Under their responsibility and protection, Nkrumah used the platform to become a public face of the group and his popularity soared. This was because; many of the people in those days could not differentiate between spokespersons and leaders, and therefore saw him as the leader or the only person fighting for our independence. On the other hand, Nkrumah also used the platform to drum up support for himself underground, scheming to betray the group because he was a communist and they were democratic liberal conservatives. Subsequently, when he heard from the Governor General's female secretary, who was later sacked, that the British had been preparing to grant us independence, he increasingly used needless militant tactics to provoke the Whiteman when the wind of change was already blowing, and to embarrass his employers in order to outfox them. He then used the opportunity to break away from the group, formed his own party, and slapped them from behind to take power.

Kingsford, I think the writer knows that Kwame Nkrumah did not study to earn the PhD degree from uni, Nkrumah was given an honorary doctorate degree, not proper one.

Nkrumah went to England in 1945 and enrolled at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He undertook the study of law but failed the course, probably as a result of his many outside activities in student organizations. He helped set up the fifth Pan-African Congress, held in Manchester in 1945, which endorsed a program of revolutionary rather than evolutionary African nationalism. During his stay in the UK, he was sought out by leftists and Communists and learned much from them about organization and agitation•: He has, however, vigorously denied ever having been a member of •the Communist Party, although he attended meetings in London.

Are you not completely out of tune with your comment. The comment was questioning why the full name of Kwame Nkrumah was not used whilst others were fully used and not questioning titles even though Ako Adjei had the honorarium from the same University it was convenient for him to title him Doctor. And J B Danquah was a graduate of university of London and not oxford.
It is obvious from the write up that the writer is a typical example of why historical accounts must always be taken with a pinch of salt especially when it is coming from a writer who is either too bias to be objective or had completely skewed his recent history for cabbage.

You see,the word Ghana means "Land of Gold" that is what history tells us about ancient Ghana Empire. You can check on the the internet. Therefore,it has nothing to do with Akan tribe but it brings to mind that gold is found evrywhere not only at the coastal areas.I will say it was a mere modification, considering the map of Ghana today. Then again let me make it clear here, the word sudan means "the land of black people in Arabic. The greatest ancient civilisation among the black people in the Western Sudan was found in Mali. All the 3 ancient empires were found around Mali.I am saying Mali because that was the of the Black Kings.Don't let anybody make a mistake, thinking that Ghanaians migrated from the Republic of Sudan,it's never true.Mali was a great empire and its borders spreaded along great part of West Africa. The Arabs call all these areas sudan, the land of black people.Thank you.

BOY KOFI,
How are you doing?
You are right. The article has too many factual errors. All I can say for now is that the author should have delved into human geography, Egyptology, classical African history, comparative linguistics, migration studies and migration patterns, archeology, philology, etymology, speleology, language formation, socio-linguistics, carbon-dating techniques, genetic mixing, etc., before taking of this subject.
The author could also have done himself a favor by thoroughly studying what the so-called Timbuktu Manuscrpts have revealed, thus far, about about the African past, particularly as it relates to West Africa, including questions of ethnicity, race, language formation, socio-linguistics, marriage patterns, etc.
As for the origin of the name "Ghana," the author may want to read Abu Ubayd al-Bakri's "The Book of Routes and Kingdoms," as well as the writings of Muhammad al-Khwarrizmi, a Persian mathematician after whom "algorithm" and 'algebra" are named, and Ibrahim al-Fazari's book "Al-Masudi's." These are just three of Arab-Persian geographers, writers, and "scholars" known as the earliest writers who used the name "Ghana"
Moreover, Dr. Paul Amuna has privided another useful information regarding the choice of "Ghana" as the new name for the Gold Coast:
"Hmmmm, Hmmmm, without wishing to add to it, may I simply and humbly clarify and set the record straight that it was NOT Joseph Boakye Danquah who proposed the name Ghana for our nation, but in fact, Kwame Nkrumah. Apparently the two had had discussions about this, and JB decided to go do his own search and this is what the World Biographical Encyclopedia has listed under JB Danquah in respect of this claim: "His historical research led him to agree with Dr Kwame Nkrumah's proposition that on independence the Gold Coast be renamed Ghana after the early African empire of that name" (Source: Joseph B. Danquah", Encyclopaedia of World Biography). I hope we can all lay this one to rest once and for all and I also hope for historical records, if this is to be taught to children in our schools, that the correct claims can be made."
Time is not on my side to refute a number of the erroneous claims here. This will come at a later date. For now, let this suffice!
Thanks.

Everybody has right to voice out his opinion in democracy but it must be factual and reasonable.I don't know where the author got to know that the chiefs signed the Bond of 1844 with a view to give British 100 years to rule the Gold Coast.I am very curious about this because some historians, scholars and politicians believe that the independence of Gold Coast was the result of 2nd World War.
Finally,I totally disagree with the author for saying Ghana's independence day is not worth celebrating.I think this is an insult to all of us and mostly to our forefathers. You can't evaluate human freedom with material things, the value is not the same at all.Thank you.
