The logical question therefore is, "What leadership experience and commonsense did Nkrumah gather abroad that qualified him, like all those leaders you mention, to lead a whole nation?

The qualities of leadership are compassion, forgiveness, love, gratitude, justice, humility......And I agree with your thesis that these qualities are not earned in the classroom. But Nkrumah lacked all of these as evidenced by his record of dictatorship!

You also state:

Nkrumah made some extra money lecturing, working as a library assistant, selling fish, waiting in cafeterias (or dining halls), working in a mortuary, writing reports for his fellow students for a fee, and preaching in the Philadelphia and Harlem to supplement the scholarships he won as a result of his academic brilliance.

My comment: There is nothing wrong with any of Nkrumah's menial occupations while here in America. In fact, when I came to America in 2002, I myself applied to work in a funeral home with the aim of bathing dead bodies like Nkrumah, but I was not hired.....I have no problem with how people begin in America. But it matters how they end. And with Nkrumah, he ended up a mere pauper after over thirteen years here in America and in the UK. He had no building nor vehicles nor wealth as some of us have acquired over the same period of time that Nkrumah was here. In fact, yesterday, when I was buying my brand new Nissan Altima 2015,(the 14th vehicle I have purchased here), I was wondering whether Nkrumah ever shipped a single car to Ghana....

Nkrumah had no experience in a management capacity to qualify him to rule a hen coop, let alone a whole country. Hence he made more mess than all the Ghanaian leaders combined. Therein lies the nexus plexus of our argument that he was ill-prepared as a leader.

Nkrumah's "my way or the highway" leadership style is not worth emulating. Many ghanaians who understood the true meaning of freedom rejected Nkrumah because he took away freedon of movement, freedom of expression and freedom of association. No matter how well intentioned, Nkrumah was wrong in taking away the people's liberty and their right to determine their own destiny. Nkrumah's failure was his inability to build consensus with those who disagreed with him. Great politicians are those who who are able to reach across the political divide to make a deal. After all we are not all supposed to think alike all of the time. If that happens then something is just not right.
Nkrumah was his own enemy not Danquah or Busia. He's the reason Ghana is still mired in the retrogression of the past because he inspired the bunch of uninspiring and visionless leaders of this generation who want to rule but cannot think outside the box. Examples are Rawlings, Mills and Mahama. That's Nkrumah's legacy.

Nkrumah didn't believe in material things he thought about liberating his people (Ghana and Africa) and that he exactly did. He had an aim and God helped him accomplish that vision. SAS should be thankful for "coming to America"!

I live in a place where the government actively discourages people from owning cars or if they own one, to drive it as little as possible. The public transport is sooo good that you won't, yourself, want to own a car. Even parliamentarians take public transport to parliament!!!

Yet this country produces one of the poshest cars in the world! The other car they produce is good too but not as posh.

For a person flaunting his scholarship to Africa and the world, Nkrumah was ironically the alter-ego of several characters in fictional narratives or tragic drama. In the first place, Nkrumah is pretty much like Kurtz, the character in Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” who set out to civilize the natives of Congo only to find himself sucked into the depth of their savage culture. The only difference is that Kwame Nkrumah was a Black man. Nkrumah was the Great Leader in Ayi Kwei Armah’s “The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born”, under whose watch fecal corruption festered and thrived, and whose overthrow created catatonic euphoria among the masses of our people. Nkrumah was also Kongi, in Nobel Laureate, Soyinka’s “Kongi’s Harvest”, the arrant dictator whose lust for traditional authority misled him to perform unthinkable rituals and paid dearly for it.

In spite of Nkrumah’s evil deeds against Ghana, he left a bunch of militant followers who know how to criticize even Jesus Christ except Nkrumah himself. These lobotomes follow a toxic ideology in whose context Nkrumah does no wrong and never dies, and within which his ardent followers strain at the gnats of Nkrumah's perceived enemies and leave the log of wickedness on Nkrumah's eye-balls intact. But, in general, the Nkrumaist position is doomed ab initio: they must defend the misbehavior of an arrant tyrant and a blatant traitor...his imprisonment without trial, his declaration of one party state, his conferment of the power to overrule court judgments, his declaration of life presidency, his dismissal of judges....

Even for an attorney professionally trained to defend both sides of an argument, I pity the awkward and contradictory positions of the Nkrumaists. I really don't know of any leader that incarcerated both his foes and allies alike like Nkrumah, or went all out on a suicide mission to fatally doom his own presidency as Nkrumah did. And if any other leader today committed one percent of Nkrumah's evil deeds, his followers would be up in arms against that person. Remember how they profusely cite the injustices under Busia and Kufuor's regimes to cast them as non-democrats and to justify Nkrumah's cruelty to Ghanaians?

