It is astonishing that there are people in the ruling USELESS NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS PARTY who think WAYOME deserve the money illegally paid to him. Some have come out to make that clear. How many still believe the same but are silent remain unknown, but it is clear with the way HONOURABLE MARTIN AMIDU, HONOURABLE WITH THE TRUE MEANING OF THE WORD, is seen and treated by the NDC party tells what their stand is in this matter. HOW A POLITICAL PARTY THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE INTEREST OF GHANAIANS CAME THIS FAR, STILL PUZZLES ME. Is the Ghananian population dominated by fools? I mean people who are only interested in licking boots of politicians and getting 'akpetteshie and a few other handouts once in every four years, or they are simply dominated by lazy tribes who discriminates against other tribes that are hardworking, and as such will do everything for all of us to remain poor? (ni eborwor f33) kind of attitude. Why will people be on the side of someone who attempts to dupe Ghana, and sideline A GOOD CITIZEN LIKE MARTIN AMIDU who had fought for the return of Ghana's money? This money can change the lives of children of poor people whose children still study under trees in today's world, but whose vote matters very much every four years but are not human beings thereafter. So, my question is: IS THE NDC PARTY RULING TODAY A GANG OF PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE TO FILL THEIR POCKETS AND LEAVE US IN A WORSE CONDITION THAN THEY MET US? if your answer is ''I THINK SO'' then please VOTE OUT THE USELESS NDC PARTY IN 2016, BECAUSE THEY ARE OF NO USE TO US.

A corollary of Prof. Dompere’s methodological approach to African problems is his frequent use of everyday cultural symbols and memes, an approach similar to those who developed the Theory of Relativity using pedestrian materials, such as clocks and trains and their mechanical behaviors, to formulate frames of cosmological theories for exploring and explaining extraterrestrial phenomena. In doing so, Prof. Dompere invariably directs Africa to either take a closer look at her immediate environment or take a deep look within herself for some of the hidden truths about herself, including, but not limited to, the causation of her internal tensions and their correlative effects on her political economy, growth and development, corruptibility of African leadership, patriotism, direction as well as destination of her scientific and technological advancement in the twenty-first century.

A good take, we must say, Contemporary Youth!

For us, all we can now say is "Wow"!

There is a lot to unpack and reflect on, with respect to Professor Kwarteng's latest essay. !

So, if we are talking about development and what Dr. Nkrumah said and published, and what Dr. Dompere has written about (largely from citations Professor Kwarteng has made available to us at least), our biggest take-aways are certainly in Paragraph 13, the "policy sub-section".

So, this is how we see it all:

"...(I)ntimate familiarity with the political economy of cultural aesthetics...is not enough to move Africa forward.
(But)...information technology...STEM...democracy...gender equality...environmental consciousness; resisting superstition, religious dictatorship, and corruption, ...(promoting quality) universal education...parenting...public health...public services...food security; protection of (Ghana)/Africa’s strategic interests; investment in research, development, training, data collection and data analysis(;) and combating...illicit drug infestation of Ghanaian politics and society...(A)ll of these are).. part of...policy...strategies...which we have... advanced in...previous essays..."

All of that we agree!

However, we will not include "... strengthening the private sector" or "responsible journalism", unless we are talking about government funded journalism, which in that case, we will replace "responsible" with "critical".

Further, we believe that when we do as above, "...(A)ll of these...policy...strategies...", we will be promoting private enterprise by default...and "improved standard of living and of quality of life" will follow, as a result.

As well, we would tweak "combating illicit drug infestation of Ghanaian politics and society, etc." by also ensuring drug policy and sentencing for violations are sound, which they are not, at present.

Finally, we would schedule "...promoting scientific skepticism among the citizenry" to the next development phase(s), to the extent superstition and religious fanaticism are currently the biggest detractors to critical thinking and independence among the people, especially wicked among Ghanaian girls and women.

Well, I agree with all your comments. I only want to add that my passing statement on "responsible journalism" [and "strengthening the private sector)] relates to state media and the private media, however remote we want to see the connection or otherwise.

I think there is the temptation of the state media to be less critical of the state (and the excesses of political appointees), to exaggerate the achievements of the state, and to be overly critical of the private media, etc.

On the other hand I also believe the private media is more likely to misinform the public on issues related to the state, to exaggerate the potential of the Opposition to make governance better and of the private sector, and to underestimate its own weaknesses, and so on.

This explains why I separated "responsible journalism" and such others from the private sector. I did not want to give that overlap analytic prominence in my piece.

In the main, our concern is about media that incite violence, or hatred. That would not be "responsible" media in any country.

Many times, it is the scoundrel of a politician who complains about "responsible" journalism, about their personal behavior. In particular, we believe that the "defamation" law in Ghana vis a vis politicians, people in government, and people who were once in government, is largely anti-democratic.

The private sector, even their journalists, are in the business of making money, their responsibility, so to speak. So, it is not their responsibility to promote the public development agenda, per se, contrary to what we often hear some people say.

I will disagree with you diametrically.For a simply reason,Legon produces more Administrators, Political Scientists,Economists,Lawyers and Doctors etc.I think Cape Vars does the same thing as well.I will not expect graduates from these 2 Universities to spearhead Science and Technology transformation because they lack the technicalities in this field.I will agree with you on the hand because when the United States started the Space exploration with Russia in 1965,they created NASA.The credit goes to John Kennedy,the late President was not an engineer but he established a special fund for American Scientists to run NASA and catch up with their Russian counterparts who have already made some significant progress in space travel to the moon since 1961.At long last,Americans conquered the space by sending Apollo 11 to land on the moon in 1969.How I wish I could help in this direction.Thank you.

Seriously, it is a question we have been thinking about lately.

So, if "Legon produces more Administrators, Political Scientists,Economists,Lawyers and Doctors," what is their role/contribution in/to the Ghana development and governance malaise?

Can we say that given public resources expended on Legon, Ghana would be in a far worse place without Legon, compared to other Universities and Colleges, and outlays of expenditures on those?

But, as Professor Kwarteng will probably agree, we may not have any research/data on that type of question, in Ghana.

You will agree those are fair questions, though, right?
