Apparently, some members of Ghana’s Armed Forces did not get the memo in basic training about acting decorously in public...If Ghanaian soldiers are perpetually agitated because of inactivity, then the government should send them en masse on peacekeeping missions...The Ghanaian military’s culture of violence and terror ought to be replaced with a culture of respect for citizens..."
OUR COMMENT: Nothing to add, except to say that "Bored" could rotate between "Peacekeeping" and Building/Reconstructing public infrastructure, including constructing their own housing and roads.

In civilized societies, any time you see a soldier among civilians, then it is because they have been deployed in times of crisis, disaster, etc to HELP the civilians. Or when you see a soldier in uniform outside the barracks, he is going to, or coming from, work and he carries no weapons then. He behaves in such a way that the civilians around him/her will rather feel secure that there's a uniformed man around who will save theme if someone attacks or harasses them. They will not be afraid of the uniformed man.
In civilized societies, your best friends are the uniformed policemen in your midst. The police are humble, friendly and ready to lend a helping hand. But that doesn't mean if you do something wrong, they won't apprehend you. Even then, they will use force if only the criminal shows violent behaviour (except they are US policemen!!!).
ONLY in Ghana (and other third world countries) are these civilized ways of behaviour turned upside down. Only in Ghana do civilians start shivering even if they only see a soldier or policeman passing by going somewhere else.
Only in Ghana are we afraid of uniformed men because we know the violence they can visit upon us for no reason. Only in Ghana do uniformed men want everybody to be afraid of them because they are in uniform!!!
Because in Ghana, we like showing off tooooo much. Everybody wants to show that they are something better than their neighbour. Political office holders do it to the people they are leading. Bosses in office do it to their subordinates. Celebrity radio announcers do it to innocent girls whom they deflower in hotel lavatories. And even on ghanaweb, people appear with long degrees after their names to show others that they are something above the ordinary who must feared, respected, and obeyed.
Only in Ghana!!!

Wow a great piece..........Gradually its becoming alarming now. I have wondered whether GAF have a functional unit that investigates and manage some of these 'excesses'.
Quite recently a group in Green military uniforms led by one 'ALHAJI' who happens to be an Ex WO and the head of the Lakeside Security Guards went to destroy the defense wall to a property within the Lakeside community with 'impunity',the question is-are these 'uniformed men' involved in land guard operations too?. The case was reported to the GAF and the Adentan Police and as we speak nothing was heard. Who gave these security guards the right to put on the green uniforms if they are really not members of GAF.
I am appealing to the GAF high command to sit up and check these excesses the sooner the better to protect the image of the GAF.