But their position regarding Nkrumah is understandable because they were indoctrinated to imbibe the propaganda that Nkrumah does no wrong, and that Nkrumah never dies. Fortunately for all of us, these people who are old and decrepit will soon die off with their shibboleth. But you and I, the younger generation, have a duty to dissect the truth, and let it guide our actions. We must confess that PDA was wrong, that life presidency was wrong, that dismissal of judges was wrong, that betraying friends who helped you was wrong, that indoctrinating children to snitch on their parents was wrong, that putting your effigy on a currency was wrong, that destooling chiefs and appropriating their titles was wrong.....If we don't do this, my greatest fear is that somebody else will find a "good excuse" to abolish our freedoms and hard-earned rights, citing Nkrumah as a glowing example. Remember that Rawlings has done it before; and that is why Kola has aptly stated how so similar J.J. is to Nkrumah.....

For them to be taken seriously, the Nkrumaists must confess all Nkrumah's evil deeds here and apologize to Ghanaians, or else make a fool of themselves by defending these dark deeds. In the end, that is how they can gain salvation. This is because the typical Ghanaian's crippled intellectual ability, gullibility and vulnerability and lack of creativity all descend from the Nkrumah's heritage which indoctrinated us in early childhood and made us receptacles to fakery and bad doctrines and took away from us the ability to ask questions and analyze incisively. So when the Ghanaian is deceived by the fake pastors and political leaders or shamans and witchdoctors and online scammers, the source of his child-like faith and acceptance of all imposture is traceable to his young pioneer days, when the end all and be all of his life is to subject his intellect to the worship of a conceptual idol, and to praise and serve him for life.

This is the time to free ourselves from the psychological shackles imposed on our minds by the great impostor, and to analyze and criticize and scrutinize these old assumptions which the great deceiver has implanted in our genes, making it impossible for us to decipher the good from the bad, the ugly and the evil.

But our hope is now widespread insofar as the notions perpetuated by Nkrumah have been effectively abolished. Nigeria has taken the lead in showing us the glowing beauty of the democratic dispensation, and Ghana is also an example in true freedom and justice. In the coming years, Africa's respect in the world will be quantified by how closely the continent follows the democratic footprints of Osagyefo Dr. J. B. Danquah, and how far it shuns the pernicious ideology of Nkrumah. And within the context of the new dispensation, anachronistic rants like that spewed here by these ardent Nkrumaists will surely find its way to the dung heap of history, to be cited as a true example of the morbid reasoning and incoherent ideation of the psychotic Nkrumaists.

And Nkrumaist followers, his agents, assigns, ideologues, praise singers, young pioneers and action troopers will be condemned to the darkest catacombs of political Erebus, from whence their ideological screeching will become akin to the whimpering of a dying dog.

And when all these come to pass, sensible men will find better pastime for their talents, instead of spewing what is evolving here to be a trash heap the size of Mount Everest.

Busia wants GOG [U.S.?] immediately or in January to rally American public opinion and persuade minority group to pass resolutions condemning trend in Ghana towards dictatorial government and increasing signs of willingness to accept USSR collaboration in economic and cultural fields. He believes US minority group opinion is only thing that can give GOG pause in this direction.

He also wants raise 25 (not ten) thousand dollars in US purchase vehicles and hire party workers to offset “dangerous indoctrination” being given people by CPP agents who have unlimited funds. He specifically wants warn people against danger of USSR whose Professor Potekhin (Embtel 1584 ) is he says not sparing word in CPP circles that USSR is only country genuinely desirous and able help Ghana.

Busia is intelligent and knowing. He would want our help to “condition” potential donors in US and also to transfer such funds to Ghana where he says they would appear to be proceeds of party fund raising efforts in Ghana.

I told Busia I could of course have nothing do with all this. He understood. He asked me see if Department could inspire some university invite him expense paid to US and I said I would explore possibility.5

If such is the case, then the assumption one can make from the preceding is that the likelihood or the chance/probability of you being a weed addict/smoker is about 90 out of a 100. Dr. K A Busia is not even listed as a notable alumnus of Oxford university. Dr. J B Danquah is of no significance to University College of London either. Dons at Oxford and UCL are all Nkrumahist, I presume?

He is always credited as the one who brought respect to the Negro race by advocating the AFRICAN PERSONALITY philosophy which, today some black fellows that he relentlessly fought to be recognised have the audacity to question his leadership abilities and intelligence. We still cannot think outside the box but we spend precious time digging into the past and pointing accusing fingers at people who have already played their part and are dead. I saw first hand some of the things that happened during Nkrumah's dictatorship and none of their verbose propagandist articles can change everything I know about those difficult years after independence. I was a third year student at Mfantsipim School when Nkrumah was overthrown. On different occasions I met Busia at "The School" and later Danquah in his house the day of his release from detention. If we refuse to be objective about our past we are more likely to repeat past mistakes but so let it be if that's what we want and think we deserve.
