Another solution is to explain to prospective students the schools' expectations, their rights and responsibilities and the schools should make them sign contracts prior to admission or enrollment.

I am all for religious tolerance. In fact, as a Christian, one of my best friends is a Muslim. We shared the same bed at the university. I just made sure to respect him and his faith. Even though he told me I could read his Qu'ran, and I wanted to, I desisted. This is because I observed that he performed ablution before he read his Holy Book. I was not ready to do ablution, so couldn't touch it. Likewise, I made sure to stop any noise whenever he had to pray, and not disturb him in any way. He did the same to me, and we remain very good friends. Mutual respect!
As a show of faith, the Islamic schools should be prepared to allow Christian worship, in all its forms in their schools, including drumming, loud praises and worship,dancing and evangelism.
When they realise that the Christian mission schools are started as a way of evangelizing and propagating the Christian faith, they will understand, and stay away from those schools if they are not ready to tolerate the "religious" things they do overthere.

However, This writer and all Ghanaians interested in this religious debate must step back or step forward into the future with this question in mind- what if after this concession, the Moslems as their history has revealed in other countries continue to press for more of their rights in other areas or having to force Christians to make more concessions to let say- leading to the removal of devotions from the school's curriculum or worse, then what?

It is this "give an inch, they take mile" syndrome that I hope does not become the way forward for the Ghanaian Moslem....Better yet, I hope that Ghana's native Moslems ( who are known to be moderate and cooperative) are not being negatively influenced from outside forces to test the waters first with this issue and then try to cross with other more drastic requests later...if you know what I mean... Well, TIME WILL TELL..

Next time, they will argue that without their hijab, they are being taunted, haunted etc and they should be given the right to cover their heads or whatever then they will demand a separate homeland.

This morning devotion and the hullabaloo it has engendered amongst Ghanaians, clearly attest to the fact that the Faith-based institutions - whether Christians or Muslims in the country - have failed in their mission to produce "good Christians" and "good Muslims".

Seriously how many Christian youths pray every night, go to church on Sundays or Saturdays, stay at home to do chores for parents, and are of good behaviour? And how many Muslim youths pray five times, attend Friday worship, do chores for parents, and are of good behaviour?

And the increase in corruption in the country indicates that our churches & mosques are not doing a good job. So don't expect our mission schools to handle our shortfalls in Faith, that is contributing immensely indiscipline amongst our youths both Christians, Muslims & others.

I will not attend a Muslim school to cause trouble knowing being a Christian in that institution will cause distraction among others. Further more, the government should leave the mission schools alone to operate within their charter.

I know all colleges of education in Nigeria are owned by the government(both State and Federal) and so if such kraming( rote recitations) are happening there no problem since similar things happen in government owned schools in Ghana too. What we are saying here is all about morning devotion in missionary schools. Will Muslim schools allow traditionalists to pour libation in their schools? These are the issues that have divided Nigerians along religious and tribal lines. If the unnecessary agitations of the Muslim youth is heeded to we are going to see the upsurge of quasi-occultic groups like palm wine drinkers association, Sea Dogs, Pirates,etc in our educational institutions as is happening in colleges across Nigeria. It is unfortunate Opanin K. Mensah did not mention existence of all these dangerous occultic groups in Nigerian Colleges.

Also in the same news was a report that some people have formed Boko Haram in some part of the Western Region rather unfortunately this issue was denied. It is in the same region which some Muslims demonstrated to protest their displeasure over compulsory church service policy in some Senior High Schools. The question now is, is it only in the Western Region this is going on or what. Let us not take things for granted the security should be on top and be on the look for those trouble makers who wanted to take us for rid.

Religion and worship is a private matter. It is the job of the parent in the house, in their places of worship, outside the public space.

Public schools should not be in the business of promoting religion and religious worship, period!

I expected better from a one time teacher of a training college. The example of that training college in Nigeria does not reflect the issues of mission schools which is what the debate is about. Neither is that training college a representative sample of Nigerian schools. At the core of mission schools is religious ethos and ethics whether those mission schools are muslim or christian. While the focus of the debate is on christian mission schools there are lessons to learn from what is happening in muslim schools such as those run by the Ahmadis in the country. Rather than running home to the constitution I believe a much more enduring solution is one that will be found from dialogue between the leaders of the different faiths in the country and not some directive from the powers that be, least of all learning from boko haram Nigeria. Tweeaa!!!
