I am not diminishing President Jonathan patriotic gesture, the man deserves all the kudos he is getting but that does not mean vote rigging that the Ndc embarked on in 2012 should not have been challenged.
Ndc should not think about repeating what it did in 2012 in 2016 with the belief that President Jonathan good gesture will be emulated in Ghana. Nigeria had a rig free election and if Ghana can have the same, then there will be no need to resort to the judiciary.

My fellow, OKATAKYIE SARPONG, I have to agree with your opinion on President Goodluck Jonathan's concession speech. Yes, Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan should be congratulated for graciously conceding defeat to Opposition candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. However, looking at this another way, I believe President Jonathan had no other choice than to accept defeat.
Inevitably, as it became clearer to President Jonathan that his PDP was unlikely to overturn the massive poll margin of Buhari's APC, he simply had to accept defeat. And, of course, there was no possibility of his PDP 'influencing' Chairman of the INEC, Professor Jega in manipulating the final results. The game was up. That is why President Jonathan conceded defeat so swiftly. At least, Goodluck Jonathan could have waited until Chairman of the INEC, Professor Jega announced the final results and then accept defeat.
Nigeria has embraced Democracy. Ghana can learn some lessons from Nigeria.

Dr. Pryce,

Behind the success of the Nigerian election was Prof. Atahiru Jega, whose integrity and dignity saved that great nation from literal implosion. While he was announcing the results, a man interrupted the proceedings for a whole ten minutes, and as I watched in bated breath, I continued to wonder why the security people did not take him out. I would have ordered the man's expulsion and probably caused confusion. But Prof. Jega knew better; he patiently listened to the man's rant, insults and accusations to the very end and then gave him a very sensible answer.
Prof. Jega's conduct in the face of extreme provocation is a great lesson we could all use. His integrity and dignity also account for the confidence people reposed in the election.
And so at a time when the architects of the Nigerian post election peace are being praised, we cannot forget the great character displayed by Prof. Jega who is now my idol in integrity, dignity and endurance.
For sure, President Jonathan's concession brought tears of joy to my eyes, but so also did the unflappability of Prof. Jega, a true Nigerian whose character epitomizes that of the greatness of his people.

The beauty of Nigeria's democratic dispensation follows after the political theories of Osagyefo Dr. J.B. Danquah and aptly repudiates the fascist philosophy of Francis Kwame Kofi Nweah Ngolomah Nkrumah.

The problem in Nigeria is that there are too many "wise men",hence the mayhem.
Don't you see how they behave in Ghana? No civilized country can exist like this for long without imploding!

Jonathan conceded not so much out of his magnanimity or love for his country. The circumstances were such that he couldn't do otherwise.
This time, the Nigerians used technology to reduce cheating to its barest minimum. It was more difficult to stuff the ballot boxes than before.
Then the margin of victory was just too much to paper over. SARPONG has made that argument beautifully. And they had an electoral commissioner who was not bought by one side (or?). SAS' input was on the commissioner.
Often when Nigerian (or African, for that matter) presidents cheat, it is not so much the head of state who wishes it. It is the hangers on who stand to lose a lot who urge the sitting Presidents to cheat or contest the elections. A similar thing happened in our last elections. I am sure left to Akufo-Addo alone, he would not have contested the result in the Supreme Court even if he may have railed against it. It was the hangers on who urged him to contest the results. It is those same hangers on who are still urging him to stand a third time even though he is old and doesn't look very healthy (let's face that fact). These hangers on, who, themselves, stand no chance of winning the presidency, stand to gain a lot materially by the victory of the candidate they are sponsoring.
We have to praise Jonathan for being able to overcome the hangers on who may have urged him to resort to foul means to mess things up. Unfortunately, our own Akufo-Addo couldn't withstand the pressures from his own hangers on who urged him to stand again, not for his (Akufo-Addo's) sake but for their own sakes. They stand to benefit from his presidency.
It is the same hangers on who pushed Atta Mills to his death. The man was very ill but the hangers on would not hear of that, lest they lose their own positions.
A similar thing happened in Kenya too with the old and ailing Kibaki hanging on to power even though he clearly lost an election leading to the violence and the deaths. I am sure if it was left to Kibaki alone, he would have bowed out gracefully. But his hangers on wouldn't have any of that.
This is the bane of African politics. Even Nkrumah, with all the power he had at his disposal, couldn't prevent his ministers and party stalwarts from being corrupt. In the end, they became far richer than he was.
Often, it is not so much the greed of the head of state that is killing us in Africa (except in the case of Mobutu and Kufuor). It is the greed of the hangers on.
But I am sure Jonathan has stashed away a lot to live on for the rest of his life. He, at a relatively young age, will become an elder statesman. And if the Nigerians learned something from the Ghanaians, his end of service benefits will be enormous. Or was it the Ghanaians rather who learned that from the Nigerians?
