta region with Akan name or from western, Eastern, but as long as the person bears an Akan name, the Kufuor's administration was finally christened as Akans gov't, giving credence to their old weak-minded argument that the NPP is an akan/Ashanti party.

They even pointed out that Kufuor intentionally failed to fill somebody from Upper East/West in his administration, arguing Kufour claims there was no qualified person from that region. Very tribal argument, but that was allowed to stick in the minds of Ghanaians.

What I understand Osafo Marfo wanted to point out, which is a fact in NDC/Mahama administration is that, people from the indigenous Akan regions have been sidelined/neglected or not filled at-all in any of the top positions in this administration. That is a fact and it's unquestionable. This trend is downright traceable from Atta Mills to Mahama's govt. The question is, who then are occupying the top positions in the NDC/Mills/ Mahama administrations? Aren't only most people from the three northern regions and those from Volta region? Is this not noticeable fact in these administrations, and the NPP should not make politics out of it? Why not?

This is a conspicuous fact, which if it is the NDC, they would have made huge political capital out of it as they did when NPP was in power.

Yes, I understand it bothers on tribalism and must be played carefully, which in my opinion, Osarfo Marfo played it carefully, but it is also a gospel true that this has been happening, which NPP should have made or must also make political issue about it. Nothing wrong with that.

To be frank, at that closed door meeting, am sure Osarfo Marfo wanted to sensitise the people in those areas to be extremely angry at John Mahama for his purposely neglect of them by mere reason of the fact that they are autochthonous Akans. He added that, even though, those regions provide most of the country's highest resources which the government uses to manage us all. This argument is simply undeniable fact.

At least I recall that, recently, the NDC/Mahama govt was forced to hearken to the agitations made by some NDC youths supported by some opinion leaders in Western region that, the Minister of Energy MUST come from their region because the Ghana Jubilee Oil field is on their land. This, the Mahama govt paid attention to that and appointed somebody from that region as the Minister for Energy. Was this not regional and tribal political decision?

The question again is, can all the other regions, particularly the Ashanti, Esatern, BA regions demand that same because their regions suffice the nation with all the other major resources and for that matter, they should also be given the ministers for Lands, Mines, Agriculture and Forestry, since they produce Gold, Timber, Manganese, Cocoa and even most of local food stuff? Wouldn't it be fair on them regions too to have ministers solely coming from there?

Again, some members in the NDC/Mills/Mahama gov't told Ex-Prez Kufour point blank that, he is NOT Ga, and not from greater Accra and for that matter Kufour can't own office in Accra, simply bcos he's not Ga native, therefore if he has ended his tenure as President of Ghana, he should go back to Kumasi.

With this, Solomon Nkansah, the current NDC Communications Officer, on Peace FM 6 O'clock news bulletin, opined openly that, Kufour should rather think of having his office in Kumasi bcos that's where he hails from, adding if Kufour dares them to have his office in Accra Ridge, they will uproot him like Cassava from his office, all because Kufour is Not Ga (y3 b3tu Kufuor s3 bankye), that was his comment. This unfortunate situation happened in Ghana Accra, which even infuriated some NPP youths in Western/Eastern regions that they would block all rooads, they wouldn't allow any Timber car to pass carrying any timber to Accra.

Again, under the NDC Prez Atta Mills, their members openly argued that they do NOT want any Akan name to be put on any national asset in greater Accra. With these threats, they even pressed vehemently that the name Ohene Djan, the man from Aburi who's name was put on Accra Sports Stadium should be changed just because the name sounds too Akan.

The word "Akwaaba" written in Akan language to welcome people arriving at the Kotoka International Airport, a Chief in Accra-La, also openly asked that the word Akwaaba should be scrapped and replace with a Ga translated word to welcome people at the airport, to reflect them, saying the twi language has become too popular. The La chief added that the Airport is on their Land therefore the welcoming language should be in Ga, he never complained about "You Are Welcome" which is also written in English language there. The chief also never complain about the name "Kotoka", to be changed. The question is why? Wasn't it interesting?

JJ Rawlings who has had his office peacefully in Accra Ridge all these while was never asked to go back to Ho in the Volta because he's also not Ga. Why Kufour alone?

That is the core issue which need to be tackled than this hypocritical attitude shown towards Osarfo Marfo's comment. What did he say wrong?

This same John Mahama openly, Not in private, told Northerners that they should vote for him because he's the one from North during the 2012 campaign, Mahama even added that, "if the NPP want votes from the Northern region, they should think of choosing somebody from the North for the general elections. Wasn't that serious tribal comment?

John Jerry Rawlings also openly told the people of Volta region that, "they should never vote for these NPP people because they are our (voltarians) enemies". What was this comment about, is it not tribal comment? Did any one hear NDC members condemning Rawlings?

The late Atta Mills also openly told the pple in Central region that, he Atta Mills is from Central region, they should vote for him because "Adze wofie a oye." Is this comment different from what John Mahama said in the North during the campaign?

E.T Mensah said on NDC campaign platform that, if any Ga native votes for NPP, it means you are like a dead sheep (odwan a wawuo na ob3to aba ama NPP on the Ga land), that was E.T Mensah's comment. Was he condemned by NDC members?

A chief in Volta region is able to stand at an open gathering to promise Mahama that, you know, at last elections, I promised to deliver 100,000 votes for you, but I managed only 80,000, but I can promise you again that at the next elections I will get more than the 100,000 I promised earlier. What a lot of naaansense promise!! Did you hear any NDC member or any civil opinion leader condemning this senseless promise by the chief?

