Kwadwo,
I have read your article and share some of your sentiments. It is not that we were not prepared at independence. After all we were in no worse situation than India, Pakistan, Singapore or Malaysia. The only problem is that we had leaders with darkened, wicked brains at independence and we continue to have them today.
Just imagine Mahama borrowing more than all the governments of independence put together, and still running to the IMF to send American grad students to tutor us on economics!

Kko,your point is well noted but the lack of structural institutions are the bane of our demise. Thanks for reading the piece. As for intellectual property every nation at some point will lack them.

No, actually you are wrong!
It is the overpowering impunity and lack of credible judiciary - law enforcement and all - that create the mess. I can prove this to you.

YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE CORNED BEEF, FREE RUNING MILK, BUT YOU ARE NOT CAGED, SOLD AS AN ANIMAL TO THE BEST BIDER, MORALLY, EMOTIONALLY AND SEXUALLY ABUSED BY COLONIAL MASTERS WHO WOULD FIX THE GUN ON YOU AND WOULD TAKE YOUR ALL YOUR VALUABLES AND HERITAGE FREELY TO BENEFIT THEIIR OWN ECONOMIC INTEREST IN THEIR PARTS OF THE WORLD. SORRY BUT, BAFFOUR YOU DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF 'COLONIALISM' AS EXPERIENCED BY THE VICTIMS OF SUCH REGIME. YOU MAY TRY TO USE BOOK TO EXPLAIN BUT MY BROTHER IT IS NOT ANASE STORY.

What is the meaning of independence when we can't, for even a single day, manage anything at all, as human beings?

You would like to be called 'boy'. Some of you just think life is about food and drinks. Do you even understand the premise of colonialism? Colonialism means you are a lesser human being who is only fit for serving white folks. If we had colonialism, would you have the benefit of criticizing the system? Could you have had a forum called ghanaweb? Some of you are just stupid. Do some reading. The fact is Ghana is what is it is because we still a colonized country. Yes we have all the trappings of independence but economically we are colonized. The colonizers have become smarter. They have your own black brothers and sisters administering the colonies instead of their own people. Obroni also has his problems that is why he is always invading and stealing. We better wake up and seize a true independence.

The author attributes the quote "even colonialism was better than this" to a placard carried by striking Tanzanian students when Nyerere was president. Ignorant pundits are attacking him like typical Ghanaians do anytime they visit my house.

Don't be amused boy, that is Ghanaman's understanding of politics! 'Touch their political party or demi - god, touch their eye'. Their consciences are so blurred they no longer see reason. So very SAD.