These and more are the tribal cards the NDC has played on NPP in Ghana, but when fortunately or unfortunately, one of our own member in NPP makes a similar statement or anything relating to tribal, then that is when you see our own members in NPP castigating and condemning tribal politics in Ghana, making our own resign to himself for making tribal related comment. Why, are we the only holy political party in Ghana?

Our attitude shows that, the NDC have the right to openly play tribal politics but the NPP have absolutely No right, we can't! ... Why?

This is already part of our body politics in Ghana, the NPP should not play any holier than thou attitude and think of winning any general elections in Ghana. Until we see that the NDC members begin to see that it is Not a good practice, then it must be played by all. Simple!!

It baffles me that, some NPP Akan members are able to openly confront their own king's and chiefs when they play politics or when they are wrong, but same NPP members from other tribes would never like to make any comment about their tribe opinion leaders, even when they are wrong. The question is WHY? What a hypocrisy!!

Osarfo Marfo meant good, we shouldn't chastise him. He was speaking to energise those people in the area to work hard and to be extremely angry for power and at John Mahama, for purposely neglecting them because of their Akans congenital.

Does it mean that any time a tribal comment is made by our leaders, even in closet, somebody there should record it and play it out, for us to chastise our own..., Why?

Osafo Maafo's tape was doctored and NDC can do that with ease. Couple of days ago, did you hear Fred Agbenyo saying that they have spies all over the place and they even know what is going on in Nana Addo's bedroom? You people should stop fooling yourself as if NDC will rule forever. The founder of your party, in his heydays as a revolutionary leader, was asked, "Will you hand over", and his answer was " to whom"? Unquote, is he still the president?

Why do you think Osafo Maafo will look into the eyes of the elders of the party and make that disparaging remarks knowing the consequences that comes with it.

Remember that the party elders who met that fateful day, were not only Ashantis and Akyems. They are elders who comes from all the tribes across the country. NDC should accept the fact that they have doctored the tape and I will pray the Osafo Maafo will not apologize to no one.

Foolish people trying to divert attention from the problems facing the nation. NDC love fanning tribal flames as if they are immune to it. Do you remember Nii Lantey Vanderpuye issuing threats to people with Akan names from registering in his constituencies? What did you say about that? Where were you when Mahama said that he is a northerner so his people should vote for him? Did you condemn that?

Just think of it, Paul Afoko was at a recent press conference, had to be rescued from some irate party supporters wielding cudgels and threatening his life, who thought he had no right to call a press conference to explain matters of importance to the rank and file of the party and Ghanaians in general" according to initial NDC press, it was AFOKO and Agyapong who were chased, but for the writer to plant his toxic tribal bomb in the gullible mind of his followers he eliminated Agyapongs name. My advice to all Northerners and right thinking EWE's is that, we are in the 21st century and nobody should allow these kinds of nonsense to go on. Akans cannot do anything to EWE's or northerners. Despite all NDC political nonsense which started from butcher Rawlings, we have lived peacefully together and continue to do so. Ametor's long diatribe falls flat on it's face, when issues of governance, leadership, fairness, equity, development and progress is critically analyzed in terms of the country called Ghana.
For the first time ever in the history of this country, as a result of bad, putrid and stinking leadership and governance under the NDC gov't led by John Mahama, Western and Central region chiefs staged a very strong protest and dared the Volta region chiefs to lay any claim to any oil and gas resources found in the Volta region, since although producing quite a chunk of Ghana's natural resources including it's new found oil resources, their regions were the least developed.
It did not help matters when John Mahama had cause to state point blank to his Vice Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur from the Central region, that left to him alone, he Amissah Arthur would not be his Vice.
That was a shocker and indeed, served to cement the lack of equity that had all along been gnawing at the very fabric of Ghana's development under the Mahama-led NDC gov't which had led to the wasteful and corrupt misappropriation of funds at the expense of it's prudent and judicious application in addressing the socio-economic and development objectives of the country in fair, transparent and equitable manner.
Not to be left out of this state of despondency and leadership crisis undergirded by the wanton and reckless looting of state resources was the Asantehene, who was so moved to voice out against the lack of equity and fairness in the Mahama-led NDC gov't when he stated that, it had come to his notice that, his subjects and those within his kingdom and domain, were being marginalized, ostracized, discriminated against by the Mahama-led NDC gov't.
Ghana has clearly been had for a song whilst it's resources are looted indiscriminately by the Mahama-led NDC gov't and employing the worst kind of ethnocentrism to tear the very strong bonds that hold Ghanaians together as one people with a common destiny, as one people with the same aspirations and hopes for a good and prosperous life co-existing peacefully and lovingly with one another.
As a result of mismanagement, incompetence, corruption, bad governance and leadership, Ghana is today mired in the worst and most terrible kind of economic and financial crisis which threatens the collective destiny of this country and it's development in a fair and equitable manner.
However, Ghanaians have wised up to the NDC politics of looting whilst knocking the heads of Ghanaians together on the altar of ethnocentrism and tribalism, and the popular refrain is never again would Ghanaians allow themselves to be taken for such a reckless ride into the abyss and the employment of ethnocentrism to break the bonds that exist between all the different tribes of Ghana who have very strong familial bonds and exist as one family with a common destiny.
It is time to massively reject and jettison the politics of mismanagement, looting, corruption and incompetence which has led to lack of equity and fairness in the judicious and prudent application of our resources in our development paradigm and the politics that seeks to sever the strong bonds that hold us together as one people under God with a common destiny by those who seek to profit and are profiting from the status quo.
Ghana deserves the best.
